It had been a week. Between Klaus transitioning, being pushed out a window, having to locate said brother, trying to be there for him with the related tension and then work stress? Well, when Finn had asked to meet up for drinks, Freya was all too happy to oblige. Undoubtedly there was something Dream related involved (alcohol, it was the Mikaelson way to deal with drama, especially from the dreams), but it was what it was. Freya would be there for Finn.
While also having a shot of peppered horilka. So between that particular unique item for the area and the fact that she had heard from Liv that the owner of this place was also a Dreamer so wouldn’t look askance if Dream talk came up? The Double Tap was the place to go.
For now though, Freya was skimming her email on her mobile while waiting for her brother to show up.
Finn’s life had not been quite as eventful as Freya’s recently as he had been busy with their mother’s various foundations. They were in the process of setting up an event for one of them and Finn had been overseeing the various planning of it.
Normally when it came to work, Finn gave it 110% and hardly ever found himself distracted by outside influences, however today had been a different story. Not only had The Dreams returned, but they had been quite troubling. He’d been forced to watch as his youngest brother, Henrik, died of injuries sustained by the same werewolves they had been living amongst and then, to insure that he wouldn’t lose anymore of his children, Mikael had forced Esther to make them immortal and in turn, had turned them into the very first vampires.
As a result of these dreams, Finn had been somewhat distracted throughout the next day and knew the only thing to help him would be helpful, in the long run, would be talking to Freya or Elijah. Freya’s name had been the first of his siblings’ when he’d opened his texts, so he asked her if she’d meet him the next evening for drinks.
Reaching the bar, he spotted his sister quite easily and made his way over to her, “Have you been waiting long?”
It was true that Freya tended to always be operating on a constant level of dealing with a number of crisis at any given moment. So for her, it was just another day that ended in ‘y’. Still, she also knew all too well how upsetting the Dreams could be. It really had been the first one that had thrown her. Being given to Dahlia and everything that had brought up for her. The Dreams since then? Sometimes she made comment on them and some were more stressful than the others, but she compartmentalized.
Mostly. Dahlia and isolation from her siblings notwithstanding given how closely tied they were to her life here and the lingering mental scars that came with that. Still. The Dreams could be quite distracting no matter how much one threw themselves into their work. And that was why there was alcohol.
Looking up as Finn came over, Freya turned off her phone and put it into her bag.
“Not terribly.” Motioning to the bartender to give her another shot, Freya turned her attention to Finn. “So, how are you, brother? Your text seemed rather… well, like you needed a stiff drink and to talk.”
Finn smiled and sat down across from his sister, “I’m alright. Possibly more than one.” He wasn’t exactly sure where to start, but he waited until they had ordered their drinks before saying anything. “How much do you know about what we went through in the new world?” He knew that it was probable that one of their other brothers had told her about the time before they were vampires, but he wanted to be sure before dumping anything too heavy on her.
Possibly more? Well that just added to her concern. While she didn’t know all the details of what happened while she was away from her siblings, she knew enough. And as she knew that Finn was now the only non-Mikaelson brother (at least on the network) who hadn’t turned into a vampire yet…. So when she got her shot poured, Freya turned her attention to Finn.
“I know the important things…. Dahlia was….rather upset,” understatement, “given her deal with mother.”
Finn took a sip of his drink once it was set in front of him. He needed to have a few sips before he started in on this topic. “Do you know what happened to Henrik?” Watching his youngest brother die was not something that had ever crossed his mind before, but now he couldn’t stop picturing it; especially when he closed his eyes.
The question was met with a nod as Freya took her new shot. Yes, this was a night for taking shots, at least for her at the moment. She may switch to something else later, but right now?
“I do. And what happens after.”
And it wasn’t the slightest bit strange to her anymore. Okay, part of that was because Elijah had already shown her the vampire abilities, Kol had talked to her about them and then of course Klaus transitioning. However, she had dreamt past that and of Dahlia learning and well… she had developed magical abilities here. So vampires? Not so strange.
“You’re lucky that you didn’t have to dream about it first hand,” He took another sip of his drink in order to try and clear away the image of his youngest brother after being mauled by werewolves, “Does Henrik know anything about the dreams?” The last thing he wanted was for his brother to dream about dying.
Freya had long since learned the art of keeping her thoughts off her face, so she managed not to scoff at the comment. She may not have been there to Dream about Henrick’s death first hand, but she was dealing with being Dahlia’s slave, of her unborn child’s death and Mathias’ murder. Lucky was definitely the wrong word. Even so, the blonde instead just motioned the bartender over, “Actually, just leave the bottle. Thanks.” And then turned her attention back to Finn.
