Who: Spencer and Audrey What: Random Encounter Where: Movie Theater When: Sometime in October. Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Spencer got a text message from her sister as she was standing in the middle of the lobby at the movie theater. Melissa, apparently, had more important things to do with her time, and was bailing on Spencer at the last minute. Damn. Spencer had already purchased her ticket, and she wasn’t all that keen on whatever this film was, anyway. But she could load up on popcorn and sugary sweets and go sit in the theater anyway? Hopefully she wouldn’t fall asleep. She’d been up reading all night last night. That book was damn addictive.
She stepped into the line for concessions and checked the time on her phone.
Work had been rather boring tonight, although that could change at any moment. Audrey had seen that first hand, and part of her really hoped that the night wouldn't be that busy. As it was, she'd just come out to take over at the concession counter so her co-worker could go home. With a smile she greeted the next customer in line and took their order. It wasn't but a few moments later that their popcorn, drink and candy were on the counter and they were out of the way.
Audrey smiled at the girl in line, "Hey, what can I get for you?"
Spencer was a little irritated that her sister was ditching her last minute for the movie. She stepped forward in line and broke into a somewhat devillish smile. “I’m thinking it’s probably time for a large coke, a small popcorn, and a pack of Goobers.” Caffeine, sugar, chocolate, and some nummy popcorn sounded like a plan. She could treat herself tonight before she had to go home and do all kinds of homework.
The look on the girl's face prior to her smile caused Audrey to tip her head a little. It wasn't any of her business what had happened, but if some lameass stood her up? Well, that was definitely their loss from what she was seeing. "Of course," with a nod, Audrey grabbed the chocolate from underneath the counter, and moved to start making her coke. Once that was filled, she placed it onto the counter beside the pack of Goobers and went to the popcorn machine. After filling up a small tub, she turned to look at Spencer. "Do you want extra butter on this?"
Spencer didn’t bother waiting until she’d paid for the chocolates before opening them and starting to eat them. Watching the woman behind the counter with interest, she absent-mindedly popped the chocolate covered peanuts into her mouth one by one. “Thanks,” she said, once the soda was set on the counter in front of her. She’d eat and drink her frustrations away if it killed her, she thought, as she put a straw into the soda. “Yeah,” she answered quickly, mouth still full of candy. She quickly swallowed. “I mean, yes please. Might as well enjoy it since my sister’s not here to make comments.”
Audrey didn't blame the girl for snacking while she was waiting, but she hoped that she did have the money to pay for everything otherwise it was her ass on the line. She gave a nod and put a few pumps of butter onto the fresh popcorn. "Of course," she brought it over to the counter, brows raising slightly. "I don't see what it matters. Everyone deserves a bit of a treat every now and again." With a shrug of her shoulders, Audrey rattled off the price after entering everything into the register.
Spencer pulled cash out of her wallet to pay for her items once they were in hand. She paid for her things and accepted her change, then pocketed it again. “You see a lot of movies here? I imagine you probably get to see them free, right?”
Taking the cash, Audrey hit the buttons on the cash register and then handed her back her change. She gave a nod, "We do get to see them for free, or sometimes at a discount if we bring friends." There was also the viewing box that they were allowed to sit in when they did come in on their off days. "But yeah, that's definitely one of the perks to working here."
That would absolutely be a perk to working at a movie theater. It would mean disaster for Spencer, though, who needed time to study. She’d probably spend too much time at the theater and not enough behind the books. “What’s the best movie playing right now?” Spencer asked. “Just in case this one’s crap and I want to theater hop?” She was absolutely kidding, but it came out kinda deadpan.
Audrey raised a brow at Spencer's question, but she didn't comment on how it was against the rules to theater hop. She would've probably done the same thing, to be honest, if she didn't like a movie. "I'd say go check out Moonlight, it's a good film. Or if you're in the mood for something scarier, I'd say go to Ouija, it's okay." Of course, Audrey had had enough of horror in her dreams, and while she could appreciate a good horror movie she wasn't too sure about seeing anything at the current moment. "Either way, I hope you enjoy the film you've chosen to watch."
Spencer finally broke into a smirk. She nodded, thinking that something scary might be a good bet. “Thanks.” She said, and collected her purchases from the counter. “Good luck with the rest of your shift,” she offered, then turned to head into her theater for the movie.
