Minato had had a blast at the party. It'd been filled with good people, good music and fun times. His costume for the night had been a last minute purchase, a 20's Gangster outfit that he'd thrown together with various pieces bought from different stores. Pinstripe pants, a black long sleeve button up with a pinstripe vest, white tie and fedora. He'd completed the look with a fake gun, but that had been left in the car as they headed into the diner for a late night bite to eat.
Minato was glad he'd asked Hannah to go with him. They'd had fun, or at least, he hoped she had fun. Sliding into one side of the booth, Minato took his hat off and smoothed his hair back into place before picking up a menu. "I think I'm in the mood for a burger, or maybe a steak with an egg." He glanced over at Hannah with a small smile, and then up at the waitress as she came over. "Coffee, with extra creamer for me please."
The party had been fun. She wasn’t always great with social gatherings, but it hadn’t really been such a huge group of people. She was used to more people at parties, but that was probably because most of her parties had involved her family. They had a tendency to invite everyone they knew, whether or not it was necessary to do so. When he’d asked her to go to the party, she’d forgotten to ask what he was going to be. She’d just tried to figure out what to be. She wasn’t comfortable with a lot of the costumes that were available for women, so she’d gone for something she knew: minerals and rocks. She’d dressed as an amethyst geode. It wasn’t really rock shaped. It would have taken a lot longer to get the rock shaped costume together. So she wore a shimmery purple dress with a dark gray jacket over it and dark gray leggings. It worked for her...even if she did get a lot of blank stares when asked.
Hannah was glad now that she’d foregone the rock-shaped costume now that they were going to a diner. Next year, she might actually try for the rock-shaped costume idea, though. “A steak with an egg?” She wasn’t sure if that was a serious comment or not, but it didn’t sound like something she’d put together. Hannah cleared her throat when she noticed the waitress was over. “Hot chocolate for me, thank you.”
Laughing, Minato lifted a shoulder. "It sounds good, but then again that could be the little liquor I've consumed talking. Everything sounds good." Minato was fairly certain that they could've sat anything down in front of him and he would've eaten it at this point. Maybe he was just hungry. Either way, food, of any kind, sounded delicious.
The waitress left with their drink orders, and Minato's eyes went back to the menu. "Hot chocolate sounds good. You know what I haven't had this year?" He glanced over at Hannah with a small smile, "Hot Apple Cider. Actually," his brows furrowed slightly, "I don't think I've had it since the last time I was in New York visiting my dad." He really needed to go see his old man soon. It was crazy how quickly the time flew by, and how many excuses he could make for not going to see him.
Hannah smiled. “Well, I guess anything sounds appetizing when you've had enough to drink.” She'd never done much drinking because Josh usually did enough for all of them. She didn't mind a little drinking sometimes.
When the drinks got there, Hannah carefully wrapped her hands around the mug, checking to make sure that it wasn't too hot. “I've always been a fan of hot chocolate. Hot cider is good, too.” She looked up at him for a moment. “Maybe we can find a place to get some around here. Unless New York is the place to go for hot apple cider. Then we might not be so lucky.”
With a nod, Minato laughed. "Yeah, some of the craziest concoctions sound like a dinner at a five star restaurant." The last time he'd gotten that drunk was when he went out clubbing with Mike a few months ago. That had been a fun night, but he'd sincerely regretted it the next morning with the hangover he'd had.
He smiled softly, "I don't think it's the place to get it. I just hadn't really looked around here for any." He added a few of the little creamers the waitress sat down into his cup before picking up his spoon to stir it. "But I'd be more than happy to try and find a place with you." He'd heard of a farmer's market in town, surely they'd have something like that. The waitress reappeared this time with her notebook in hand, and he glanced up at her. "I'd like a bacon cheeseburger, please. With extra fries on the side." That sounded good enough to him.
“That’ll happen. I’ve seen people eat the weirdest stuff. Even without the alcohol. Food that’s supposedly fancy is kind of weird.” She understood that sometimes people just enjoyed food she couldn’t really get past. “I’m still trying to decide if I want breakfast or dinner food.” It was a difficult choice. Mostly because she felt like both.
There was a smile at that. She was glad that her real life didn’t seem to reflect her dream life. People actually liked to spend time with her. Boy people in particular. She knew Sam, Josh, and Beth liked spending time with her, but this was different. “Then we’ll have to look for some. I’m sure there’s got to be something around here.” Once Minato had ordered, Hannah stared at the menu again for a moment before she looked up, “Um. Actually that sounds pretty good. I’ll get what he’s getting. Except I don’t need extra fries. I’ll never eat all of them.”
"It is kinda weird." Minato agreed with a slight nod of his head, and a smile. "I think I heard someone say one time that rich people only want the trash parts of the animals. Which, if you really think about it is sorta true." Minato was a guy with simple tastes, he had no desire to have a lot of fame or fortune. No, he wanted to dance, enjoy life and have a family of his own. "That is a hard choice." He was still debating himself on what he wanted, but he figured that it would come to him the moment the waitress walked over there.
