Nothing like a lab experiment gone wrong to set everything into upheaval. Bloody Bernard and Nathanson. The good news was that the proper protocols had taken place, nothing had gotten out and only those two were currently stuck in lockdown in the lab until it was safe for them to leave. However, it meant that Jemma was unable to work in her office in the lab and now needed to find somewhere else to work.
Which was what the breakroom was for. While she didn’t tend to work there often (too many people coming in and out), she knew that it was currently necessary. Yes, she could feasibly work from home and she was sure Cosima would prefer it, but appearances had to be maintained and the biochemist didn’t take well to sitting by. Besides, all the work she currently had to do right now dealt more with her position as head of the Science division, or the boring paperwork aspect, so being physically at the office was preferable.
Setting up shop at one of the tables, Jemma made herself a proper cup of tea. Her lab being uninhabitable at the moment did not mean she was going to skimp on proper tea, thank you very much.
Sharon didn’t do well with working from home. There were too many distractions there, too many people vyying for her attention. She didn’t really work well anywhere but her office when it came to the paperwork part of her job. When it came to fieldwork, that was a completely different story. Today, though, she was torn between the two--finishing up the last bits of paperwork, and heading out to investigate a call they’d received about some strange happenings that was probably bunk. But they looked into everything, anyway.
Before heading out, though, Sharon needed to coffee up and grind out the paperwork. She headed to the break room and was surprised to find it occupied. At least, one of the tables was filled. “Oh, I’m not interrupting, am I?”
And that was the main issue with working in the breakroom, people coming in and out. Not that she could blame them, that was the purpose of it. However when the door opened, she blinked and looked up before shaking her head.
“Not at all. Lab accident so I’ve been moved temporarily.” Simple response because sometimes that was all there was to it. Besides, Jemma wasn’t the type to begrudge a person their need for a break.
Sharon moved over to the coffee machine to pour herself a cup. She was frowning a little, realizing that she was an intrusion, a disturbance. And that wasn’t really fair, was it? Once her coffee was poured and the appropriate cream and sugar added, Sharon stepped over. She’d decided to be friendly, and possibly offer up a temporary solution to the other woman’s problem. “You’re Jemma, right? Sorry, I’m Sharon.”
There were reasons Jemma didn’t really say anything on the matter. She was making due and so she just needed to better train herself for distractions. Which admittedly wasn’t the easiest thing with her current health situation though it was all masked, on top of the mission Natasha had her for. Things she was not looking forward to.
“You would be correct. It’s fine. And Sharon as in the director’s cousin was it?” Jemma kept on top of things. And she knew of Sharon from the dreams though given she worked with Coulson and May and the whole traveling thing before the fall of SHIELD and all of that, well, she was used to being aware of the others while not really interacting with them in the dreams. Shame really.
“Yeah, that’s right. Peggy’s my cousin.” Sharon said, giving a smile. Peggy was absolutely one of her favorite people in the whole world. She considered herself damn lucky that she had a chance to work with her cousin. “Do you… do you need somewhere quiet to work? Because there’s a table and chair in my office that aren’t being used at the moment.” Sharon offered.
Jemma wasn’t quite sure the proper response to that, so she just smiled at the confirmation, especially as it seemed that Sharon didn’t take offence to the question. Not that Jemma could see why anyone would take offence to such a question. Peggy was absolutely brilliant. But sometimes people didn’t like living in someone’s shadow. Tricky situation. So at least that didn’t seem to be the case.
Nor was she expecting the offer.
“I wouldn’t want to put you out.” Would she like somewhere to work where she wouldn’t end up distracted with people coming in and out? Of course. However she also didn’t like putting people out.
Sometimes Sharon worried that others might assume she only got her job at the agency because she and Director Carter shared a last name. But Sharon could absolutely stand on her own two feet; she was highly trained and skilled. Thankfully, most of the people who made that connection didn’t seem to care. At least, no one gave her funny looks or snide comments.
“It’s really no trouble. I’m only here for a couple more hours, anyway, then you can have it to yourself.” Sharon lifted the coffee for a sip. It wasn’t great stuff, but with the cream and the sugar it felt like a treat.
Jemma was far too familiar with people undermining her or looking over her. She’d been top of her class, youngest graduate and they still didn’t think she had what it takes, or would talk to Fitz or any other male in the lab before she had been put in charge of it. So she would never assume that someone only got a position because of who they knew.
“That would be a relief, thank you.” Because really. She could make due with the break room, and she was used to working under pressure and having to deal with things flying at her, but being able to work on reports without disruption would make it go by infinitely quicker.
“Sure.” Sharon gave her a smile. “You know where my office is? I’ll go set the keypad so you can come in and go out at your leisure.” Sharon could go ahead and double-check to make sure the table was, indeed, clear, and the chair, too. Though, Sharon’s office was almost always clean.
Smiling in relief, Jemma nodded. “Thank you, you’re a lifesaver. But that sounds brilliant” At least in regards to getting her work done. Jemma had other concerns about her health and life that were far more complex, but that was all locked away deep inside of her. For now, she was a bit more worried about getting these reports done.
