Who: Alecto & Gourry What: Fighting zombies When: During the Diablo plot Where: The general OC Warnings: Some suggestion and Alecto's mouth Status: Complete
Zombies were a serious problem. Apparently. Not that this really bothered Alecto. She could apparate and she was pretty great with a wand. Fucking shit up was her M.O. The only thing that kept her from immediately running into shit was checking to make sure the idiot she was dating was okay. Mostly because he might have been a little stupid about things, but she didn’t really like the idea of him getting hurt and anything that tried to hurt him was going to get murdered...even if murder was technically against the law. Zombies didn’t factor into this.
Given his habit of getting lost, Alecto had taken precautions to be able to find him, which meant using his phone to locate him. She was going to get him a pendant or something one day that had a tracking device so she’d be able to figure out where he was when he got lost and she needed to just apparate and find him. But for now, she was just going to use his phone. Mostly because she needed to actually find a spell that would work and make the spell work.
Apparating was always something since it sounded like gunfire going off. Still, she’d apparated a couple feet away, offering Gourry a quick smile. “Hey there, swordslinger.” Was that even a thing? She knew gunslinger was. Oh well. “Need any help?”
Gourry looked up, holding a large box in his arms. He was helping a nice little old lady into her house. “Sure, I’m helping Myrtle here move into her new apartment,” he chirped. What? Zombies and spooky things? Nah, he’s too busy helping sweet little old ladies first.
Naturally Gourry was out in the world helping little old ladies. Alecto stared at him for a moment, glad to find that she hadn’t given the old lady a heart attack in the process. Sometimes he confused her in that he just helped people for no reason. She was not really sure how one just walked right into helping people this often. Not to mention the fact that he was somehow not aware of things. “You do know there are like...zombies and shit everywhere, right?” Did he really not pay attention to the things going on around him? Because sometimes she had to wonder. “Fine fine. What’s left to move into the apartment?” Because she definitely still wanted to kill things that were already dead.
“Just a last few boxes,” Gourry began but was cut off by sweet, little old Myrtle. The nice old lady was your typical short, curly haired, large glasses type of old lady with a rickety cane and shaking limbs.
“Now, now, Gourry, dear, you’ve done quite enough for me! I can manage the rest on my own. You go with your,” she adjusted her glasses--hence the reason she didn’t notice Alecto poofing into existence--and squinted, “your nice little friend here.”
Alecto studied Myrtle for a moment. “We can finish the boxes. I don’t want your arms falling off or for you to fall over and not be able to get up again.” Since that was part of those commercials. I’ve fallen and I can’t get up again. How she got herself into this was not actually a surprise. Well, at least this situation. Gourry being Gourry just made her feel nicer toward the general population. She tried not to linger too long on the thought. “It’ll be like a couple minutes.”
And then she was going to find some zombies and fight them. She didn’t care what she had to do to get there, there were going to be dead zombies in her future. “But if you’re going to insist or whatever, let me do something to make it easier for you.” Also known as putting a spell on the boxes to make them light as a feather despite their being obviously very heavy.
Gourry nodded and headed in with the box he held. With Alecto’s help, it was done in just a couple minutes and little old Myrtle smiled, shakily holding up her purse. “Now, dear, let me--”
“No way,” Gourry gently pushed her hands down. “I told you this would be no charge, Myrtle. Now, you call your family and tell them to come over for dinner.”
“Oh, you’re such a sweetheart,” old Myrtle smiled, giggling girlishly like when she was young. Gourry beamed and reached over to take Alecto’s hand. “I’ll see you in a few days, Myrtle!”
“Take care, dear!” She called after before Gourry shut the door behind them. He looked to Alecto and beamed happily.
“What’s cookin’, good lookin’?” Oh, he is talented for sure.
