Kitty had been meaning to stop by the pawn shop for some time but it wasn't to buy, it was to sell.
The shop's owner, much to the chagrin and possible annoyance of the one girl on staff, had gotten some kind of crazy idea of late to spring clean things.
The entire place smelled like an odd combination of lemony fresh and indian incense, and Isabela found that it made her sneeze. So there she was, polishing the glass on one of her counters, while stepping away every so often to sneeze into her elbow.
She looked up as Kitty entered, "Welcome to the shop! Don't mind the cleaning."
"Looks good, I don't mind!" The brunette smiled at the Indian woman. She was carrying a box.
"I got a bit carried away, I think Jack's going to kill me, but that's alright."
Isabela grinned and set her bottle of windex down, "What can I do for you today?"
"You've heard this a hundred times before, but I really need to make rent this week." She set the box down, "I've got some old Vinyl. The Who, the Ramones..."
"I've heard it plenty of times, that's true enough!" Isabela was the last person on the planet to judge, in any case. She slid the box closer to herself and started rifling through the albums.
"Are you pawning or selling?"
Kitty had been doing some mental calculations in her head, "I want to pawn them. They were a gift."
"Well the covers are all in excellent condition, so that's one point in your favor," Isabela passed her hand almost reverantly over one of the albums, then gently slid the vinyl out to have a look.
Kitty swallowed.
"Don't look so worried, duck, I've handled vinyl before, I'm an expert," Isabela winked at the girl.
"There's just sentimental value."
"I'm actually extremely good at handling just about anything," she added, as an afterthought, then slid the record back into its cover, "What were you looking to pawn these for? Their value isn't as high as it used to be."
"I just need a couple hundred, and I know they're worth more than that." Kitty leaned on the counter, wondering at Isabela's choice of words.
Isabela set the records back down in the box, and flipped through them again, "You have 120 days to pay back. Interest accrues at the end of every month, to the tune of 10%. IF you never pay me back the records are mine."
She winked at Kitty, "Just a formality, sweet thing. I'm sure you're good for it. I'll loan you 300 for the set."
That was more than she was expecting, and would more than cover what she needed, "Thank you so much! Where do I sign?"
"Let me just get the paperwork all pulled out," Isabela chuckled, and headed over to the register, then pulled out several different notepads of forms and ripped one of each off for Kitty.
"These are the terms here, this is the loan agreement, this is a bill of sale I tear up when the loan is paid in full."
Kitty nodded along, skimming each paper and then signing where necessary.
Isabela's phone beeped and Kitty glanced up for a moment before finishing the last paper. Maybe she should be pawning her computer-- lolno. She wanted to punch herself for even thinking that!
"Let me just get these filed away..." Isabela trailed off as she pulled her phone out to take a look at what was causing the beeping. Her other hand started gathering up the paperwork.
It was MMS and Video from Gaila. He lost the bet! Behold Jim Kirk, in all his glory, in a sparkly blue thong. Dancing around. There was also one of Scotty in a pink one that Gaila was probably going to be killed over.
What in the world had those three gotten up to, Isabela wondered. She really sort of hoped they'd been drunk out of their minds, though obviously Gaila had been sober enough to take pictures and videos.
Scotty in a pink thong wasn't on the list of things Isabela ever needed to see... like ever... but she thought it would make excellent blackmail material, just in case.
So she hit save on all of the files, while tapping the forms onto the counter so they collectively came together, "Right. Let me get the money out of the safe, one moment."
With that, and a very charming smile, Isabela headed into the back.
To frantically text message her boyfriend.
Kitty watched her go. Then slapped herself. Okay. Right!
Jim was a little occupied by that point, what with flinging panties and underwear at Gaila in an impromptu battle.
Having finished her furious text messaging and filed away the paperwork, Isabela returned to the counter with three crisp 100 dollar bills, and counted them out into Kitty's hand.
"1, 2, and 3. There you are, Ms. Pryde. Pleasure doing business with you."
She took Isabela's hand and shook it, "Thanks you so much. Hundred and twenty days. I'll try to be back before too much interest accrues." She smiled brightly.
Isabela laughed, "Well don't be TOO quick either, sweet thing."
Kitty's face grew hot and she nodded her head, "Hopefully I get a new roommate sooner rather than later."
Isabela perked, "Oh, you're looking for a roomate?"
She nodded, "I had a... misunderstanding with my roommate." She wasnt' sure rooming with someone she owed money to was the best idea, though. But it was something to consider.
"That's a shame, you seem like a sane enough person to live with. If you want to advertise you could put up a sign on the board there by the door."
Isabela indicated the cork board to the left of the entrance, "I can direct someone to it if I think they're nice."
"Ah, thanks." She nodded her head, "That would be utterly fantastic." She almost asked if Bela wanted to get a beer sometime, but that sounded too much like asking for a date.
Oh, to hell with it, "Want to catch a beer sometime? Just to shoot the shit."
"Catch a beer?" Isabela laughed, "Who's throwing it?"
She smirked at her own joke for a few seconds, then winked at Kitty, "I'd love to."
"Well if I get drunk enough I will be," Kitty replied, grinning. "Great, I"ll come grab you some time."
Brilliant turn of phrase!
"You do that!" Isabela's smirk widened a bit.
"..I'm going to leave before I get my foot further in my mouth." She grinned sheepishly, and then made a beeline for the door.
Isabela watched her go, then suddenly found herself wondering if it was even alright to look anymore. She certainly hoped so. She'd have to ask Kirk next time she saw him.