"I'm sure there is. It's just finding it. There's the farmer's market here, they might have someone that serves it. Or one of the local apple orchards might." Minato was fairly certain that they could find an orchard that served it, or at least sold it. If not, they could always buy some of the pre-packaged stuff at the grocery store, but honestly nothing beat fresh apple cider. Once the waitress had left with their orders in hand, Minato smiled over at Hannah. "I thought that it looked the best. I'll pay for it tomorrow by working out extra, but I think it's totally worth it." He cocked his head to the side, and leaned back in the booth. "Thank you for coming with me. I had a great time."
“Good. Then we’ll look for some!” She didn’t know that much about farmer’s markets or orchards, but she was sure that Sam knew. If she didn’t know, Hannah had a feeling that she could find something online. “It’ll be fun.” She was starting to get a little more comfortable, which meant she didn’t constantly overthink what she was saying. She smiled a little as he started to talk again. “Well, I would like to say I would also do that, but I will probably be in school sitting around in lectures, so it’s not likely to happen. But I’ve been assured that calories don’t count if you’re having fun, so I think I’ll go with that.” She knew it wasn’t true, but she’d heard people say it before, so she thought it couldn’t hurt to repeat it. It was like people that said that you could eat twice as much if you were walking and eating. “Well, thank you for inviting me. It was a lot of fun. I’m glad I went.”
Minato was excited about the prospect of finding a place that had apple cider with Hannah. It would be a little adventure, and he was always up for that. Besides, it meant that he'd be able to spend more time with her which was always a plus in his book. Pursing his lips, Minato thought on that for a moment. "That sounds good enough to me. I mean, it seems fair anyway." He replied with a thoughtful nod, although he would take the time at the gym to work out just to make himself not feel guilty about indulging. "Of course, any time. I'm glad you had fun. My friends, co-workers and students aren't that hard to deal with." Well most of the time. Minato knew he'd get the fifth, again, about what was going on between him and Hannah. "How is school going?"
Hannah smiled brightly. “It seems the best way to go about things, really.” Sometimes you just had to believe in things that weren’t true. Plus, she figured that eventually she’d end up working it off. Maybe just not tomorrow. “Well, it’s not like going to a party at my parents’ house, so that’s a positive.” She wasn’t sure when she’d be subjected to another Washington Family social gathering, but she guessed it wouldn’t be too long. Unless her parents forgot about parties. “Oh. It’s going well. There’s a lot of homework and I feel like finals are getting here far faster than I want them to. Sam and I already decided that we’re going to put together somber playlists for when our schoolwork overwhelms us and we die.” She let out a little laugh before covering her mouth. “Sorry. That was a little morbid. But it always feels like there’s something to do. But it’s good because when I’m done, I’ll get to do something I’ve wanted to do for a while.”
"I'm glad that it was a positive experience for you." Minato replied with a bright smile, although he had to wonder exactly what made one of her parents parties that bad. The way she spoke of them it was as if they didn't really care that much about their children, which was sad. Minato wouldn't know what to do without his father. "So are their parties that boring?" He asked, a brow quirking up in question. He canted his head to the side slightly as she started talking about her school work, he chuckled softly and lifted a shoulder. "Sometimes you have to be prepared? Although, I sincerely hope that your school work doesn't kill you." He hadn't ever heard of anyone dying because of school work, "But yeah, you'll get there and be able to work with things that you love." Again, he could understand working with something that was your passion. He did it every day himself. Picking up his coffee, Minato took a sip and then sat it back down. "Have you thought of any songs to put on your playlist yet?"
“It’s not that they’re boring so much as they’re overwhelming. There’s so many people and they expect you to talk about yourself and everything. There’s just too much. Josh is better at being in the spotlight than I am. He can talk to people and put on his ‘sociable’ face. I’m just...awkward around all those people. It’s why I keep hoping they forget our birthday most years because I know we’ll end up with a bunch of people we don’t know at our party and have to figure out how to deal with it. Beth’s better at it than me, too.” She shrugged slightly. If her parents threw a party, they threw a party. Even when she would have preferred a small family dinner to a party.
“Yeah. Being prepared is probably the best way to be.” She smiled and looked down. “I hope I don’t die because of school work either, but you can never be too safe.” She shook her head at the question. “No. I haven’t figured out any of the songs yet. I’ve been going through a lot in my head, but I always get distracted and then don’t end up finishing those thoughts.”
A light smile graced Minato's lips, "Well if they don't happen to forget and you need backup just let me know." He'd be happy to attend a party with her, and possibly keep her distracted from the other party goers. He'd been to enough parties to know how to handle most people, even the rich and famous.
He shook his head too, and took another sip of his coffee. "I hope you don't either, that would be rather tragic." It really would be, but Minato didn't think that she would honestly die from it. "It happens. I doubt that you'll ever really need it anyway." Minato had plenty of playlists for various things and he thought that maybe he should put something together for Hannah. As soon as he had that thought the waitress came back over with their food in her arms. Minato smiled up at her with a small thank you. "Here's to not needing a school work has killed me playlist and to better ones." He held up a fry with a smile, glad to have been able to share the night with Hannah.
