Who: Klaus and Evie
What: Klaus has a little chat with Evie about dating his sister.
When: February 24th
Where: Pimpernel Outreach
Warnings: Just a threat of ripping Evie's heart out if she hurts Freya
Of course Niklaus Mikaelson was at the opening for the non-profit his sister was heavily involved with. The original hybrid could certainly be all about himself. But his family meant a great deal to him. He would always support them. Especially Freya. So here he was at the dinner and silent auction, currently making his way through the auction. He examined each item as he passed, even placed a bid on one of the artworks. It would be good to have for his gallery, and it was supporting his sister.
Klaus was headed towards another table when he spotted Freya’s girlfriend. At least that’s what he assumed the brunette was. He hadn’t asked Freya too many questions about it yet but he knew his sister had been spending a lot of time with the woman. Hell, she had even been to his gallery opening. “Evening,” he greeted Evie as he approached. “Find anything you like enough to place a bid?” He’d ease into the questions about his sister.
Evie wasn’t always one to dress up and attend functions like Klaus’ gallery opening or the non-profit fundraiser, but when it meant being seen out in public with Freya, she was more than happy to do it. That her money would be going to a good cause was secondary to that. She never was one that liked to dress up. She was perfectly happy with a t-shirt or tank top and jeans. But tonight she was wearing a nice blouse and dress slacks with heels. She wore two necklaces, one being the amulet of protection Freya had made for her, and the other had her dog tags on it.
She’d put down a couple bids on some items, though a couple of them had just been to start a bidding war to get more money for the non-profit in the end. Hearing a voice, she looked up, smiling at the taller man. “I’ve bid on a few things, yes. Though I admit a couple of them were to just start a bidding war. How about yourself?”
Evie also wasn’t stupid. She knew it was Klaus, she’d seen him in passing at his gallery opening. However, if he wished to start off with small talk, she’d go with it. Though she was waiting for him to start interrogating her about her relationship with Freya. It’s what any sibling would do, after all. She was suddenly grateful her own brother was in London right now.
“Clever,” Klaus admitted with a bit of a smirk. “I did,” he added answering her question. “A few of the paintings.” It didn’t matter if he won or not. He would compel the winner to give them to him anyway. And Freya’s cause would still get the money so it all worked out.
But that was enough of the small talk. Evie seemed willing enough to talk to him and Klaus was ready for some answers. And to possibly threaten her if she ever hurt his sister. “Did you come here with Freya?”
Evie wasn’t surprised that he’d put bids on a few of the paintings. Given his gallery, she figured that’s what he intended them for. And she knew better than to bid against him, though that was mostly because she wasn’t overly interested in having an art collection in her flat. She didn’t have the room. Besides, her notes for her less-than-sanctioned Assassin activities took up a lot of space. Thankfully they would remain secret given the ink used could only be seen by Assassin using their Eagle Vision ability.
And then right to the point he went. Evie wasn’t even phased by it, she’d expected it to come sooner or later. “I did, yes. Rather proudly, I might add.” She couldn’t help the smile on her face. She liked Freya. She liked her a lot. And she wasn’t going to let anyone scare her off or chase her away.
Just because she was smiling and ‘proud’ didn’t mean that Klaus trusted her. He wasn’t the most trusting person to begin with. Hell, he didn’t even completely trust his own siblings. Freya included. But he would do everything in his power to protect every last one of his siblings. Especially Freya.
“And what exactly are your intentions with my sister?” he questioned the protective little brother thing fully kicking into gear.
“My intentions are that I wish to be with her. I like her a lot, and I want to make her happy. And I’m not going to let anything come between her and I.” And she meant anything. Evie was a warrior, she wouldn’t hesitate to kill if need be. She never went anywhere unarmed either. She did have at least three throwing knives hidden on her body right now. One could never be too careful in Orange County, after all.
Klaus was taller than her, but she wasn’t flinching from him. She was looking him right in the eye. Though she was careful to not cross the line and seem like she was challenging him. She was merely standing her ground. Though she of course expected that should her brother ever visit, he’d be giving this same talk to Freya. Siblings had a way of doing that, didn’t they?
Niklaus was slightly impressed. And that was saying a lot. He wasn’t an easy man to impress. But Evie, she wasn’t wavering in her feelings for his sister. She was clear and confident about what she wanted. However, Klaus still had to do his brotherly duty.
“You break her heart,” Klaus began with a brief pause as his face changed. His eyes were now golden, red spider-like veins formed under them. “And I’ll tear yours out.” That was a threat he would make good on too. Then, just like that, his face returned to normal.
Alright, the way Klaus’ face changed was a little frightening, but Evie still didn’t flinch. She’d long learned to keep such things close to her chest. She doubted that the vervain she religiously took after Freya had told her about it would do anything to keep Klaus from tearing her heart out.
“I understand.” And she did. Evie would sooner tear her own heart out if she broke Freya’s heart, however. She knew what a broken heart felt like, and she never wanted to inflict that on anyone else. “Though I prefer Freya’s heart being whole and happy, so I do not foresee that being a problem.”
Evie’s words were all well and good. But it was a matter if she stuck to them. However, Klaus knew he couldn’t exactly make her prove it right now. It was something only time would tell. All he could do was warn her and keep a close eye for the time being. Like Evie, he did want his sister to be happy. As long as Evie was a source for her happiness Klaus would not stand in the way. But if that ever changed? He had every intention of making good on his threat and ripping Evie’s heart out.
“Well then,” Niklaus said with a devilish grin. “Let’s keep it that way.”
Actions most certainly spoke louder than words. Evie understood that, and all she could do was prove herself by not hurting Freya. She was only human, albeit with some advanced genetics in some respects, but she still made mistakes like everyone else. She would simply endeavor to never break Freya’s heart.
“Agreed. I prefer my heart where it is.” At least they’d gotten that out of the way. “Is there anything else you wish to know or warn me about?” Considering they were having this conversation, might as well get it off their chests now, right?
That was it. All Klaus cared about. Well at least when he came to his sister, was her happiness. He cared about other things of course, namely power. “That covers it,” Klaus replied with a grin. “Just don’t forget it.”
