Who: Harley, Helena and Christina What: First family trick or treating excursion and a visit to a haunted house! When: Halloween evening Where: Their neighborhood Warnings: Family friendly
Getting Christina to choose what she wanted to be for Halloween had been a difficult process. The ten year old tended to change her mind from day to day. However, she’d finally come to a decision. Christina was going to be a pirate. So after having dinner and ensuring Christina got her homework done, Helena helped her get ready, at least in part. Though of course she let Harley help as well if she wanted.
At any rate, Helena did slip away at some point to put her own costume on. She was going as Wonder Woman. Luckily she’d made up her mind about that several months ago, so she’d actually gotten a high quality costume done of the outfit worn by Gal Gadot. Sword, shield and lasso included, of course. Luckily she already had dark hair so no wig was needed. She simply put gentle curls in her hair. Once she was ready, she attached the lasso to her hip, grabbed her sword and shield and headed out to find her wife and daughter.
“Is everyone ready to go trick or treating?” She asked.
Harley had wanted to go as herself. She hadn’t been sure which version. Obviously certain versions were really popular this go round. But she’d eventually decided to straight up make a version of her from her forties dreams. The black and red bra and stockings, bomber jacket and short shorts. And the make-up of course. She was fond of the look, and she’d made the christmas elf version too, for reasons.
But she was staring at Helena like she couldn’t look at anything else. “Hoo boy.”
The staring was reciprocated. Harley looked good in that outfit. She grinned a bit. “You look wonderful, love,” she said to Harley. She then smirked a bit. “I take it you like my costume?” The slight tone of amusement in her voice gave away that she already knew the answer to that question. She then tore her eyes away from Harley and looked at Christina. “It looks like we’re ready to go!” Helena then slid the sword into the sheath on her back so she could have one free hand.
“It’s amazing,” Harley whispered. She tore her eyes away to smile at her step-daughter. “And you look so cute! The cutest pirate that ever sailed the seven seas. Are ya the Dread Pirate Robert? Strike fear an’ terror into everyone?”
She took each of their hands and led them down to the sidewalk. “Looks like a busy night, that’s good!”
“Of course! What kind of pirate would I be if I didn’t?” Christina asked with a large grin. She took Harley’s hand, carrying her pumpkin-shaped pail for gathering candy in her other.
“You could be like Captain Jack Sparrow,” Helena pointed out, smiling over at her daughter as she held Harley’s hand. Christina had recently watched the Pirates of the Caribbean movies with Helena’s permission. Captain Jack wasn’t quite the typical pirate. He’d been branded as one simply because he wouldn’t deal in slavery and instead set those people free.
“Now that’s a good pirate,” Harley agreed. Even if the real life truth of the actor struck a little close to home to Harley, she could still enjoy his roles. “Protecting innocents and having a little fun while you’re at it!”
“Oh, yes! I do like him. He’s definitely a good pirate.” Christina said with a nod. “Isn’t that the best way to do things, though? Save people and having fun at the same time?”
Helena had to smile. “Yes, indeed it is.” There was nothing wrong with having some fun along the way, after all! Within reason, of course.
“You’re a good kid.” She ruffled Christine’s hair and then fixed her bandana. She pointed with exaggerate flourish with her hammer. “THATAWAY! There’s a haunted house on Summers Lane we just have to check out.”
She looked at her wife like she was making sure that was okay.
Christina giggled. “I try to be.” Though she certainly had times where she could be bratty. She did have her mother’s temperament. Which would possibly prove a bit tumultuous once she hit puberty. Helena was silently dreading those years and wondering if she’d turn into her own mother.
She seriously hoped she didn’t.
“So long as there is nothing too scandalous or gory, I see no issue with that,” she responded, looking back at Harley. She was assuming Harley had looked into what the haunted house had in it.
With Harley around, it wasn’t likely that she’d let Helena turn into her mother. She’d make sure of that! “Nothin’ too bad!” She’d made sure of that, too! She looked at Christine. Sometimes her heart hurt, thinking about her own daughter. She didn’t have the right to see her, or be with her, or anything like that. But…
She hoped some day she’d come looking.
