If anyone was well aware that Valentine’s Day was approaching, it was Felix. Fe’s Party Planning was busy with the various Valentine’s Day parties they had been hired to plan, as well as an Anti-Valentine’s Day party or two. Amidst the planning, Felix was also busy planning his and Josh’s Valentine’s Day. Not only was it their first Valentine’s Day as an official couple, but they were also celebrating the fact that Hades had worked his magic on Josh’s face, making it whole again. Felix didn’t like to think of it as Hades having fixed Josh’s face, because as far as he was concerned, there’d been nothing to fix, but he knew how much Josh had wanted his face to be whole again so he’s supported his boyfriend 100%.
The previous Valentine’s Day, Felix had brought Josh to one of the parties he’d planned and had been in charge of monitoring, but they hadn’t been officially dating then. They hadn’t made it official until the following month, so this year Felix was planning a little getaway for the two of them. His plan, while they were away, included asking Josh to move into his and Sarah’s apartment, but in order to do that, he still had to ask Sarah. He knew that both his sister and niece adored Josh, but Sarah also knew about Josh’s dreams and might have some concerns, so this was something they would need to discuss.
On the night he’d finally decided to bring it up, he’d made sure that Sarah was going to be home then had told her that he would bring home dinner.
Valentine’s Day had never really been a big thing for Sarah before, even last year it had only been around that time that Sarah and John had officially started dating so they hadn’t done anything for it. She had a feeling this year would be different and she couldn’t say she minded.
Sarah got on well with Josh, he was a little quiet but he was good for Fe and he was a very sweet guy. His dreams were a little concerning and she did worry about him and her brother but she tried not to interfere beyond making sure they were doing okay. Fe knew she would always be there for him, or at least she hoped he did.
It wasn’t unusual for Fe to bring home dinner but she knew him well enough to know something was on his mind so she’d put the kettle on and grabbed cutlery around the time he’d said to expect him.
Felix had decided on Chinese food tonight so as he stepped into the apartment, he carried a rather large bag, considering they liked just about everything the restaurant nearby had to offer. Of course most of it would end up being leftovers, but it would definitely get eaten within the next day or so, “I hope you’re hungry, Sarah.” He dropped the bag on the counter and shrugged out of his leather jacket, which he hung on the back of one of the kitchen chairs, “Where’s the monkey tonight?”
“I am now, that smells so good” Sarah said, moving to the kitchen to pull out the chopsticks. She’d start with them but get frustrated and end up using a fork but she put in the effort to try. “Kira’s at a friends they’re working on a project, she’ll be back before bedtime” Sarah was glad Kira had made some really good friends. She even had sleepovers now which had freaked Sarah out the first time but her daughter had loved. Sarah had to keep reminding herself this wasn’t like her dreams, there weren’t people waiting in the dark to kidnap Kira.
Felix smiled as he started unpacking the bag, setting takeout containers on the table then moved to get rid of the bag before taking a seat at the table, “Better she work on her project at her friend’s house than here. I can hardly help her with her homework these days. When did kids become smarter than adults?” It wasn’t that neither Felix or Sarah had done well in school, but it seemed like kids now learnt things that were much more difficult.
“Me either. I think the internet’s had a lot to do with it” Sarah said with a wry smile, Felix and Sarah were smart and great at what they did but neither of them could claim to be geniuses, “Thankfully she seems to be heading in a science direction so we can hand her over to Cos and John for that” Kira loved learning about the science Cosima did and the astronomy John focused on.
“I will gladly let them handle the science Mumbai jumbo,” Felix said as he started piling food onto his plate, “So, speaking of John, for any Valentine’s plans?” He figured easing into the topic was best for this sort of discussion and bringing up Valentine’s Day seemed like the best way to go about it.
Sarah nodded as she began to do the same, “He’s taking me somewhere but hasn’t told me where. And Kira is staying with a friend for the weekend which she is ridiculously excited about” she told him, she hadn’t wanted to ask Fe to have her while she was away and while John had invited her along Kira wanted to stay with her friend instead.
Felix smiled as he opened one of the packets of chop sticks. He usually started with them, but eventually ended up using a fork before the end. “One can only wonder where he’s going to take you.” Felix was glad that Sarah had already made plans for Kira for that weekend cause he hated to tell her no when she asked him he could watch her, but he already had plans for himself and Josh, “I haven’t told Josh where I’m taking him yet either.”
