Lara had given Bo a little over a day to recuperate without pressing about what had happened. She was, naturally, worried. That had obviously been a terrible injury, and it felt lately like they’d been walking on eggshells with each other. But faced with actually seeing Bo have to chi-suck someone (and a man at that, which Lara hadn’t realized she’d felt strongly about), Lara was forced to wrestle with a kind of jealousy she didn’t like.

One couldn’t fight Bo’s nature, but that didn’t mean she had to like it.

The funny thing was that the broken neck didn’t really phase her. Near-death experiences didn’t freak her out quite so much anymore. What did bother her was chi-sucking Logan. Yes, she and Lara had discussed the issue before, and in those situations, Lara preferred her being alive, but Bo still felt like she’d cheated on her or something of the sort. That was weighing on top of Kenzi leaving, and everything else that had happened lately.

Bo had a glass of wine in hand, probably her second of the day, and she had a chocolate bar that she took a bite out of as she settled on a chair at the island in the kitchen. Her drinking had picked back up in the last couple months, but she made certain to not have too many blindingly drunk nights. And she never drank when she was going to be working. But when Kenzi had left around the time of the Grimm? That had resulted in a blindingly drunk night. And she was contemplating one tonight.

But she’d have to make a run for more chocolate if she decided on that. She’d binged on most of their chocolate stash already.

The chocolate stash had dwindled to non-existence, which told Lara that Bo was seriously depressed. She only felt more guilty about that, so she dipped into an extra emergency stash she kept, and slipped into the kitchen, trying to ignore what was gnawing at her gut. “Hey.”

While Bo was a choco-holic under normal conditions, there were two times when she’d binge on it. One was if she hadn’t had enough chi in a while, she tended to try and use the sugar to help give her a jolt. The other was if she was depressed. Which she definitely currently was. So much had hit her in a short amount of time, and she almost was at the point of not wanting to get out of bed in the morning because of it.

“Hey,” she responded as Lara came in. She took another bite of the chocolate bar and sighed softly. She knew she needed to just get over some of this crap, but it was far easier said than done.

Lara sat down across from her, and slid a candy bar across the table. She didn’t speak immediately, observing Bo carefully. Her own mind was a swirl of emotions, and for just a moment she saw the damage that had been done to Bo, and not how Bo was now. She blinked and shook her head, then asked. “Do you want to talk about it?”

Looking at the candy bar that Lara slid across, her eyes lit up a little bit. “Thank you,” she said as she took the candy bar. Though she’d save it considering she was currently eating one. When the question came, the little lit faded under the weight of thinking about everything that had happened.

“I know we talked about this kind of situation before, but I still feel terrible about it.” Bo well knew she was a succubus, but she was still intensely loyal to her partner.

“I wish you wouldn’t feel bad about it. This is...it’s in your nature. I could never ask you to deny your nature, especially when your life is in danger.” Lara seemed to close in on herself, expression carefully remaining neutral. She was keeping her feelings to herself. Or trying to.

“Being in my nature or not, I still hate it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I’m alive, but I really don’t like taking chi from someone else. It makes me feel like I betrayed you.” And all of this over just kissing Logan. If Bo had gone as far as sex, she would feel a hell of a lot worse than she currently did. Bo took a drink of wine.

“At least it was just kissing,” Lara said, after a long moment’s silence. She rubbed her temple. “But you didn’t betray me.” It was clearly bothering her, but she was trying not to let it. She didn’t even know why it bothered her.

Bo looked at Lara for some moments. “You don’t seem to be okay, what’s wrong? Is it my chi-sucking Logan?” At this point, it could be a few different things, but Bo was willing to bet that it was the chi-sucking thing.

Lara’s throat bobbed and she shrugged her shoulders. “It shouldn’t bother me, but it does. I’ve just never been… jealous or territorial before.”

“I think that’s perfectly normal to feel jealous or territorial. If I was in your shoes, I’d probably feel the same way.” Bo was trying hard not to apologize despite feeling like she should. “Besides, it’s not like this has happened before.” That included a time when Bo had been really injured and trekked across the city to get to Lara to heal.

Lara couldn’t think of an instance where their positions would be swapped, barring something like her pursuing the Vampire Option. Which she was still considering. But even then, she wasn’t one to mack on anyone, let alone strangers. She hadn’t even been tempted by old feelings for Sam. So while she trusted Bo, it was hard to think from her side of the situation.

“I know. And I tell myself that. That’s why my feelings are baffling to me. It’s not even like I hate him or anything like that.”

There most likely would not be an instance where their positions were switched, but nevertheless, if Lara was the one who was a succubus, Bo would probably feel the same way. Bo did tend to be a walking contradiction, however. Her eyes were both brown and blue. She was virtuous yet lustful. She was monogamous while being a succubus. Bo was just thankful she didn’t have the plethora of people in this life continuously telling her she couldn’t be monogamous, that it wasn’t in her nature. She didn’t care what was in her nature or not. She loved Lara and didn’t want anyone else.

