Rose was enjoying how seeing Match was becoming a more regular thing for her. Work seemed to be the biggest obstacle, but they always made sure to make time if too many days had passed. Today she had off and had spent most of the day at the beach. She had thought Match was at a modeling gig and ventured off on her own, intending to enjoy the hot weather that seemed to plague Southern California.
It seemed she wasn’t the only one who had the same idea, but she was able to find a spot where she and Match had actually gone to at the beginning of their relationship. She hunkered down, stripping down to her bathing suit and tying her hair up in a knot on her head. Last rays of the summer before it was all sweaters and scarves.
She flipped through the network as she sunbathed, smiling when she saw a familiar face pop on her screen. It was almost too easy to flirt with him and she grinned when he agreed to their game of hide and seek. She couldn’t be more tickled, thinking the hint she had given him would lead him to her home. She set her phone down and closed her eyes, waiting to get a new message for a new clue.
***
Match had been a little confused by her hint, so he had cheated. He had shot out up high, after dressing in a casual and form fitting suit. Once high over the area, he had trained his sight and hearing toward her tell-tale sounds. He now knew those intimately.
And within a short time, he had her spotted.
Seeing her on the beach, he smirked and shot downward, waiting until no one else was looking and landing right behind her.
“Now, that is a good look for you.”
***
He startled Rose so much that she sat up straight, lifting her sunglasses as she turned to look at him. “Bloody hell, how’d you find me so quick?” She still gave him a cheeky grin, only half upset that it had taken him so short of time to track her. “I really thought I’d bested ya with that hint! You’re just too good, ya know that?” She gave him a full grin, taking in the outfit he had on.
“A bit formal for the beach, yeah? Just come from a shoot?”
***
Match smirked. “I cheated.” he chuckled.
“Well, I thought I would take you somewhere special. Are you afraid of heights?” He extended his hand to her, his heart in his throat.
Of those currently in Orange County, very few knew his secret. He hoped he was not making a mistake telling Rose. But he cared for her a lot.
***
A bit puzzled by...well, everything he said, Rose still couldn’t help but trust him. She glanced at him, feeling a bit Aladdin-y as she looked from his hand to his face. “No…” She put her hand in his, allowing him to help her up. “Where were you thinking? Should I change into something a bit more...proper?” She started to pull her clothes on over the bathing suit again, wondering if her shorts and shirt would be good enough; she definitely wouldn’t be as nicely dressed as he was.
***
“Just the shirt and shorts will be fine. You won’t feel the cold.” he grinned at her and gently pulled her against him once she was dressed. “Hold on, dear one.” And just like that, with his strong arms around her, they rose into the sky.
Up, and up they went, until they were just a couple of hundred feet up, before he stopped, smiling softly, holding her close, his powers supporting her, making it feel like there was solid ground under her feet.
“I’m not like other boys.”
***
Before Rose could even grin and ask what was going on, they were suddenly rising in the air and she quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. “Blimey…” It came out as a whisper as she looked around her, the worry of falling never crossing her mind as she felt secure with Match there. A look of pure surprise and enjoyment was spread across her face as she looked around them and back at him.
“That’s quite an understatement mate!” She couldn’t help but laugh, daring to look down. “But...how?” As soon as she asked the question, she knew. She looked back at him, an eyebrow raised. “Dreams?”
***
“The dreams. In them, I have powers, and eventually, those powers crossed over.. I’m fast, strong, touch, and I can fly, among other things. I thought, if you don’t mind, that I would take you to a special place, for me.”
He smiled as they floated above the world, his eyes only on her.
***
She felt a twist in her stomach as he mentioned wanting to take her someplace special and she began to wish she had a better outfit on for it. Still, that was a minor enough fact, especially that he didn’t seem to care. “I’d love to. Go, I mean.” She grinned, tucking herself closer to him, sure he could feel how fast her heart was beating. Whether it was from the adrenaline of being so high up with him or just him, she couldn’t say.
Maybe it was a mixture of both.
***
He held her close and then they accelerated toward outer Orange, and the unincorporated part. Soaring over the cities, he smiled as he pointed out different things, and kissed her, lightly. “This is where I go to think, and just feel.” He grinned at her.
When they arrived, he landed them atop a two story building, an abandoned warehouse, one that sat atop a hill. From this vantage, they could see into a park area, one of the few in the area, and for some distance. In the other direction, they could look across orange County entire.
