Guinevere had been trying to think of things to do with her students that would keep their interest and be educational. Of course she could have had them practice their alphabet or their handwriting or any number of things but she wanted them to be active also, learning something that might help them keep busy outside of school. And not many of her little ones were the type to go home and practice their handwriting just for fun. It had taken her a few days, and she’d looked over some of her mother’s teaching things for ideas, but she’d finally decided on trying to start a little in class garden with her students. If the plants grew well and the kids enjoyed it at the end of the year maybe they could take some of the plants home.
She didn’t know much about plants though so a greenhouse or a nursery seemed like a good place to start and though she knew Merlin and Audrey knew someone affiliated with one and would probably give her his name and put her in touch with him, she wanted to do this on her own. She’d asked some of her neighbors to recommend one, and some of the other teachers at the school, deciding to go with the name she’d heard the most.
“Hello?” she called, stepping through the door and looking around without seeing anyone. Their hours said they were open so she just had to assume that everyone was in the back as she made her way further into the greenhouse, looking at the plants around her. She recognized a few of them but not many.

Hisoka had found himself spending more and more time in the greenhouse lately. In all the insanity that was the dreams the teenager had been drawing more into himself and avoiding people. The greenhouse was peaceful and it gave him time to think as he took care of the various flowers and plants. It gave him a chance to clear his mind of all the darkness that surrounded him.
He had just started transferring some seedlings when he heard someone calling out for assistance. Knowing he was the closest one, he pulled off the dirt covered gloves and brushed himself off before stepping out into the womans line of sight. Walking closer to her, he offered a small smile.
“How can I help you today Miss?”
****
Gwen turned when she heard someone speaking to her, smiling at the young man standing there. “Hello. I was hoping to get some help picking plants out for my class. I teach kindergarten and thought that a little garden or something for my students would be a good learning tool,” she explained.
***
Hisoka gave a polite smile and nodded in understanding. It was actually quite common for the local teachers to come in looking for plants as different teaching methods. She had mentioned kindergarten so she would definitely need something easy for them.
“How many children are in your class?” He inquired, pulling a small book out to make notes
****
“14,” Gwen told him, not even needing to think about the number of kids she was responsible for every week. Her class was a little smaller than some of the others at her school but she liked it that way, “I was hoping to get them all the same type of plant so that there wouldn’t be any disagreements.”
***
Hisoka nodded as he jotted down the number of kids as well as her other comments and requests. He also made a quick list of everything she’d need to check and see what it was that she already had and what she would need to take home with her.
“Nasturtiums would be the best I think” He suggested as he looked back up at her. “The seeds are around the size of a small pea so it will be easy for them to handle. They also grow fairly fast.”
***
“Fairly fast is perfect. I want them to learn about growing things but I also know that their attention span isn’t always the best for long projects.” It was something Gwen was working on with her kids but it was a slow process. “Do Nasturtiums take up a lot of space as they’re growing?” She asked him, thinking about her classroom. She had some space over near the window for them to get light but if they needed a lot of room she’d have to rearrange her classroom and that might take some time because she’d probably need to get some help with some of it.
***
“They’re a fairly small flower. About the size of Morning Glories, they won’t take up that much space at all” He assured the teacher. He could understand not wanting her classroom to turn into a jungle. “I have some back here that are already bloomed. You can take a look at them and see if they’re right for your class?”
****
“That sounds like a good idea. Thank you,” she told him, accepting his suggestion to take a look at those that had already bloomed before making up her mind about them. She was glad that she’d taken the suggestion to come here instead of going to another nursery for the plants. This young man was really helpful and easy to talk to, understanding about what she was looking for. She would have to recommend this place to people looking for plants.

“Of course. Right this way” He said before leading the way. Normally he would just go and retrieve the plant the customer was looking for but this gave the woman a chance to see if there was anything that stood out for her that her. It was only a brief moment or two before he was picking up a small potted plant with a few red blooms. “These are Nasturtiums. They seem bigger in lawns when they’re in large bunches”
****
Gwen had been looking at the various plants as she followed Hisoka through the greenhouse, not noticing anything that really stood out to her until he showed her the potted Nasturtiums. They were small and a nice bright color - which she was fairly certain would appeal to her students. “I think these will be perfect. Do they come in any other colors?” She asked him, just wanting to have all her information even though she was pretty sure she was going to get the red ones. Especially as she kept looking at the example he was holding. A nice bright color for her classroom and they’d be small enough for her students to take home at the end of the year to decorate their own houses.
***
Hisoka gave a small nod in response to her question. “Other than this red here they come in yellow and various shades of orange. We can set you up with some of each if you'd like to let your students choose their own color that they'd like to grow?”
The last part sounded more like a question than an actual statement. He didn't want to make Gwen think he was trying to get her to buy more than what she needed.
***
Gwen thought for a moment before shaking her head. “As much as I’d like to give my students options - I think it would just lead to fighting over who got which color. But if it goes well I’ll probably do it again next year and can get one of the other colors then,” she said, talking mostly to herself. “I’ll take some of the red seeds and whatever else I’ll need for them to grow. Individual pots would probably work best I think.”
***
Hisoka smiled and nodded as he picked up a few bags of the seeds for her. He also made sure to grab a medium sized bag of soil before leading her up to the front of the greenhouse. Leaving her for a brief few moments he returned with a case of small white pots. “I thought you might like these ones. The kids can decorate them however they'd like. And they're plastic so they won't shatter if dropped.”
****
Gwen took advantage of his absence to get her debit card out of her wallet, smiling when she looked up to see him coming back with the pots. “Those are perfect thank you. I hadn’t even thought about letting the kids decorate their pots. And anything that won’t shatter is a great idea. They’ll love these.” She didn’t even want to try and imagine the mess a shattered planter would cause or the way her students would react to it. Especially the reaction of whoever’s plant it had been.
“How much do I owe?”
***
Hisoka gave her the price and accepted her card, swiping it through and handing her receipt. Grabbing some of the bags he helped her carry her everything to her car before wishing her a nice day. He hoped that the project went well for her and that the kids enjoyed it.
