Haymitch knew Wanda had started university now and cut down her hours but he wanted to check in with her to make sure she wasn’t trying to take on too much. She didn’t need to prove anything, he’d already come to see her as a valuable member of the team, her insight into how people’s minds worked helped a lot with certain contracts they had.

Knocking on the door of the office she was working in with her team he nodded at her, “Wanda” he greeted, smiling a little as her co-workers left the room silently, “Was it something I said?” he joked with a wink.

Wanda laughed in return. “No, I think they are just scared of the big boss on principle," she joked, grinning up at him from her seat behind her desk. "What can I do for you, Haymitch?" She asked, putting the papers from a case back in their files now placing it to one side.

Haymitch chuckled at that, "Oh well in that case we'll just keep letting them think I'm a scary boss man" he replied, coming to sit on her desk. "Just wanted to check in and make sure you aren't finding the workload too much with uni starting up and everything"

“Not so far,” Wanda smiled at him before standing up and moving to the kettle that was sat on a table in the corner of the office. “We have only had the first week, so it is still...early days as you call it,” she smiled and pushed the button on the kettle for it to boil. “Would you like a tea or coffee?”

“Indeed it is” Haymitch said before nodding in response to her question, “Coffee please, black no sugar thanks” Smiling he said, “Well I wanted to say you’re doing a great job so if we can do anything to help make it easier for you to stay with us just let me know”

“Coming right up,” Wanda smiled, mimicking a phrase she had heard around the office. “Thank you very much, you’re very kind to say so. I try my hardest to do a good job for you and will continue to once I have started my studies. I am sorry that I will have to reduce my hours with you though,” she sighed, putting a spoonful of instant coffee into the cup and pouring the boiled water onto it.

"Don't worry about that. You're doing great, and we're lucky you're not leaving completely like some people would" he told her, "I hope you're enjoying the work"

“Of course!” Wanda enthused, turning to hand him her coffee. “Everyday I feel like I am learning something new and become a little more confident,” she smiled at him, turning back to the kettle to pour herself a cup of tea. “I hope I am doing a good job for you? No complaints?” she ventured.

He nodded his thanks for the coffee, “Glad to hear it and there are definitely no complaints from me” he assured her, “Your work is very good and the reports from your team are practically glowing”

Wanda grinned proudly as she sat herself down with her cup of tea. “Well I’m happy to hear that,” she grinned. “How are you doing?”

“Me?” he smiled, he had to admit he wasn’t used to that question being directed at himself, “I’m doing okay. Business is good so I can’t complain there”

“Good, I’m glad to hear that,” Wanda smiled at him. “I wouldn’t want you to think that I don’t think about my co-workers or my boss,” she told him with a little shrug.

“I don’t imagine anybody thinks that” Haymitch promised, “You’re very considerate in everything you do”

Wanda blushed a little at that and shrugged. “I try to be. I guess it comes from looking out for my brother Pietro all the time. He’s always running around finding things to do, new sports to try and new injuries to try and get,” she joked over the rim of her mug.

Haymitch chuckled, “I kind of know what you mean. I have a young friend who enjoys the outdoors a lot” he smiled, “Though your brother sounds like he could give her a run for her money. I take it you don’t enjoy sports as much?”

Wanda laughed at that. “I think Pietro could give anyone a run for their money. He runs practically everywhere! I used to joke that I would take a picture when he next sat down so I could prove it actually happened,” she laughed again and shook her head. “I liked some sports, but I preferred my books and lessons,” she told him, smiling fondly. “We both had our...uh...talents?” she stumbled over the last words, frowning as she said it.

“He sounds far too energetic for me” Haymitch joked giving her a real grin to show he was joking, “You sound close though. I think it’s good that you each have different interests and abilities. Do you have any freaky twin sense or is that just identicals?” he asked honestly curious.

“He most definitely is,” Wanda laughed before sobering at his next question and giving a little shrug. “It’s been just us for almost as long as I can remember. We protected each other, helped each other through everything. I don’t know if I told you before, but we were orphaned when we were children. He’s all I’ve ever really known and I guess we do have some kind of ‘twin sense’,” she smiled to herself.

"I don't think it came up" he said, he knew they'd had scholarships but nothing else about their past. "I'm sorry, I'm sure that must have been hard but you're lucky you had each other. It's nice to have someone who always has your back"

“It was difficult for a time, especially in foster care, but we pulled each other through,” Wanda smiled up at him. “He is someone I can always depend on,” she told him confidently.

"I hope you found somewhere good in the end and now you're here with a new life ahead of you" Haymitch wasn't generally a positive person but he was trying to be for her. She was a nice girl.

“We did, once we were old enough, we left care and travelled for a bit. We settled in the United Kingdom for some time and the lady we stayed with sponsored us for our scholarships and here we are,” Wanda grinned happily, spreading her hands wide as if to indicate the office around them.

“Well then it seems I owe that lady a debt of gratitude for bringing you to us” Haymitch said, “And I am positive that you will go very far”

“Thank you Haymitch,” Wanda nodded happily. “I hope so too.”