“Then let’s go!” Christina announced with a grin, looking up at her parents. It was still strange to her to have two now, but she liked it. And she liked making both of them happy.
“Lead the way, love,” Helena said to Harley, squeezing her hand gently. This was their first Halloween together as a family. Christina hadn’t been here the previous year thanks to Helena’s dreams giving her long term issues she’d needed to work through. Some of which she was still working through, but she could function as a human being and a mother now.
Was Christine’s father out there? Harley couldn’t quite remember at the moment, and she didn’t quite seem to care. At all. Even a little. She swung her arm with enough force to get Christine almost airborn as they walked. “Now, I did some scoutin’ earlier. You can tell which houses have the best candy by the quality of their decorations, so we’ll take on what I’m callin’ Attack Pattern Alpha. We’ll plunder the whole neighborhood!”
Christina’s father was still out there, but he’d wanted nothing to do with her. And just to ensure that he didn’t change his mind and try to either come crawling back into Helena’s life or to take her daughter away, she’d tracked him down not long after Christina had been born and had him sign away his paternal rights. He had no legal claim on Christina, and Helena would sooner kick him in the balls with a steel-toed boot than let him get a word in edgewise.
“Attack Pattern Alpha, I like it! I want to gather all treasure possible!” Christina announced with a laugh as she practically skipped alongside Harley.
Harley would happily help. Christina was hers now, and she loved the girl with all her massive heart. “Good! A fearsome pirate and her crew, sailing the seven seas!” Harley burst out into song, and she turned out to be a really good singer. She wrapped an arm around a random adult Batman they passed. “Do you take your coffee” And Harley suddenly made her voice gravelly, “Dark, like the night? Do you put Just Ice in your drinks? How many Caped Crusaders does it take to screw in a lightbulb?”
The man stared at her.
“None. They prefer the dark!” She gave him a sloppy and loud kiss, then bounced away, picking Christina up and lifting her onto her shoulders. Behind her, she could hear “Batman’s” companion say, “Wow, that’s the best Harley cosplayer I’ve ever seen!”
Helena could only grin as Harley broke into song. When she found the Batman, she could only cross her arms amusedly. She let Harley and Christina get a head start and she glanced back at the Batman and his companion. “And I’d better go make sure she doesn’t cause too much trouble or I’ll have to tie her up.” She winked, patting the lasso at her hip. “All in a day’s work.” She then ran after her wife and daughter to catch up with them.
If Christine wasn’t in ear shot, Harley would have said something very very lewd. Instead she winked at Helena and instead said, “Only you could ever get the truth out of me.”
And enjoy it too.
The first three houses were decent, though not spectacular. Still, Harley thought it would make a good haul by the end!
Helena smirked. “I rather think both of us would enjoy my getting the truth out of you.” And she most certainly would enjoy it. Helena was also very good at that sort of thing. She also was already having a very good idea of where her night would be spent once Christina was in bed.
It was definitely a good start to gathering candy. Christina kept an eye on what kinds of candy she was getting. There would be candy sorting at some point after getting home, whether it was tonight or tomorrow depended on how tired she got trick or treating.
As long as it involved going all japanese rope bondage with that lasso, Harley would be happy. She did keep an eye on the incoming candy as well, but nothing seemed suspicious. No razor blades in apples anyway. Not that she’d accept apples. Sad as it was that hadn’t even been safe when she’d been a kid. “Ooh that one went with name brand candy!”
Helena definitely had ideas involving rope. She also had ideas of what to do with Harley once she was tied up. While Helena may have the appearance of being a very sophisticated and demure English woman, she was extremely kinky when it came to the bedroom. She wasn’t shy about much of anything in that department. She’d actually be very comfortable at a sex club as well.
“They did! This is going well!” Christina beamed. She was also keeping an eye out for those kinds of people who gave out toothbrushes or something to fight the cavities that came with eating too much candy.
“I rather think you’re going to have quite the haul tonight, love.” Helena said with a warm smile. She was making sure no one was slipping anything other than candy into Christina’s pail.