“Not that I know of.”
Of course Finn didn’t know all of that because he hadn’t had any time to really ask Freya about her dreams. About what happened to her while she was with their aunt. So much had happened since he had come back and started dreaming that time had simply gotten away from him. One of these days it would occur to him to ask his sister for specifics.
“Good.” Finn finished off his drink and picked up the bottle that had been left and refilled it, “He shouldn’t have to dream about any of that.”
In all fairness, it wasn’t like it was Finn’s fault for not knowing what Freya was dealing with in her own Dreams. She was never the most forthcoming when it came to her own issues. Especially those that dealt with Dahlia. The only reason Elijah knew any of it was because of how thrown and unrattled she’d been when she had started Dreaming. Even Klaus knew references (a more evil Mother Gothel) and that was it given she had told him she survived since they had all thought her dead. Still, lucky was relative.
“None of you should have to dream what you’ve been dealt or the things that cross over.” Even if it seemed Klaus was rather content with his abilities which had transferred over. Freya wasn’t sure what to make of that. Elijah seemed to despise his though he made due. Kol never seemed to comment one way or the other on it and Freya was dealing with her magic. Pouring herself another shot, she contemplated her brother. “How are you holding up with what you’ve dreamt?”
Because it was hard to know if it was just Henrik’s death or more. Finn hadn’t asked what she had meant when she said she knew about the aftermath of that so she figured he’d gotten to that as well.
Finn downed his newly poured drink and set the glass on the table, contemplating having another one. Knowing what they became in the dreams, Finn definitely wasn’t looking forward to what was going to crossover. “I’m not sure I’m handling it very well,” He gestured towards his empty glass, “First Henrik’s death and then we become monsters.” Mikael hadn’t wanted to risk losing another child and of course he couldn’t stop at simply making them immortal, he needed them to be superior to werewolves as well and that had turned them into the first vampires.
Freya nodded some. That reaction wasn’t at all unexpected as she well knew how Elijah felt on the matter. Similar to Finn, about being monsters. Even Kol had seemed worried that she’d be afraid of him when he had told her he transitioned. Klaus seemed to be the only one fine with it.
“Not surprising. Unfortunately though, life doesn’t always work out the way we want it to and you have to find a way to deal with the curve balls thrown your way. Such as what happens in the Dreams.”
She debated not warning him but given the fact he had seen what had happened at their parents’ place, even if he didn’t understand….
“You should be prepared. There’s a good chance that it will crossover here as well.”
From what he’d seen on the net, Finn had expected that and he wasn’t sure how he was going to handle it if and when something did crossover, “I had a feeling that was the case.” He picked up the bottle and refilled his glass. Kol had been right when he’d said that the dreams would cause him to drink, “Has it crossed over for the others?” Until now he hadn’t actually thought about the fact that his brothers could possibly be vampires; they still seemed the same to him so he hadn’t looked for anything different about them. Considering what had happened at their parents’ house with Freya, he already knew something had crossed over for her.
“It has. Just last week for Klaus. Elijah and I managed to get him to come back a few days ago.” Seriously. It had been a week. But still, even though it wasn’t exactly Freya’s place to tell Finn secrets of the others, it wasn’t like they hid it if asked. Elijah might try because he hated it, but that also might have dealt with the fact that until she had dreamt of being taken, the prevailing theory was that she was dead and so there wasn’t much to warn her about. Only she had known he’d been hiding things from her and pressed him for answers. Nor did she exactly have answers for when to expect it or what to warn Finn about in regards to being a vampire.
“Then I suppose it’s only a matter of time for me,” Finn didn’t know what he was going to do if and when his vampirism crossed over, but at the same time he didn’t really have much to go on when it came to what to expect since they had only just been turned in his last dream. However, if they were anything like vampires he’d seen in movies or tv shows then he had a pretty good idea, “Part of me wishes I’d simply stayed in Paris, but then I’d still be missing everyone. It’s a double edged sword, isn’t it?”
That was life. Especially it seemed in Orange County with the Dreams. If you dreamt of being a vampire or witch or werewolf or whatever else got thrown at you, it was only a matter of time before that change would come. Still, she could only scoff some and shake her head some in vague amusement at the second comment. “That it is, brother, that it is.” And with that, she downed her latest shot.