Waiting at the base of the building was a car, just in case. And atrop the building was a small enclosed area. Furnished with mismatched furniture, there was a sofa, a pair of chairs, a refrigerator, and a grill.
“Welcome to my Fortress of Solitude.” From the top of the building, no one could see them up there, but they could see out.
***
Flying through the sky was completely unreal and that was saying something with her recent dreams. It wasn’t as dizzying as she would have thought, no worry about falling, only the sheer excitement of zooming through the skies. She had to laugh, an experience she never would have thought she could have in real life. She looked at Match as he flew them towards their destination, happy that he could share something like this with her.
With her feet firmly on solid ground, she unwrapped herself from Match, walking to the side of the building to look out, the same smile still on her face. “Looks comfy,” she said, turning to share that grin with him. “Is this a secret club I’m apart of now?”
***
Match followed her and smiled, setting his hands on her waist, gentle touches. “In a way. No one else knows this is here.” He nodded to her. “I just wanted to share the place i sometimes go to think and rest.” He chuckled.
“It’s a home away from home.”
He gestured downward.
“The warehouse is an old smart house from the early 2000s, sold off when a dot com company went bust. I’ve been quietly fixing it up and updating it, making it quiet and comfortable. A place to go away from everything.”
***
Rose settled and leaned back into him, smiling as she heard she was her first guest to his secret place. “I dunno if I’d be able to find it myself, but thanks for sharing it with me.” She glanced over at him and smiled, one that was a bit goofy but completely genuine and completely for him.
“Why do you need to escape?” she asked, turning her head to look at him. “It’s a sort of home away from home?”
***
Match grinned. “If you give me your phone before we leave, I’ll program the coordinates in, so you gps can find it.” He nodded. He wanted her to feel comfortable about coming here. He held her close as he spoke and kissed her hair gently.
“I just want to breathe sometimes. Just let myself not people. I suffer from mild clinical anxiety, and sometimes people being around is just too much.”
***
Rose could understand that, wanting to breathe, wanting to get away from it all. She hadn’t known that Match had mild anxiety and could only imagine the need to have his own area for himself. She turned to look at him, her back now to the horizon they had been looking out of.
“But you’re alright if I want to come here?” She smiled up at him, touched that he would think her special enough to share this with her. She had began to wonder what they might be (or become), but his actions were starting to be loud and clear.
She stood on her toes, giving him a small kiss. “I love it. And I love that you’re sharing this with me.”
***
“I am. Yes. I want you in my life, in all of it. I love having you around.” He smiled warmly to her, feeling his rush of warmth and desire for her and bent his head to kiss her. “You make my life better, just by being in it.”
He nodded, finding that he was happy, and she made him smile. “I want to share everything with you.”
***
“I guess that makes us lucky ‘cause I rather love havin’ you around too. But I don’t have any special place to share with you like this.” Rose wasn’t the type to adventure out on her own and find places like this. She had always wanted that companionship she was beginning to find she had with the Doctor, but she wondered if she might be able to find it in Match as well.
“I’m learning all sorts about you today, but I don’t think I have anything that could match with you.”
***
“Rose, you don’t need any special things or any special places to show me. All I need is you. You made me happy. Just as you are.” He smiled softly, warmly, and he grinned at her.
“I just loved hearing you talk, hearing about your day, and your dreams. I don’t need anything else.”
***
He always had an uncanny way of making her blush and she looked down, grinning like an idiot at what he said. He only had such nice things to say about her, almost to the point where she didn’t know how to accept the compliments.
“Well, I just feel like I should give you something,” she said, looking back up at him. “But if my company is enough, then I guess I can only ask you for yours.” She grinned. “I’m happy to share this with you.” She leaned up again, giving him a longer kiss.
***
“All I need is you.” he kissed her back, groaning into it, and his hands stroking over her body, her incredible body. He stepped in very close, and shivered slightly. “We could watch the sunset from here, if you like?”
***
“Yeah, I think I’d like that a lot.” She smiled up at him, her arms moving to wrap around his waist as she looked up at him. “So long as you don’t keep me out too late. Early shift tomorrow morning.” She gave him a wink and another kiss, moving closer to him. Really, she didn’t care how late they were out, so long as they were together.