Harley had picked pretty much one of her most perfect women. She was quite lucky! “We don’t even gotta egg anyone’s houses this year!”
There’d been previous years that had incurred Harley’s wrath. “We’re almost to the haunted house, are ya ready to be scared?”
Harley wasn’t the only lucky one. Helena was lucky that she’d picked a woman who was into the same sort of things she was. They were both pretty damn lucky. “That is always a plus.”
Christina nodded frantically. “Yes, I’m ready to be scared!” It was Halloween, who wasn’t ready to be scared?
“Great!”
The house was large and imposing, with gaping gargoyles and well placed spider-webs hinting at some monstrous spider hiding somewhere. They were led inside, and it was haunted mansion-esque, with creepy sounds echoing around them.
Luckily neither Helena nor Christina were afraid of spiders. Christina was a little more wary of them, but Helena had no fear of them, regardless of size. Though she might’ve gotten a bit uncomfortable with Shelob in The Lord of the Rings movie, but that was understandable in that case.
Once inside, Christina made certain to stick close to both Harley and Helena. She didn’t want to get separated from them. Likewise, Helena didn’t want to get separated from Christina, mostly because of that lingering dream issue of Christina having died and being separated from her tended to make her go a little crazy.
But the haunted house was certainly exhilarating. Christina screamed appropriately, and even Helena screamed a couple times. And Helena had a surprisingly girly scream. It was high pitched and a bit on the shrill side, something she pretended didn’t exist.
“I’m not letting you live that down,” Harley told her, a gigantic grin on her face. She felt like they were in one of those haunted house memes. They even got a picture at the end with Harley leaping into Helena’s arms.
Next year she should be scooby doo.
Helena’s only response to Harley was to stick her tongue out at her. So very mature of her, yes, but Pete hadn’t let her live it down in her dreams, so it seemed she wouldn’t live it down here either.
She also caught Harley while Christina grabbed onto her. She wasn’t small enough to grab her leg anymore, so she’d grabbed Helena around the waist. All in all, the picture certainly looked like Wonder Woman was living up to her name by being the strong one. At least pictures didn’t come with sound.
“That was the best!” Harley let out her own shriek, tipping the homeowner a significant amount, before picking Christina up and rushing out of the house. This really was the best holiday. Dressing up, being someone else (or being herself honestly). Getting to hide in plain sight. She dropped Christina (carefully) next to her. “All right kiddo. Where to next?”
“It was certainly great!” Helena agreed with a smile. She complimented the homeowner as well on their way out.
“That way! I want more candy to add to my plunder.” Christina grinned, pointing in one direction with her toy sword.
“Just keep in mind you do have school tomorrow, Christina,” Helena gently reminded her in that mom tone of hers. She wasn’t wearing a watch, nor was she carrying one, but she was surprisingly good at telling what time it was without the aid of technology.
“Halloween and the day after should be national holidays,” Harley whispered, loud enough to be heard by everyone around them. She got a round of agreements and one bitterly angry no from a harried looking older woman.
“I do happen to agree they should be holidays.” Helena thought it was a bit evil to expect people to do homework on a night when they spent most of the evening having fun. But even so, she was going to ensure Christina went to school tomorrow. She didn’t like her missing school unless she was ill or had a doctor’s appointment.
“Just don’t eat so much candy you end up having to stay home sick,” Harley said, expression completely innocent and not at all devious in that ‘harley no harley yes’ kind of way.
Helena gave Harley a careful look. She had ways to work with that. Such as if Christina stayed home sick, then there wouldn’t be a leisurely morning in bed for the two of them. After Christina got to school, of course. Helena was not above using sex as a motivator at times.
“We’ll see about that,” Christina responded as she bounded off to the next house.
Helena shook her head slightly and chuckled. She leaned in close to Harley, lips brushing against her ear as she whispered. “Let’s try and get her to school in the morning because I have plans for you, love.” Her voice was dripping with suggestion and she pulled away, taking her turn to act all innocent and not at all devious as she went after Christina.
