Who: Fleur Delacour and Molly Weasley
When: August 4th
Where: Weasleys' house
What: Cooking and chatting
Warnings/Rating: Likely none/Low-ish

"What are we cooking?" Fleur asked Molly slightly curious as she twisted her long blonde locks back into an artful messy bun. She had to admit that despite having a mother that was a chef, cooking was far from one of Fleur's strong points. It wasn't that she lacked the skill it was that she lacked the ability to pay attention long enough to not make a mess. There was always some catchy song on the radio that needed to be sang along with or a phone call that needed to be returned.

Still, Fleur washed her hands and tried to focus her thoughts on cooking and not making a complete mess. It did not help that she felt slightly awkward standing there in a kitchen with Molly. It had been better when she had simply been a woman she had met through dance but no she was her boyfriend's mum. It was more important to her now that Molly liked her because she had fallen harder for Bill than Fleur had thought possible and it always helped if the mother approved. It wasn't essential to her that her parents like the guys she was seeing but it always helped.

"I am sorry ahead of time for the mess," Fleur told Molly with a small grin. "I will help you clean up." And she would. Cleaning wasn't something she liked to do, it was dirty, but Fleur valued her manners and it was just rude to leave before clean up.

Molly was glad to see Bill dating. Well, she was glad it wasn't Belle he was dating. Molly wanted all of her boys to get married and bring girls home to dinner. She could use more female companionship in her life. She had a couple of friends outside of the family, but mostly Molly was a family woman.

"We're doing an entire thanksgiving spread," Molly said happily as she washed her hands and dried them on her apron. "If there's one thing every woman need to know it's how to make thanksgiving dinner. I learned it the hard way since we don't have a holiday like that back in England. I'm assuming they don't in France either." She shrugged. "I'll impart all of my knowledge onto you."

Molly started pulling out all of the ingredients they would need and then set Fleur to chopping various vegetables for the stuffing.

"So, tell me. Do you have any brothers or sisters?" Molly didn't waste any time.

Fleur blinked a few times as she processed what Molly had told her. Thanksgiving dinner. It was like asking for multiple disasters. "Non, we do not exactly." Fleur picked up one of the knives and reached for the vegetables. "We have Le Revéillon though. It is a twenty course meal served at midnight on Christmas Eve." She figured it was the same in the sense they were both supposed to be elaborate meals.

"A sister." Fleur tucked her fingers into her palm so she wouldn't accidentally cut them and set to chopping the vegetables. Cutting them in a swift and able motion of someone that was used to the motion. "Gabrielle, she will be eleven in October."

She reached for another stalk of celery and kept cutting. Even though her sister was significantly younger than her Fleur adored her. "She is studying music at the Paris Conservatoire of Music." For the most part she had no problem answering whatever questions Molly wanted to ask, at least so far.

"Ah, so you do know a bit about what it takes to make a big meal," Molly replied with a smile. She had never visited France herself, the family was too poor, but it was nice to know they liked their food too.

Molly was happy to see that Fleur already knew what she was doing with the vegetables. No instruction necessary! She would get Fleur started on the rest of the stuffing once she was done and then cranberries after that!

Molly set her own hands on the Turkey rub. "Oh, eleven is such a good age," Molly reminiscenced. "You sound like you miss her. Does she come to visit ever?"

She found herself nodding though she hardly had a clue what it took to cook a big meal. Well, much beyond the theory of it anyhow. "Un peu, yes. We typically leave my mother to do all the cooking for big meals. Says it is easier if we are not in the kicthen." Truth was they were hardly around enough to be a thorn in her mother's side while cooking, at least Fleur was. "Safer too because my father would probably set fire to something," it was an amusing thought to picture her father, as smart as he was, in a kitchen.

"I do miss her, a lot." That was putting it mildly. "Non, when I went to Paris last week it was the first time I seen her in almost a year. She stays very busy with her schooling and my mom cannot afford to take time off to travel all the way here with her. We make do." And they did. "Besides by now she is probably used only seeing me a week or two of the year since it seems like I am always traveling lately for dance. Too expensive for family to always come visit." Fleur was sure Molly understood.