Sarah skipped the chopsticks and started with the fork, she was hungry and knew she’d end up switching if she tried. “I honestly have no idea. So where are you taking Josh? Got something ridiculously romantic planned?” Because it was Fe and if anybody could plan something amazing it was him.
“I’m planning a trip up the coast to a bed and breakfast.” If someone had told Felix fifteen years ago that one day he’d be taking a guy to a bed and breakfast, he probably would have told them to fuck off. Back then he’d pretty much been a delinquent and the idea that someday he’d actually be in love seemed so far off. “And I actually wanted to talk to you about that.”
“Look at us both being so domestic almost, how times change, Fe” Sarah said with a smile, her thoughts following much along the same lines. Moving here had been good for them both, they had a kind of stability they’d never had before. “Oh? What’s up?” she asked curiously.
“I think that means we’re growing up,” Felix made a face at that before setting his chopsticks down and getting to his feet to head to the fridge for a beer. He got one for Sarah as well and set it down in front of her before going back to his own seat, “So, I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it didn’t seem like a good time until now. I want to ask Josh to move in. Obviously I wanted to talk to you first since this isn’t just my flat.” While he wouldn’t argue with her if she didn’t think it was a good idea, Felix hoped that his sister would be okay with the idea.
Sarah made a face too but it was true, they were growing up. Living adult lives. Nodding her thanks for the beer she listened as Felix spoke, “That’s a big step Fe but you’ve obviously had it on your mind for a while. I like Josh I really do, he’s a great guy but I just need to know does he have a grip on these dreams of his? Because I have to think about Kira” Her daughter's safety came first and Josh’s dreams sounded dark, really dark.
“I know, but we’ve also been together for almost a year. Hello, we’ve already known each other for over a year,” Felix picked at the label on his beer bottle as he watched Sarah. He totally understood her wanting to make sure that everyone would be safe, “And if you’re worried about the whole wendigo shite, he’s never hurt me and since Hades mended his face, he’s seemed to be a lot better.” Felix had been there when the actor/god of the underworld had fixed Josh’s face and he still didn’t really understand what he’d done, but it had had something to do with using his own magic to counteract the wendigo curse. At least, he was pretty sure that was what had happened.
Felix’s words made Sarah realise that she and John had know each other over a year too. That was longer than anything she’d had in her past. Pushing that to the side for now she focused on Felix’s words, “Okay, well then congratulations and yes, ask him to move in” she said moving to give him a hug. She was still a little nervous but Josh was a lovely guy and he made Felix incredibly happy. Kira liked him too and she was a pretty good judge of character, Sarah knew she’d be happy about it.
Felix had honestly thought that he’d have to work a little harder to convince Sarah that it would be alright if Josh moved in so when she agreed, he almost thought that he was hearing things. “Really? You’re okay with it?” He grinned as he returned the hug, squeezing Sarah tightly, “You know that this means you’re going to be recruited to help him move, if he says yes.”
At the end of the day the most important thing to Sarah was her family being happy and healthy and Josh made Fe happy. She’d speak to Josh of course, make sure he was aware that if he ever felt unsafe or worried because of the dreams he had to speak to them but she’d welcome him. “I’m okay with it” she confirmed arms tightening as she spoke. “Don’t worry, that’s what I have John for he can help with the heavy lifting” she grinned.
Felix had no doubt that Sarah would likely talk to Josh before he moved in, if he said yes of course, but he knew that she was also understanding of the things that happened in the dreams, “Good cause I don’t do heavy lifting.” Felix would carry boxes, sure, but he wasn’t likely to move furniture.
Sarah wouldn’t ever hold Josh’s dreams against him, it would be hypocritical to do that when hers weren’t exactly perfect. “Don’t worry, I am sure he knows you well enough to know that” she laughed.
Felix smiled, knowing that Sarah only wanted to make sure that everyone would be safe, but glad that she knew how much this meant to him, “If he doesn’t then he hasn’t been paying attention.” He took a sip of his beer; now he just had to decide how to ask Josh and hope that he said yes.
