Who: Sarah and Conner
What: A guardian angel
When: Early April
Where: Community Centre
Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete

Sarah had a drop in clinic at the community centre once a month, not enough in her opinion but there was no funding for anybody else and she was only one person with a number of locations to visit.

In truth it was fairly quiet but sometimes you got a busy day, this was not one of those. While her focus was child counselling she didn’t discriminate and spoke to a wide range of citizens who needed help.

Conner had been paying attention as he learned about Orange County, and he had heard about Sarah’s work. He had wondered at her dedication, and he found he wished he could help. When he found out about the funding(by wining and dining someone who should have known better), he hatched a plan to help, and scheduled an appointment to meet her.

Which meant he had to steal an appointment someone else might need, but hopefully not someone in need… or something. He had made sure to tell the receptionist he could be bumped if needed, then proceeded to wait until he was called.

Sarah went to her office door and called in her next appointment, while she wasn’t the sort to stereotype he didn’t look like her usual client. But she smiled and gestured for him to sit down as she closed the door behind him.

“So Conner right? How can I help you today?” she asked him with a smile.

“Conner, yes. Actually, I’m here to help you.” He took out an envelope, engraved with a bank seal and passed it across the desk. “I am afraid i made this appointment to see you in order to pass this to you. I’m in possession of rather a lot of money that I got only because i was born to a family I want nothing to do with.” He sighed.

“And so I wanted to help those I could. I heard your organization’s good deeds could use a little… backing, so I wanted to make a donation. I checked up, found you were legit, and saw you on… Valarnet. So, I decided to help. No strings, no conditions. Just a chance for me to do more than... sit on money I don’t need.”

The check within held five zeroes with a single digit at the front.

As Sarah listened she knew her face went through a range of emotions from curious to surprise to disbelief to astonishment. It definitely wasn’t how she had expected her day to go.

“Oh my god” she breathed, “This is incredible. The amount of people this will help, it’s...more than I can say. Are you sure?” Because Sarah was fairly new around here and while she knew the help she was providing these kids and young people was valuable she wasn’t used to anybody else seeing that.

“I’m very sure. I pay attention. You do good work, and people remember it. I feel hopeful that you will know how to apply this moment to help more people.” He grinned at her, loving the shock and other emotions that shot across her face. He liked helping people, honestly and completely.

“My only condition is that you tell no one this is from me. I don’t want to be known as some philanthropist. I’m just a college kid who happens to have a whole lot more money that I know what to do with. Someone like you, who has a system in place, can use it to help people in ways I never would imagine.” Now? Now he felt like a superhero.

“Thank you, this will mean the world to so many young people. It means the world to me knowing I can help them like I want to” Sarah told him earnestly and honestly. It was like something out of a dream, or a tv show that always happened to other people. Not her.

“Of course. Whatever you want” she said before getting out of her chair and moving to give him a hug, “Sorry for being unprofessional but this calls for at least one hug” she told him giving him a wide smile. He deserved to feel like a superhero, because he was one in her eyes.

Conner was startled, then smiled, flushing. “Thank you, and you’re welcome. I feel like I should do something with the gifts given me, and while I don’t think I’m cut out to be a superhero, at least I can use the money I have gotten from the dream world to good use.” He nodded, thinking of the comics he had read, and shaking his head.

“Superheroes come in all forms you know, maybe you can be a guardian angel” Sarah suggested, “You have the heart of a hero. Wanting to help people and make the world a better place”