Even though sometimes her head turned, but that was just her nature and not something she could completely help. Bo had a hair trigger libido, and sometimes just looking at someone set it off. Other times seeing someone’s aura got her going. Especially if Aria came anywhere near the Nightcrawler when Logan was there.

“That’s jealousy for you. It doesn’t tend to make sense, but you feel it anyways.” Bo wasn’t immune to it, she had had her share of jealousy, even during her relationship with Lara.

“I’m sorry. I know I promised I wouldn’t be jealous.” Promises were important to her. Lara ran her hands through her hair. “Just.. if you’re dying, don’t worry about that, I’d rather feel like this than grieve for you.”

“Promise or not, you can’t control your emotions any more than I can control that I’m a succubus.” She took another bite of her candy bar. “With luck, this sort of thing won’t happen again. But knowing the trend of Orange County and my dream life, that’s not going to happen. I have a tendency to nearly die a lot.” She shrugged a shoulder a bit. “I’ll try not to worry about it, but that’s easier said than done.”

“We can’t be near each other 24/7,” Lara complained. “I wish we had some kind of teleportation device or transporter. Perhaps some kind of quick recall spell. Something to use in an emergency.”

“Sadly, this isn’t Star Trek, so teleporters are not a thing. Though the spell, maybe one of the magic users here has a spell like that?” Bo suggested. It’d make things so much easier if Lara didn’t have to deal with jealousy and Bo didn’t have to deal with guilt in these situations.

“It can’t hurt to ask?” Even if it was literally something that Bo could use to come to her quickly, it might be enough. There were many things Lara would do for her. She’d die for her - or sell her soul to live for her. But she didn’t say that last part out loud.

“I’ll ask and see what I get in response.” Bo didn’t know if it was possible to do, but she was more than willing to try. If it meant Lara didn’t have to deal with being jealous, she’d do it. Bo would do anything to make sure Lara was happy.

Lara nodded, then reached across the table to take Bo’s hands. “I’m sorry.” She worried she’d made things worse for Bo, confirming some of her fears. “But remember that I won’t be mad, or hate you, or anything of the sort.”

When Lara took her hands, she squeezed her hands back. “You don’t have anything to be sorry for, Lara. I will remember that, but it’ll take more work to not feel bad about it. I’m not as okay with what I am as my dream self is. Then again, she’s been a succubus since she hit puberty. I’ve been one for not quite two years.” It was crazy sometimes to think about how long she’d been in Orange County, and how long she’d known Lara.

“I can’t believe we’ve known each other that long.” Two years was both a long time, and the blink of an eye. Lara’s eyebrows rose. “...going from a date to marriage in two years is light speed, for me. You should be proud of yourself.”

When Lara made the comment about being proud of herself, Bo couldn’t help but to burst out laughing. It was the the kind of laughter that started with one mostly choked chuckle, then another and another before it just devolved into laughter. “Sorry, the proud of myself comment just tickled me,” she apologized after a few moments of laughter. “But I am proud of myself. Though I would have waited for you.”

Lara smiled fondly, a slight blush on her cheeks. “Even if I had been a lot more hard to get, I suspect your powers would have drawn me in eventually. A last little push for what I wanted.” And she had wanted Bo, in a way that still left her surprised.

“I have to say, it’s kind of hard to resist a succubus,” Bo responded with a smile. She squeezed Lara’s hands again, running her thumb over the wedding ring on Lara’s finger. “Though, what was it that you wanted?” She was mostly not seriously. She knew Lara wanted her, and she didn’t need to see her aura to know that. She could see it in her body language.

“Don’t make me say it,” Lara murmured, her eyes hooded and her expression actually coy.

“I could make you say it, but that would just be cheating,” Bo responded, stroking Lara’s fingers. Her emotional manipulation power was definitely something that she could use to make Lara say it if she wanted to.

“What I want…” Lara said, her voice dropping a full octave as she leaned forward and gave Bo the smokiest look she could manage. “Is a nice cup of tea.”

Lara’s voice dropping like that did things to Bo, as did that look her wife gave her. A little shiver ran through her, and she couldn’t help but to be aroused. Licking her lips a bit, Bo also leaned in so she was only a few inches away from Lara, and her own voice dropped a bit. “What kind of tea do you want?”

“I like it when you surprise me,” Lara replied, trailing a finger along Bo’s hand. “Except my favorite, I’d like to try something different…”

A little smirk crossed her face. “Feeling adventurous? I like it, and I always like surprising you.” Bo responded. She trailed her fingertips along Lara’s arm.

“Adventure does fine me. Why don’t we get that water boiling so I can remind you of exactly why you always come home to me.” Lara finished what she was saying with a heated kiss.
