Simon glanced down at his phone as he walked down the street, watching as his Pokemon trainer also walked down the street, towards the next Pokestop. Yes, Simon still played Pokemon Go and now that gen two pokemon had been released, he had started playing even more; with the exception of the week they had spent in Mauritius for Valentine’s. He’d wanted to spend that time with his complete attention on Isabelle and their friends, but now that he was back, when he wasn’t practicing with the band or with Izzy or their friends, he was playing Pokemon Go.
Stopping once he reached the Pokestop, he proceeded to spin and collect the items it gave him before he started walking down the street again, towards the next one.
Alecto wasn't really a Pokemon Go sort of girl, but she did play a few games where she got to fight people. Today, however, was mostly an aimlessly wandering sort of day. She felt out of sorts and not so much herself (or maybe more like herself than she'd felt in a while, but her before self). There was a little whiplash involved in being asked to move in and agreeing to it and then suddenly not being together. She had tried to shove everything down, but apparently it was harder to ignore this.
So she’d taken to wandering and taking pictures of things that seemed interesting. Just in case her staying in Hawke and Isabela’s place got less open for some reason (like her being an evil dream witch), she figured she should get used to photographing things other than dead bodies and crime scenes. Turning the corner, she looked up to see Simon coming toward her and put on her best amused expression. She didn't know what he was doing on his phone, but she still wanted to surprise him. “Say cheese,” she said, waiting a moment for him to look up before snapping a picture. She hoped she'd gotten a good expression.
The last thing Simon had been expecting was to find a camera in his face, so when he looked up at the sound of someone telling him to ‘say cheese’ he looked up, a slightly surprised look on his face before he recognized the person behind the camera, “Now what if I were the type of vampire that didn’t show up on camera?” It was strange, that there were so many different kinds of vampire lore. Unlike some vampires, Simon not only had a reflection, but he also showed up on camera, which was good for the band and he had a shadow. And unlike other vampires, he was able to be out in the sun, but that was due to Jace’s blood specifically and less to do with vampire lore from his dreams.
Alecto grinned. She hadn't really considered the whole no reflection thing because she didn't know if those were actually true sorts of rumours. She turned the camera around to show him the picture before holding it close to her. She was keeping that one. “Then I would have told people I was photographing ghosts. Or not. Probably I'd just have deleted it. Or printed it out and put a generic vampire sticker on the front. Hard to say.”
“Ya know, I wonder, if I were a no reflection, doesn’t show up on camera vampire, would it just look like a hovering iphone in your picture?” Simon pocketed his phone as he took a look at the picture Alecto had taken of him, “Cause that would help you out if you went the ghost route.”
Alecto chuckled a little. “Well, I’ve been looking for a good excuse to prove ghosts exist even with faked methods. It’s not like anyone could scientifically explain that away.” She studied Simon for a moment before making an attempt to peek at his phone and see what he was playing. “So what’s an aspiring ghost doing outside wandering around alone? Is there a grindr for vampires? You just use it to find food? Like people that will let you feed on them? You could probably get tons of money. Vampires pay you to get to drink your blood. There’s got to be - what? - five hundred of you lurking around the OC, right? Lucrative business idea right there.”
“No. No, vampire grindr, but wouldn’t that be for gay vampires?” Simon didn’t know too much about dating apps, but he knew that much, “And, I’ve still got the synthetic blood. I don’t feed from people.” He took his phone back out, figuring it would seen less sketchy if he just showed her what he’d been doing.
Typing in his passcode, he pressed the icon for PokemonGo and held it up, “I was just out here being a complete nerd.”
Alecto looked like she was considering something before shrugging. “I mean, it’s mostly the idea. Maybe you just need to nibble on a dude from time to time. Who am I to judge?” She didn’t really care too much about the whole vampire thing, but she was also curious about difference between the vampires she knew about and the kinds other people dreamt of. That was the important thing. “Synthetic blood? That sounds so...sad. Is this like a True Blood thing?”
But when he showed her what he was actually doing, she looked up at him and shook her head. “You’re absolutely a nerd. You’re still playing this thing? Like no one talks about it anymore. I thought it was just one of those fad things and it had died by now.”
Simon laughed and shook his head, “I think I’m good. Guy or girl, I’d only bite someone if it was a last resort.” Izzy was the only person he’d bitten in the waking world and that had only been when he’d just turned. “And it is Tru Blood actually. How do you know about that?” He quirked a brow at Alecto, curious as to how she knew about Tru Blood.
“And they just released Gen two, so there’s been a resurgence of activity.” Simon said, putting his phone back into his pocket.
Alecto shrugged. “All right.” She couldn’t imagine being a vampire and not feeding off people, but she guessed that got messier than was strictly necessary. She didn’t know much about what it meant to be a vampire and she wasn’t really too worried about it either. She wasn’t going to be a vampire, so she didn’t actually have to worry about it. “I got bored one day and watched some stuff.” She shrugged slightly. “Basically vampire porn, though. Vampire porn with some plot thrown in.”
