Gwen had spent the day tidying the apartment up, taking advantage of the fact that Morgana was out of town so she didn’t have to discuss every thing she moved with the other woman. She could just put it where she wanted and be done with it. Taking a slight break to start dinner and then get cleaned up. Sure it was just a dinner with an old friend to celebrate him getting the job he wanted but she still wanted to look nice. She smiled when she heard his familiar knock on the door. “Just a minute,” she called over her shoulder, giving the flat one more look over before heading to the door and opening up, smiling at him as she stepped back to let him in. “Arthur. Right on time,” she said happily. She was making his favorite dinner and had stopped off yesterday at the grocery store to get his favorite ice cream for dessert. And some nice wine for the two of them. Tonight was about celebrating and relaxing with her friend. *** Arthur was looking forward to seeing Gwen that night. He always enjoyed spending time with Gwen. They connected on a level more than he did with his other friends. Arthur was close to them, but Gwen… There was something different there regardless of the fact that they were romantically involved for quite some time. Still he’d take what he could. “Gwen, lovely to see you again,” he said with a smile entering the apartment she said with Morgana. “How are you?” *** Gwen couldn’t help it when she saw that smile, she wrapped one arm around him in a loose hug as she stretched up slightly to kiss his cheek. She closed the door behind him and led him over to the dining room. “I’m fine. Looking forward to hearing all about your job over dinner! Which is almost ready so if you want to go ahead and have a seat - I’ll be right back with everything,” she said, smiling at him as she went into the kitchen to finish up the last few things for dinner and pull it off the heat. *** “Of course,”he said with a smile moving to take a seat at the table. “It smells amazing,” he called out to her. He loved Gwen’s food and he was glad to get to experience again. He missed eating it constantly. He missed her. Talking to her and seeing her occasionally just wasn’t the same. He didn’t want to talk about him, he wanted to hear all about her and what she had been up to. He’d tell her about the job though since she wanted to know. It was always about her. *** “I fixed your favorites like we talked about. I found some of mum’s old recipes and I’ve been using them. Not quite the same as when she made them but you know how she was about her secret ingredients. She didn’t write them down anywhere. Something about wanting to make sure that her recipes stayed hers.” Gwen said with a smile as she looked over her shoulder at him as she finished up dinner. This was an old routine of theirs that she’d missed. Something very homey about this. About them doing this. “I also picked up some wine for us,” she said, taking the food over into the dining room and setting the dishes on the table before going back for the wine and handing it to him as she took her seat beside him. “Would you mind opening and pouring for us?” *** Arthur couldn’t help but smile. Gwen’s mother had been an amazing cook and his favorites? She certainly was spoiling him and he found that he wasn’t complaining. “Of course, that sounds wonderful. I do love your mum’s recipies. She was brilliant. You are too,” he added with a smile as he moved to get the wine and pour them a couple of glasses. “Lasgana?” he asked trying to determine what exactly it was that he could smell *** Gwen felt her cheeks heat up at that compliment. “Flatterer,” she said, winking at him as she pulled the lasagna out of the oven to show she didn’t mind it at all. “Her lasagna and the garlic bread. With extra garlic butter on the side just in case you wanted some. And because she’d never put it on the table otherwise - a salad.” She said, placing the baking pan on top of the stove as she turned off the oven before moving away to let it cool enough to serve and get everything else out and ready. *** “Sounds amazing,” Arthur said with a grin. “I look forward to it,” he told her truthfully. He was looking forward to it. Good food and good company. He wasn’t sure what else he’d want. |
