Kate was waiting for Veronica at the Archery range. They had a lot of open space to practice their self defense moves. Now that they had a plan as to how they were going to run the classes, all the leaders had to do was practice their pieces.
Kate finished drinking a cup of coffee and moved to the sink in the break room to rinse it out. She heard the front door open and called out, “be right there!” as she set her cup in the draining rack.
Veronica had to admit she was a little nervous about heading back to the archery range. The last time she was here things didn’t go so well. Granted most of Orange County was going crazy thanks to some weird curse, but still. She didn’t want to get in another full out fight with Kate. And definitely no tasing. She had even left her taser at home.
“Hurry up!” she called back. “We have some serious training to catch up on.”
Kate couldn’t help but break into a grin at that. It was good to know that things went back to normal after the tasing and all that. Kate wasn’t the kind to let these things get to her, wasn’t the kind to harbor feelings. She came out of the break room and gave Veronica a bright smile.
“Seriously. Hey, it wasn’t my fault that someone tased me.” She teased, then came out the rest of the way and motioned for Veronica to follow her into the gym.
Veronica could be the type to hold a grudge. But in this situation she had been in the wrong and she knew it. She was glad Kate was still talking to her after the whole thing. “Hey,” Veronica said holding up her hands defensively. “I left the taser at home. You’re the one with the iron fists,” she teased following her back into the gym.
Kate laughed. “That is true. My fists are made of iron.” She grinned, then held up her arms, flexing her muscles. “I do have my own guns.” She kissed her biceps playfully as as as as as as as as as as she led the way into the gym. “What shall we practice first?”
Veronica laughed walking her friend. “Please don’t ever do that again,” she teased turning to face Kate once they were inside the gym. “We could try sparring again? Rip off the bandaid. Address the elephant in the room. And all those other cliches.”
Kate was laughing, too. It was nice to be playful and friendly, and not formal and instructor like. “I’m good with addressing cliches.” She said. “Let’s get to it. You ready?” She asked, moving through the room to the warm-up area of the gym. They’d have to do some stretches and the like to prepare before the sparring could actually commence.
“Ready,” Veronica agreed moving into one of the first stretches. This was going to be a good evening, she could feel it.