Alecto decided not to say that he could have at least gotten himself a pie out of the whole ordeal. That was not the Gourry way of things apparently. She’d have tried for a pie at least. But then Myrtle might have accidentally set herself on fire. Merlin’s saggy left testicle, this was not the way to start thinking about things. Who cared if some random lady caught fire? Outside of Gourry, anyway. Okay, fine, she probably didn’t actually want the old lady to catch fire.
Somehow this was Gourry’s fault.
There was always that brief moment of surprise at the concept of holding hands. Alecto hadn’t gotten over the habit of staring at their hands, but she also didn’t pull away. Dating was weird and so was she. At least she was now that she was dating...again.
His smile earned a subtle eye roll in return and she tugged at his hand in order to lead him away from the apartment. “Zombies. There was a star that hit the OC, caused a big crater. Undead things have been crawling out ever since. I thought we could kill things together.” Okay, so really she’d just thought she’d check in on him and make sure he hadn’t somehow died, but murder dates were totally in, right? It wasn’t like they were murdering innocent people. These people were already dead.
“There’s also some fucking skeletons running around, which has been weird, let me tell you.”
“Skeletons and dead people?” Gourry looked reasonably surprised. “You know, I think I fought dead people in my dreams before.” He didn’t recall completely but that’s what his gut said. “Are people safe? Should we go help get people out of the crater’s area?”
There was a nod at the question. She didn’t fight dead people in her dreams. She just...made the occasional dead person and was generally crazy. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t fight dead people now. She had experience with zombies before, though. “I mean, probably not? There are things trying to kill people, so I’m saying no on the safe thing. I guess we could see about it. I guess that would be a win-win situation. We can feed your need to save people and still fuck shit up. But not for the innocent, alive people obviously.”
Gourry smiled, nodding. “Sure, can we stop by my place to get my sword first?”
Alecto grinned. “Yep! Can’t have you going into battle swordless. Lina would stab me and it would be messy and unfortunate. I mean, unless I lived, then I guess I’d have a pretty wicked scar.” She squeezed his hand. “Ready? Because you know this means apparating.”
Gourry nodded, sucking in a deep breath.
She focused then. Destination, determination, and deliberation. She knew where he lived, so it didn’t really take as much effort to apparate herself and him to his place. The sound of surprised barking let her know she was in the right place. Not to mention the cat dashing off. “Your cat probably hates me by now. We may never actually be friends.” Which she could probably deal with as long as the dogs still liked her. “But go get your sword. You’re definitely going to need it.”
Gourry laughed. “I don’t think she likes many people.” He headed down the hall into his room. A few minutes later, he’s back out with sword and sheath in hand. “Alright, know where we’re going?”
‘I’d say one day, but I’m not sure.” She looked at the sword in his hand before smiling mischievously at him. “I know where we’re going. It’s all over the news and everything.” She reached for his hand again, trying not to focus on how often all this hand-holding seemed to be happening. “Get ready.” No, she was definitely focusing on the the three D’s and apparating.
“Woah. Skeletons.”
She quickly pulled her wand out of her leg holster, grinning widely. “Looks like we’re on.”
Gourry shook the dizzy from his eyes and unsheathed his sword. Unsure which to use, regular blade or the light, he went with the former first. He gripped the hilt tight as he stepped forward, looking over the skeleton. DId they have weak spots? Eh, he could probably take out their knees and spine with a couple of cuts. Would that finish them off? He wasn’t really sure--who would have thought modern times brought him using a sword? Well, it must be a little easier with it than guns. With a shrug, Gourry took two steps toward a skeleton before he pushed off his heel, dashing forward. He tilted his sword and aimed for three hits--one to each knee and then lastly the spine. He stopped a few feet behind the skeleton and brought his sword down, looking over his shoulder as the skeleton dropped to the ground.
Alecto was really going to have to keep that image in her mind for later. She was also probably going to have to be careful not to get distracted by him and his swordsmanship while fighting. Either way, when they were done being somewhat good citizens, she was totally going to try to get him naked. For now,she was going to fire an offencive spell or two at the skeletons rushing toward them. She even managed a shield charm, cackling as they ran into it and were thrown back. Yep, she was having fun with this.
