With all the crazy shit that had been going on the past few weeks; the strange storms then the Star Wars weirdness, Justin hadn’t really gotten much of a chance to spend any time surfing. He had thought about going the weekend after the wind and rain storms, but instead had gone to Royston and Max to Skyhold to watch them blow stuff up. He had been to Skyhold before, but seeing it again just reminded him or how crazy the dreams were sometimes when they could drop entire medieval castles into existence.
After that, he had decided that the next weekend that it was nice out, he was going to go surfing, no exceptions. So when he’d woken up to a particularly nice Saturday morning, he’d sent Royston a text, asking him if he’d want to meet him at the beach, because he still needed to show off his skills to his boyfriend, then had headed out to the beach after telling him which one he’d be at.
Justin had gotten there first and decided to hit the waves while he waited. After making sure his board was ready, he’d strapped the cord to his ankle then headed out.
Royston had enjoyed the chance to blow things up. Especially the kitschy things that his sister-in-law had gotten him. He’d explain it away if he had to, but considering they never came to visit, that might get difficult. But, he’d be by to take presents to the children eventually. He considered taking Justin with him the next time. The children, at least, wouldn’t be troublesome. His brother would just get red in the face and find something to do while mostly ignoring what was happening. He could hope that his sister-in-law would keep her mouth shut. If not, he’d have to leave the room or he’d probably split their table in half...again.
But for now, he was content to watch his boyfriend surf. He’d arrived just in time to see him go out into the water. The view wasn’t half bad. But then the beach had always been ideal for people watching. Especially when one was attempting to watch attractive people. Swimming clothes didn’t cover a lot - which was unfortunate at times, but rather wonderful at others. He might have to see it a little closer to say for sure, but Royston was certain it was a wonderful view. He didn’t make a big show about arriving, taking his time to settle onto the beach so he could watch.
Most of the time Justin wore a wetsuit of some kind when he was surfing, but today he had opted for a pair of wetsuit shorts because he had also wanted to chance to try and get a little sun, because he was currently quite pale and the shorts accentuated his bubble butt even more.
Once out on the water, he lost track of exactly how long he spent out there and didn’t notice Royston arriving. It wasn’t until a wave he’d been riding died out sooner than he’d expected that he noticed his boyfriend sitting near his things. Smiling, he picked up his board and headed over to the older man, “Hey. Have you been here long? I think I lost track of time once I got out there.”
“Hello,” he replied with a smile, shielding his eyes as he looked up. Sunglasses only helped so much in these situations. He still found himself squinting a little. “I haven’t been here too long. But you don’t have to worry. I was enjoying watching you from here.” He pushed up from the ground, stealing a quick kiss. “Really, I probably could have watched for a bit longer. But then again, I could probably watch you do just about anything.” His smile turned into more of a smirk at that.
“I’m afraid I would be quite clumsy on a surfboard myself, which would likely be embarrassing.” He paused for a brief moment before saying, “But should you have some desire to teach me, I suppose I could put my pride and vanity to the side for a little while for your sake. Who knows? Maybe I’ll land a role one day as an ex-pro surfer and it will have helped somehow.” Unlikely as it was, Royston didn’t really say ‘never’ about roles. He’d played some interesting characters in his life.
Justin smiled and kissed Royston back then set his board down on the sand and sat down, sand sticking to his still wet swim and shorts, “I could try and teach you sometime, if you really wanted. You’d have to be fully prepared to likely ingest large amounts of seawater though.” He smirked over at his boyfriend, “I must have swallowed so much water when I was learning. Even now it happens if I get knocked off.” Justin wasn’t going to pretend that he was a professional or anything like that. He had just been doing it since High School and had a talent for it. “And then when reporters ask you where you learned to surf, you could tell them that you're extremely sexy boyfriend taught you.” He was still smiling as he said it.