Gen two. She had no idea what that meant. She guessed it had something to do with pokemon that weren’t originally released. “Huh. Sounds weird. I mean, I guess that’s exciting. Is it exciting?”
Simon didn’t know exactly what Alecto was talking about, but it sounded like Tru Blood had something to do with TV and now he was curious. He’d have to google it later and see what he found, “There used to be a woman here who was a vampire in her dreams and she got cases of the stuff. I tried it once; it worked for me, so when she left town, she left it all to me. Makes it easier than trying to get blood bags.” Izzy had gotten him the blood bags before Pam left him the Tru Blood and he still hadn’t asked her how she got it.
“Yeah, it’s exciting. I mean, until the only Pokemon showing up are ones that you have.” He knew he sounded like a nerd, but he couldn’t help it. That was part of who he was and he couldn’t stop that.
“Huh. Sounds weird.” There was a slight shrug. “But I guess that’s one of those things. Vampire shenanigans.” She shrugged. “So what do you do when that runs out? Should I start conning people into donating blood to the cause? Ohhh. No. I could just make re-filling bottles!” She lit up at the idea. “I haven’t actually practiced that spell a lot, but I could try!” Yeah, she was going to need to practice more, but she was pretty sure she could manage it.
Alecto, for all she was, was not so much a nerd and Pokemon had never really grabbed her interest. So she didn’t get it. But she reached over to lightly pat his shoulder. “I’m just going to take your word for it while nodding and attempting a genuine smile.” Because that’s what...acquaintances (or whatever they were) were for.
Simon’s brows rose slightly, “You think you could put a spell on them to refill? Maybe we could attempt it on one bottle first.” Now that would be helpful. Sure, he had plenty of bottles at the moment that he wasn’t going to run out anytime soon, but it would be nice to have a fall back. “Don’t worry, my girlfriend acts pretty much the same way when it comes to Pokemon Go. I’m lucky that she loves me enough to tolerate me when I’m playing.”
“Yeah. Probably.” She hadn’t tried it...especially not on bottles of blood, but hey! What could it hurt? She was pretty sure it’d go over just fine. If not? Well, it didn’t actually hurt anyone. It just didn’t work. “It’s worth a try, right?” Her smile faltered for a brief moment before she forced her expression to something more aligned with the easy-breezey sort of vibe she was going for. She knew it was stupid to react to other people in relationships, but she was still trying to avoid thinking about breaking up with Remus, which had come almost immediately after him asking her to move in. Nothing made sense about it, but she was sure it was something to do with her. This version of her wasn’t good enough to make up for the dream version of herself. He hadn’t said as much, but she felt like that was the case. “That’s pretty lucky, yeah. It’s nice to have someone like that, I guess? I don’t know.” She shrugged slightly.
“I’ll have to give you an empty bottle then, to practice on.” Next time he had an empty he’d have to put it aside to give to her at some point. Simon noticed the way her smile faltered, but he had no idea exactly what it was about and considering they had only just met in person he wasn’t going to pry, “I just try not to play it too much when we’re hanging out. She already knows I’m a nerd, but I don’t want her to start rethinking our relationship.” Not that he thought Izzy would actually do that, but that didn’t mean the thought didn’t cross his mind on occasion.
“I’ll fill it with something. It works better when there’s something in it. But we can practice with water first.” It would actually probably be easier with water anyway. Or juice. Really something that wasn’t blood and wouldn’t be too gross if she did something wrong and accidentally exploded the bottle. She was not sure she wanted to be covered in blood. At least not when it could be avoided. “That’s probably the best way to go about it.” She shrugged again. “I mean, if she knows you’re a nerd and she’s still there, you’re probably okay. But who knows. She could be plotting your death. Or the death of your Pokemon. But probably not really.” She paused for a moment before turning so they were walking the same way. “So I don’t know how this vampire thing works, but I need coffee, so if you want coffee or can actually still take in human...stuff...I’ll pay for a coffee for you, but if not, we’re still walking in a direction where there’s coffee because I’m bored and you just accidentally walked into my tangled web of ‘people that have to talk to me when I’m bored’. You should be able to hear the pained screams from here.”
“Next time I have an empty bottle I’ll wash it out and bring it to you then,” Simon started walking as Alecto did then nodded in response to her question, “I can. Now.” Being a vampire, Simon couldn’t actually process regular food anymore, but he had been able to train his stomach so that he could drink coffee on occasion, mostly so that when he went to visit Izzy at Baxter’s, he wasn’t just sitting there doing nothing. “So, coffee sounds good. Thanks. And don’t worry, I also have that problem. I’ve been told that I can talk too much on occasion.” He smirked as they continued walking down the street.
“Good.” Alecto smiled a little. “I don’t talk a lot so much as I just pester people. But you’re free to ramble on about whatever. I need the distraction anyway.”