Gourry looked back at Alecto, smiling as he watched her use her magic. She definitely was capable, but he was still ever worried--just him being him. He stepped back and brought his sword up to clank against another skeleton, kicking out against the enemy’s legs and bringing his blade up across the ribs and out to the shoulder.
“I have to tell you. The sword really does it for me.” She wasn’t sure he’d get that, though. It was hit or miss with him. More miss than hit, though. There was something else, though. Amidst the skeletons. Something a little fleshier. “Looks like we’re getting more than skeletons up here.” She blasted one of the creatures back out of the way. “I can part the zombie sea if you want to see if anyone needs help getting safe.”
Gourry nodded, taking a stance as he looked between what he could of the skeletons. “Yeah, that sounds great.”
The thing about spells was that Alecto had to consider what would be powerful enough and what would not accidentally kill a lot of innocent people at the same time. Expulso was a good choice to explode shit out of the way, but it was probably going to hurt people, so Alecto stuck with Confringo. Both were curses, both used during battle. She distinctly remembered a Death Eater or two using the former. Orange, fire-looking light shot out of her wand as she used the spell. She put as much power into it as she could.
Gourry waited until the blast was through and charged into the new path. He quickly scanned the area the best he could, you know, aside from all the weird dead things that just decided to show up. He listened, he smelled… He turned back to Alecto. “I don’t think anyone’s here! Maybe they all got away.”
Alecto looked around and shrugged. “Civilians do seem to avoid any real impact. OR...maybe someone already got here?” She wasn’t really sure. “You want to see if we can find anyone still or stay and fight?” A pause. “We could also just apparate back to somewhere and pretend this isn’t happening. That doesn’t really sound like us, though.” Mostly because fighting things she was allowed to fight was a thing these days. She didn’t hurt people who didn’t deserve to get hurt and she really only fatally wounded dangerous ‘will totally eat you alive’ things. They sort of had it coming.
Gourry shook his head. “Let’s look around a little more. Stay close,” he called out protectively.
Alecto had so many things to say at that moment. None of which would be understood by him. She sighed before moving closer to him. “I can still take care of myself, Swordslinger.” She glanced at him, throwing a few blasting curses. “But I guess it’s cute that you worry. But you tell anyone I said that and we’re…” She paused. “No. Not that. I’m just going to cover you in boils. Probably not forever, though.”
Gourry laughed. “I know you can, I saw what you can do. But I’ll still worry about you,” he patted her head gently before moving on.
Her nose scrunched up slightly. “You’re lucky I like you.” Because she had really considered hexing him, but that would defeat the purpose of things. Also she didn’t want to get murdered or have him murdered. Who knew what these zombie things would do? Well, maybe that girl that apologised for them. But she didn’t know her all that well. That in mind, she went back to blasting zombies apart. “I’ll be fine. I’m excellent at this thing. I mean, maybe I can’t do cool superhero things, but…” She shrugged. “We’ll just have to agree to look out for each other, I guess.”
“That’s the plan,” Gourry winked at her before hacking at a sudden zombie that showed up.
Killing zombies probably should not have made someone more attractive to her. And yet here she was. “When we decide we’ve had enough zombie killing, I vote we eat dinner in someone’s bed. Possibly naked. It’s optional, but…” She shrugged. “There could be a shower somewhere in there to wash off the dead people guts. For good measure.” But she was pretty sure that they’d have to let the dogs go outside to pee and poop at some point. Also feeding them and the cat was probably important...and she’d have to feed Napkin. They could figure it out as they went.
“Eating in bed, naked? Sounds like my night,” he grinned toothily at Alecto. He jogged over to her, taking her hand again. “Let’s keep lookin’, yeah?”
Alecto’s smile was one of the few genuine smiles she gave to people. Even if this whole hand-holding thing was getting out of hand (not that she was going to put a stop to it). “Yeah. We can do that. I still have a lot of spells to try anyway.”
