Who: Caroline and Marguerite What: Telling Marguerite what she is When: Tuesday, April 17 Where: Caroline’s house Warnings: Low Status: Log | Complete
Caroline wasn’t going to lie. She was terrified of telling Marguerite everything that happened to her. She was a vampire now. What if Marguerite was scared of her? Hell Caroline was kind of scared of herself. Apparently Lexi was also a vampire. And Tyler was like a hybrid or something. So she could live among humans and not be a threat. But still. It was a lot. She had no idea how Marguerite would react but she deserved to know.
Thanks to the sun Caroline couldn’t leave her house. She had to stay inside with all the blinds drawn. When she heard Marguerite ring the bell she yelled “Come in!” Unable to actually answer the door. And then she hid, in the darkest corner she could find until Marguerite was inside the house with the door shut and all sunlight gone.
Marguerite was worried. She knew what dream crossover could be. So when Tyler had let Caroline’s friends know about all that she wasn’t waking up? The worry had kicked in. Of course, then Caroline had posted and said she was awake and it was indeed dream related, coma from a car accident. Which should be the end of it. Only the actress had a feeling there was more to it. Specifically because Caroline had asked if she could come over because she needed to tell her something.
Still, the actress was quick to adapt and had been in the area long enough to not be phased by too much. Which meant she was still just concerned for her friend’s wellbeing. Ringing the bell, Marguerite quirked a brow at the yelling to come in. And the hiding in the shadows but she quickly closed the door.
“I’d ask if everything is alright, but it clearly isn’t.”
Once the door was shut banishing any traces of sunlight, Caroline stepped out to properly greet her friend. She wasn’t exactly sure how to go about this. But obviously Marguerite knew something was up.
“I seemed to have develop an allergy to sunlight,” Caroline offered giving a sheepish smile. It was a way to open up the conversation at least, without dropping the vampire bomb right away.
While Caroline wasn’t sure how to drop the vampire bomb right away, Marguerite had been in the area long enough to know that it was a definite possibility. Okay. There was also sun allergy which..was a thing. Rare, but real. But this was Orange County. The more ‘crazy’ the theory? The more likely.
“Like a vampire?"
She knew that Caroline’s dreams initially had just been typical high school things. But that didn’t mean much. Dreams often started off seemingly normal at first.
How did Marguerite know? Well she supposed it wasn’t a huge stretch given where they lived. But still. At least Marguerite didn’t seem terrified? That was a plus.
Caroline slowly nodded her head. “Yeah,” she confirmed her voice soft. “Exactly like that.”
“Well, better than a hipster from Brooklyn.” While Marguerite’s voice was light and flippant, she was concerned about her friend. She was mostly just trying to get a laugh out of Caroline. It was simply her way of showing that for the actress? Nothing had changed just because of Caroline’s new dietary restrictions.
“Are you okay? Or I guess as okay as you can be given the situation?”
While the comment didn’t make Carine laugh, she did crack a smile. Relief washing over her as she realized Marguerite wasn’t even the slightest bit scared of her. “You know I did spend some time in Brooklyn back when I lived in New York,” Caroline teased.
However the light heartedness was left behind as she answered Marguerite’s question. “I’m trying to be,” Caroline said honestly. “I have plenty of blood bags.” She didn’t tell Marguerite who supplied them though. That was for Tyler and Lexi to tell her if they so chose. Caroline wasn’t about to tell their secrets. Even if she was dying to tell Marguerite what Tyler had done after her mom’s funeral. “The staying inside all day is depressing. I’m not sure how long I can live like this.” The daylight jewelry Lexi had brought over didn’t work. Caroline was going to have to find another way. Somehow. But right now she was still just adjusting to it all. The emotions especially. “And my emotions are like on overdrive. Everything with my mom,” she paused fighting back tears. “It’s like I am living it all over again.” Granted she had never fully lived through it the first time thanks to Tyler.
Cracking a smile was still something, so Marguerite took it. But really, after everything that she had witnessed in Orange County? Turning into a vampire really wasn’t all that strange. It was the person and who they were that mattered and Marguerite knew Caroline.
“Well yes, you did.”
Who hadn’t? It really was dependent on what a person wanted to do when in New York.
“That’s good.” Nor would she ask, it wasn’t her place to know. There were people on the network who were open about being vampires and others who were not. All she knew was that Caroline at least had people who she could rely on with this, who knew what she was going through and could offer advice. That was the most important thing.
“I can only imagine. Hopefully something will come up that will allow you the ability to go outside.” She didn’t know if there were something the magic users of the area could do but it was maybe an option, “I know there are magic users here if you decide to ask.”
And then the comment about her mom’s death.
“I’m so sorry.” Because going through that once was hard enough. To go through it all again? Admittedly Marguerite didn’t know what Tyler had done (though she had worried about how easily it had seemed Caroline had moved on, even with the general mindset of continuing to live her life as her mom would have wanted). But given emotions in overdrive? That was bound to be rough.
“I’m not sure I trust anyone knowing what I am,” Caroline admitted. Marguerite excluded of course. And her other close friends that deserved to know. Hell some of them were apparently vampires themselves. It made her wonder who else from Mystic Falls was a vampire. But for the rest of Orange County? Even if it was full of strange occurrences. Used to them even. Knowing someone was a vampire was another story. She was a predator. Even if she had no intention on ever feeding from a human being. Blood bags were just fine with Caroline.
“Thanks,” Caroline said forcing a smile through her tear filled eyes. “It’s not your fault.” It was Tyler’s.
“That makes sense. Some people are more open about it, but only you will know who you can trust with such information.” So it wasn’t lost on Marguerite how much it meant that Caroline had told her what had really happened. But she also understood secret identities and work that couldn’t be shared. So feeling that people knowing about the vampire thing would not be good? It made sense.
“I know, but I remember that pain so for it to be heightened. Especially if you were pushing it down to do the whole getting by one day at a time.” Since that had been her read on the situation.
Marguerite’s explanation for how she figured Caroline was handling her grief made sense. Honestly, it might have been how things had gone if she had the option of choosing how she wanted to grieve. Instead of it just being compelled away only to return ten fold weeks later. But that wasn’t the point.
“It’s horrible,” Caroline admitted. Because if you couldn’t admit your pain to your friends who could you admit it to? It was true that Caroline always tried to see the good in every situation. But sometimes life just got to be too much. Even for her. “I really just want my mom.” Especially now with everything she was going through.
If Marguerite had known the truth? She’d be livid. While she could understand wanting to take someone’s pain away, there were some things that people just...had to deal with. To take that ability away in a misguided attempt to help? In the end it made things worse. Alas, Marguerite was unaware and could only go with what seemed most likely to her.
So for now, she could only offer her support.
“I know.”
What else could she really say?
Marguerite had already been there for her through so much. Through everything with her mom. And now she was taking this vampire thing so well. Better than Caroline had taken it that was for sure. She knew just how lucky she was to have a friend like Marguerite. “But hey,” she said attempting a smile and her usual look on the bright side attitude. “At least I have you.”
