“Link, wake up, Link, the Chosen One….” Link’s eyes opened to spot an older male, a wise-looking wizardly type. White hair, beard, ordained in lavish clothing and robes. The man stood above Link, but spoke to him with such glee. It was Rauru, one of the Ancient Sages, he was the Sage of Light and he was the protector of the Sacred Realm. He informed Link of the plight of the world.
It turned out, when Link had pulled the Master Sword he hadn’t been old enough to wield it yet, and so he was put to sleep for seven long years, during which time Ganon was able to retrieve the Triforce of Power, and used that power to conquer Hyrule. Killing thousands, he took the castle and became a tyrant of the land. What had become of Zelda was unclear at the time, but Link was expected to stop Ganondorf, as the destined ‘Hero of Time’.
Seven years older, Link was given the medallion of the Light Sage and sent to wield his weapon of power. Before leaving the Temple, Link was met by a young male named Sheik. A member of the ancient Sheikah tribe, the same Impa had been apart of, Sheik became a guide to the temples of the world, and a teacher of the songs that would help Link in his adventure. A mysterious figure, Link became curious of Sheik’s face hidden in shroud, who also promised Link that the Princess Zelda was still alive.
Leaving the Temple of Light, Link was accompanied by his companion, Navi, and they first went to the castle to find Zelda, but found the castle transformed into a dark tower, and the land around it ruptured and cracked. It instead floated on an island above a pit of swirling lava and fire. Link’s next trip was immediately to Lon Lon Ranch where he went to find his friends Malon and Talon; there he discovered that Ganon had given the control of the place to Ingo, the corrupt, selfish ranchhand of Lon Lon. Malon was put to work as a servant, enslaved in her own home; while Talon was forced out and cast aside.
Link was able to free Malon and the horse Epona, who became a constant companion with he and Navi as they traveled. Their journey began to take them to far reaches of Hyrule, firs the Forest Temple where Link battled the terrible spirit phantom of Ganon, and freed the Sage of the Forest, his long time friend Saria.
Next, was to Kakariko village, which had swelled in size thanks to the influx of refugees from Hyrule Castle Town making their way there after the war. From there, Link traveled to Death Mountain and went to battle the dragon Volvagia, which had been freed by Ganondorf and was going to be used to devour and destroy the Gorons. Destroying Volvagia, Link was able to save and free the spirit of Darunia, his Sworn Brother, whom was now awakened as the Sage of Fire.
Next, the Zora Kingdom which had been frozen solid, and the Zoras trapped under sheets of ice. Freeing the King, Link was able to acquire the Water Tunic, which allowed him to breathe underwater, which allowed him to travel to Lake Hylia, the once great, but now dried up lake, and enter into the Water Temple. Here, he battled his own shadow, and the Amoeba Mophus, whom he was able to vanquish and save Ruto, his once former fiancee, and Princess of the Zoras. She was awakened as a Sage of Water, and like the others before him bestowed upon him the power and medallion of the Sages.
Growing powerful, Link continued on and onwards to the temple of the Dead the Shadow Temple, Link was able to defeat the drum-beating Bongo Bongo demon, and awoke Impa as the Sage of Shadows.
Link’s dreams flew by, showing him his journey. A journey that took weeks, months, was shown to Link in minutes. Navi, Epona, and Link traveled all over Hyrule, day after day cycling by with little rest as they rushed to stop Ganon, save the Princess, and restore Hyrule to its former state of peace. Despite all the people they met along the way, it was apparent that Link and Navi really only had each other in their pursuit of the dark shadows that covered the world.
It was a lonely road, but Link was grateful to have Navi with him. It gave him some sense of support when the world faced against them, and the demons of the world were thrown at them.
The dreams ended with the Shadow Temple, and somewhere in the real world, the present day, Link’s eyes began to twitch. Fingers began to shift a bit, and the read outs on the computer monitors attached to him began to change, shifting, and beeping differently. He heard the beeps distantly, and the triangle that had been on his necklace, which lay on the table next to him began to glow a bit, pulsating a bright, gold light.
Then Link’s eyes opened and he sat up in surprise, looking around him in a panicked state. The hoses to his nose, and the wires attached to his body giving him a surprised shock. Quickly he ripped the wires off, causing alarms to go off, reaching up to grab at the hose and pull it out of his nose, and the other out of his throat. Choking a bit before throwing it to the side. His throat was sore, but he didn’t care right now.
He threw his hand to the side to grab the necklace, putting it around his neck and he stood to his feet. In his robes, he quickly moved towards the door, and out of it, ducking across the hall into another room before doctors and nurses made haste into his. Link watched out the crack of his door as they came in, looking around for him. He quickly stepped out of the room he was in and snuck down the hallway, avoiding security as he went, until he finally found a fire exit. Taking it, he scaled to near the bottom of the fire escape, and hopped free with a roll.
A mere hour later, and Link was slipping into his home, dressed in his scrubs, and quickly began to search his house. Nothing was there. Nothing. Until he got to the closet in his room, and he found the green tunic from his dreams. It was adult sized. Staring at it, Link pulled the outfit on, the pants, boots, the white shirt then the tunic over that, followed by the hat. Once on, the long-eared human looked into the mirror, frowning a moment, then took off out of his house. The door left ajar when he left, as he vanished into the night.
