Rogue was, as per usual, sitting behind the counter of a Taste of Home. A tall glass of sweet tea was sitting in front of her and a pile of papers on the other side. The case held pies galore and she was nibbling on one in an apple. She made a sound of annoyance and laid her head on the pile of papers. “I hate you all paperwork.” she muttered before lifting her head and taking another bite of baked apple. Things were slow today and there were only one or two others in the cafe.
***
“Poor paperwork” Will said with a grin as he placed a latte down on the counter in front of Rogue, “I’m not sure it deserves your hatred” he added, coming to lean against the counter next to her.
***
Eyes found the latte before her brain kicked in, fingers grasping for it long enough to take a long drink. Then her brain caught up with her and she grinned. “Well, it is paperwork and thus a major headache so yes, I think it does deserve my hatred.” Another long sip from the cup. “Mmm and thank you for this.” she held up the cup and grinned widely.
***
Will watched as she took a drink, amused by the similarity to himself before he had tea in the morning. “Anytime” he said, “If those are as good as they look you deserve far more than one coffee” he told her as he eyed up the apple pies, they looked even better in real life than they had on the internet.
***
Coffee was life. Caffeine, period. Because she was Rogue and a little smarty assy, she couldn't resist, “Don't tempt, you'll end up my designated coffee runner.”
She pushed herself to her feet and slid open the warming case and plucked out a baked apple. Still warm. She sat down and slid the plate over. “If it isn't warm enough let me know.”
***
“There are worse jobs” Will told her with a grin before rubbing his hands together eagerly and taking his first bite. “Oh my god that’s amazing” he said once he’d swallowed the apple-y goodness, “If I was single I’d ask you to marry me” he informed her before taking another bite.
***
She waggled a fork at him. “Good to know baked apples are worth a near marriage proposal.” She laughed as she leaned back and moved the papers. “Maybe I should hide the other baked goods to be safe.” Rogue teased, smirking a bit.
***
“Don’t tell her but this is better than any of my mum’s apple pies” he informed her, “So you may well be onto something in hiding them from me, I’ll be as big as a house in a few weeks” he winked at her. Though it wasn’t all a joke, he knew he’d be back for more. She had a talent for baking, there was no doubt.
***
“I'm a Southern girl, we can make some mean apple pies. If you've never had a pecan pie they're top notch too.” Rogue sipped her latte again before sighing happily. “There need to be more men like you around. Complimenting cooking delivering coffee.”
She tapped her fork on her plate lazily before smiling. “You ain't even tried the real food. Welcome to Taste of Home, comfort food is my thing.”
***
“I am a perfect specimen for cloning it’s true” he agreed, “Though my girlfriend might disagree, come to think of it my boyfriend wouldn’t agree either. They seem to think I have an overabundance of ego” he shook his head like it was a total mystery to him.
“Thanks, I’m looking forward to trying out more good food. You just got yourself a regular customer”
***
Rogue just laughed. “They ain't met me. I've got some ego issues myself.” She grinned a bit before moving to package up a pie and a box of the apples. She carefully sealed the box with a sticker bearing the cafe name.
“Good I like regulars. They make my day.” She set the boxes down and pulled out a handled paper bag. “Take those back to your partners, I'm shameless. Convert me more customers.” She teased, laughing. “Unless you eat them all yourself.”
***
“Then we’re going to get along just fine” Will assured her, he liked confident people. He knew some interpreted it as arrogance but to Will there was definitely a difference.
“You are a good woman, one of the best and I will definitely convert you some customers” Will promised, in fact he thought if Tessa enjoyed it as much as she did it could be a new place she got the treats for her staff from. “Though the temptation to eat them all before I get home is a real one” he added with a grin, pulling his wallet out of his pocket.
***
Rogue smirked a bit as she nodded. “I think we are indeed.” she laughed a bit before she sat back down and waved a hand at him. “Don’t worry about it, call it an incentive bonus” she teased smiling.
“I hope everyone likes them.” She finished off her coffee with a shrug of her shoulder. “I spoil people, it’s kind of my thing as well.” Green eyes glinted as she stabbed her fork into her apple and took another bite.
***
“You sure? I will be sure to take one to uni tomorrow and make sure everybody on campus knows about this place” he promised her with a nod of thanks.
“I am positive they will” he said, “Well I truly appreciate it, I am never going to complain about being spoiled” he told her as he too took another bite of the one she’d given him.
***
Rogue smiled a bit, wistfully. “I had friends a few years ago who I spoiled so much, I kind of miss it. So enjoy.” She gave him a nod.
“You're under no obligation to spread the word, I was teasing. But really just enjoy. I should finish this stuff up, employees like being paid on time after all.” She laughed a little. She'd never once missed paying her employees or anything but it was time consuming.
****
“Oh no, I am definitely spreading the word. You deserve it. I wasn’t kidding when I said this was better than my mum’s” he told her, “But for now I will leave you to your paperwork, just go easy on it. You’ll hurt it’s feelings if you keep saying you hate it” he grinned.
***
Rogue smirked a little bit. “Maybe it shouldn’t be such a pain in the ass then.” she mock glowered at the paperwork and smiled a bit at him. “Enjoy, feed the masses, then. Check back in a few weeks and I’ll have new things.” she waved at him with her fork before picking up her pen again.
