"One," Ahsoka held up her finger. "It's not a religion. But it's easy enough to feel like one, so you're not entirely wrong."
"Two," She held up a second finger. "You're 90% right about the rest of it. You know how the road to hell is paved with good intentions? That's what happened to the Order. It became blinded by arrogance and the Dark Side and a rigid ruleset that frowned upon those who might push the boundaries. But the alternate, at least the only alternate presented to them, was to become like the Sith, our old enemies. Murder and corruption, hatred and even genocide. And I can name at least three members of the Order off the top of my head who became lost in that darkness. Or close enough. And a couple of those were good friends. One of whom framed me and led to my leaving."
Krell, Barriss, Dooku, Anakin. "Sometimes I think she a was right."
"But it's possible to come back. There as a woman, we fought her many times. Eventually her own master betrayed her, and she disovered in herself some degree of goodness. I'd never say Asajj became good, but she became a lot more... grey."
Clasping her hands behind her back, she continued, "I've put a lot of thought into it. Both here and in the dreams. What went wrong. What could be done different. They were supposed to be peacekeepers, Anakin. They got turned into Generals and Commanders. And the longer the war raged, the easier it became for people behind the scenes to manipulate events into their favor. And all the while the Jedi were blind to it."
Ahsoka dropped her hand, "So when I realized how far the Order had fallen from it's principles, I knew I had to find a third way, and maybe some day, when the dust settled, help rebuild had been lost but applying the lessons learned. There's the Code, which you'll learn. There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force. There's an older version of the code that I discovered once. They don't teach it. But I like it a lot better. Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force."