"You must know how it is, Bill has told me of the many places he has been." She was still a bit jealous all the places he has been were warm and tropical for the most part. Fleur set the knife down and waited further instructions or for another question to answer.

Molly laughed. "That sounds like my husband. I don't let him into the kitchen either. He's not very good with food, but he's an amazing mechanic which makes no bloody sense," she replied. "Ginny is usually the only one I let help me with meals, but she's so busy with her acting she's not around as much anymore." She sounded sad about that. Molly was losing all of her children.

"Oh, I understand," and she did. Molly and Arthur didn't exactly have a lot of money. They had to receive help from Ginny's income just to afford the house they were in now. Molly wasn't proud of that fact, but they still intended to pay every penny back.

"Bill has traveled a lot, yes." she said. "It seems like all of my children do. Well, except Ron." He was upstairs as they spoke. He never strayed too far from home, bless him. "I get to missing them a lot. Especially now that Ginny, my baby, is out on her own. All I have left to watch over is Ron." She sniffled a little and then smiled to cover it up.

"Here's bread in a bag over there, combine the vegetables with it and then stuff it inside the turkey. The glaze is almost ready. I'll leave you put it on too."

"Well, clearly more than just Ginny learned. Bill cooked me dinner," Fleur said with a wide grin before turning to busy herself with the task at hand. If she got started talking about Bill she would probably just smile and blush and carry on like a lovesick teenager and that wasn't what she wanted to do. Fleur busied herself with cooking.

"My Maman never let me in the kitchen. I was always the one that was trying to do more than one thing at once. I would try to do my homework, stretch sore muscles, or practice some new dance move while cooking while singing along with the radio... I usually just made a mess because I was not concentration." It was rather amusing to Fleur now. "So you are brave for letting me in your kitchen."

Fleur reached for the bread so she could get to work, "Mothers always get to look after children even after the leave. They come visit right? Bill always speaks highly of his family and his mother's cooking." Fleur smiled as she went to stuffing the turkey.

"But it leaves you with time for other things, right?" Fleur always tried to picture her parents enjoying their time when her and her sister were both out of the house. Whether it was a show, down time, or even just time to read a book.

"Did he now?" Molly asked, but it was a rhetorical question. She looked rather proud of her eldest son.

Molly eyed Fleur for a moment. "Well, you don't seem to be making a mess in my kitchen. There's no dancing allowed. That might be part of it." Her voice was friendly.

"Oh yes, all the children come and visit, but it's not quite the same, you know? I'm used to a table full of family and now it's usually just Arthur and I. Ron usually does his own thing for dinner, or sneaks a bite from the kitchen and goes to his room to eat it, the little rat." She shrugged as she finished up the glaze and placed it beside Fleur to wait until she was done.

Molly busied herself with the cranberries. "It does," she admitted. "I've done quite a bit of gardening, but it's probably time I go out and find a job for myself. I'm not sure what I could do after my job being raising children for the last twenty some years, but I should be able to do something."

"It was very good," Fleur assured her and it truly was. "Even if I still do not know what was in it and have no desire to ask." Bill's Egyptian dish was certainly better off a mystery Fleur reckoned because if she knew what was in it, it probably would seem less appealing.

Fleur nodded and tried not to laugh when Molly told her no dancing. It was certainly the issue most of the time she made a mess. It was just there were so few hours in the day and usually so much to practice she had to make use of any time she had. "It is the big part of it and I am trying not to make a mess in your kitchen." Bill would probably find it amusing but Fleur wasn't sure if Molly would appreciate the mess so she made sure not to make one.

"I am not sure my Maman ever had a full table expect at holidays, even then I am not sure it happened too often." There was always one of them missing from their family dinners, usually Fleur herself.

Fleur pondered it a moment as she set to putting the glaze on the table. "There is probably a lot you can do. You must have excellent time management and multitasking skills." Surely in order to raise such a large family successfully those skills had been important. "Maybe work with children?"