“Just my luck. I love seawater.” It wasn’t necessarily true. Certainly he didn’t like to swallow it. For one, it was salty. For two...well, it probably wasn’t anything he really wanted to put in his mouth. But he could survive. Plus, he encouraged situations in which they would have to spend more time together. He sat down next to Justin, leaning back on his arms. “Is that what I'm going to tell them?” He glanced to the side, the amusement obvious in his expression. “Well, I suppose I could tell them that. Maybe this can start your side job as a surfing instructor. As long as I am your most important student, that should be fine. Naturally I must always be the most important.” Just a little bit of teasing.
“Well there’s plenty of it out there,” Justin gestured towards the ocean, smirking. He knew that Royston was only joking; because who in their right mind actually like ingesting seawater? It was disgusting and even after all this time Justin still hadn’t gotten used to the taste of it. “It is what you should tell them. So, you wouldn’t get jealous of everyone oggling me in my wetsuit?” Not that it would be all that different than people who probably checked him out on the beach when he was surfing. “And you’re so important that you’d get special after class instructions.” Justin waggled his eyebrows a little.
Royston arched an eyebrow. “Well, I might have to fight a few of them off if they got any funny ideas.” And...all right, he was not immune to jealousy, but he knew that Justin was with him, so he would be fine. “Just don’t get any funny ideas in return and we should be fine. I can’t have my extremely sexy boyfriend running off with some stranger that happened to oggle him. Especially when he’s going to have to go to premieres and everything with me where plenty of people will be oggling him...even if he’s not in a wetsuit. No to mention the awards shows.” A smile formed at his next words. “Special after class instructions, huh? I think I might need a demonstration later so I know exactly what that means.”
Justin shook his head, smiling, “Don’t worry, the only funny ideas I get are about you,” He leaned over and pressed a kiss to Royston’s lips. It didn’t even occur to him, as he did it, that it was possible that paparazzi could have followed Royston to the beach. They hadn’t encountered too many photographers lately, so he figured that they were doing a pretty good job of staying under the radar. “I get to go to awards shows? My mom will love that.”
He chuckled and nodded, “I think I can give you a demonstration later tonight, if you’d like.”
“Good. Because I would probably be very jealous if you started to get ideas about other-” The kiss cut him off, but he was okay with that. He was actually okay with being exactly where he was. He probably wouldn’t have been too bothered by the paparazzi, but he hoped to avoid them. At least for the moment. “If you want to. I’d like you to come with me.”
There was a smirk. “Yes. I would definitely like that.”
“Then next time a premier is coming up, let me know. I’ll get a really nice suit so that I look good next to you,” Justin had worked on TV shows and movies before and knew quite a lot of people in the industry, but he had never been to a movie premier before. “Well then I think you’ll be very happy tonight.”
“I’ll make sure to give you plenty of notice. That way if it needs any tailoring, you’ll have time to look flawless. Which is pretty easy for you, I’d wager.” Part of him wanted to take him to a tailor he knew and get his measurements and have something made specifically for him, but he wasn’t sure if he should. After a moment of pause, he decided to chance it. “Or I could just take you to a man I know and get you something special made.” Because...well, he thought one’s first premier was important enough to warrant something that would cause people to stop and stare. He could handle a little staring and he wouldn’t mind any possible ripples of jealousy in the crowd. Perhaps he was terrible at keeping a low profile. “I have no doubt that I will be.”
Justin’s smile widened, “I’ve never had a suit made just for me. I’d like that.” He leaned over and pressed another kiss to Royston’s lips. “Thank you.” The idea of not only going to a movie premier, but also in a custom suit, with Royston, made him all the more excited for whenever the next premier was. “Everyone is gonna be even more jealous of us now.”
There was a light laugh. “Well, I do like to make others jealous. Especially of me. But making them jealous of you is just an entertaining bonus.” He pulled him in for another kiss, languid and lazy, letting it go on until he absolutely needed to take a breath. “I’m sure you’ll have even more enemies before the night is over. That or we’ll be the characters of some truly concerning fanfiction. I promise you that the things my characters have done get very interesting in these things. I don’t think I’m technically supposed to sit around reading them or looking at the fanart, but sometimes you need a good laugh or to question your existence in the world.”
After a moment, he stood up, holding his hand out to Justin. “Come on. We’re going into the water and after I’ve amused myself with dunking you, maybe you can give me a few pointers on surfing.”
