Magnus had spent the last couple of days in Taiwan and while it had been nice to see family he hadn't seen in a few years while saying goodbye to his grandmother at the same time, he was glad to finally head home. It had been tricky though, because he'd used a portal to travel to Taiwan and planned on coming home the same way, but he couldn't tell his family that. They didn't know that he was a Warlock now. He'd had to use a glamour on his eyes the entire time he was around his family, because he didn't think they would understand the change.
So after convincing his parents and the rest of his family that he could get to the airport on his own, he'd found a secluded place to open a portal and appeared in his backyard moments later. Because of the time difference, it was late in California and he was looking forward to his own bed.
Letting himself in the back door, he locked it behind him then headed towards his bedroom where he would likely find Alec if his boyfriend was still staying there and hadn't gone back to the Institute.
Alec had no problem with being the one to look after Magnus’ place during his absence. Sure, the Chairman wasn’t as fun to be around but the cat had quickly learned that Alec was his source of food and attention for the days to come. Not that the cat was in need of excessive attention but he made appearances throughout the day.
The Shadowhunter was certainly missing his boyfriend but at least he was in place where he was reminded of Magnus. The man’s scent was definitely on his pillow and that had helped Alec sleep at nights. Tonight was no different. He had found himself hugging the man’s pillow before he fell asleep in his usual attire...which was just underwear. It had taken him some time to fall asleep, but he certainly didn’t hear his boyfriend enter the house.
When Magnus had told Alec he’d be home Friday, he’d forgotten to take into account time zones and that Friday afternoon in Taiwan would still be Thursday night in California so he wasn’t surprised to find Alec sleeping in his bed when he walked into the room. Setting his bag down at the end of the bed, he slipped his shoes off then crawled into bed still fully dressed and wrapped his arms around Alec’s waist, his chin nestled over his shoulder.
Alec stirred slightly at the sound of the bag being set down and even more when he felt someone get into the bed. As he began to open his eyes, he tried to turn but found himself being held by the person who crawled into the bed. It didn’t take him long to realize that it was Magnus and he held onto the man’s arms. “Why are you home a day early?” he asked, sleepily.
A smile spread across Magnus’ lips as Alec spoke. One of the little things that he enjoyed about sharing a bed with Alec was the way his voice sounded when he first woke up, “Technically I’m not. It was Friday when I left Taiwan.” He moved slightly so that he could press a kiss to Alec’s cheek, “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
“Is that so? Cause you crawling up next to me and holding me seems to say otherwise,” Alec pointed out, his voice sounding tired. “You should get more comfortable,” he whispered. “I missed you,” he added.
“I missed you too.” Magnus chuckled and pressed a kiss to Alec’s cheek before he moved to get off the bed, finally noticing Chairman Meow curled up at the end of the bed, “Looks like you’ve had company.” The Chairman hadn’t been too fond of Alec at first, but over the last two years he’d come to like the Shadowhunter, which Magnus was happy about.
Getting to his feet, Magnus removed his jacket and headed to the closet to put it away then undid his belt and removed his jeans his shirt, leaving him in black boxer briefs. He then returned to the bed and crawled under the blankets beside Alec, “Is this better?”
Alec had shifted around so that he could watch his boyfriend. “He was desperate for attention,” Alec replied, softly. “You being gone...he took what he could get.” As if insulted by what he had said, Chairman Meow got up from his spot on the bed and wandered off. “Someone is sensitive,” Alec muttered.
When Magnus got back into the bed, Alec wasted no time in wrapping his arms around the man. “Much better…” He was silent for a moment before asking, “How’s your family?”
“He’ll be back.” Magnus smirked as the Chairman left the room as he got back into bed, wrapping his arms around Alec as well, “They’re alright. Doing as well as can be expected.” He stroked his fingers along Alec’s side, happy to be holding him again. Seeing his family would have been much nicer if it hadn’t been for the reason they’d all been together. “How was your week?”
Alec listened as he watched Magnus speak. It was quite nice to have his boyfriend back, and enjoyed the small touches that Magnus was providing him with. “It was uneventful...but okay…” He had found himself getting pretty bored with Magnus being gone, and it was with everything. Working out, working, reading, watching tv...his thoughts drifted to Magnus and he found himself laying in bed quite frequently.
“Did Izzy come by? I told her not to let you get too mopey.” Magnus’s fingers continued stroking up and down Alec’s side and along the waistband of his underwear. He knew that Alec would miss him while he was gone so he’d made sure to tell Izzy to keep him company if he seemed like he needed it.
“Yeah, she came be…” Alec grumbled. He hated that he ‘needed’ to be checked on, but it was somewhat sweet of them to take the time to be so watchful of him. He let out a breath as he felt the man’s hand on his waistband. “You’d better watch yourself, babe…”
“I’d glad you weren’t alone.” Magnus hadn’t been able to help himself from asking Izzy to check in on Alec while he was gone. He had just wanted to make sure that he wasn’t alone during the week. At the sound of Alec’s exhaled breath, Magnus chuckled again and slid his hand up and over Alec’s back and shoulder until he could card his fingers through the Shadowhunter’s messy hair, “Too early for any of that, huh?” Or late, depending on how some people looked at it, “I suppose anything other than sleep can wait until morning.” Not that he wanted to sleep just yet. He’d spent an entire week away from Alec and wanted to look at him for just a little while longer.
“Just so you know, I am capable of being on my own,” Alec murmured. He didn’t want people thinking that he was always in need of companionship. After, he had moved out to California alone and had spent some time getting by alone. “And it’s more like too late…” Alec had been sleeping and he wanted to get back to it, especially since he knew he’d be more restful with Magnus by his side. “In the morning we can...do other things…” he added.
"I know you can." Magnus nuzzled Alec's neck with his nose, "I just wanted to make sure that you weren't lonely." He chuckled into Alec's neck and lifted his head to look down at him, "Maybe I'll give you a special wake up call then." There was a mischievous glint in his yellow eyes as he spoke.
“We’ll just have to wait and see who wakes up first,” Alec replied. He gave Magnus a soft kiss on the lips and then shifted to the other side so that Magnus could spoon him as they slept tonight. “I’m glad you’re back,” he muttered as he closed his eyes and got comfortable.
Smiling, Magnus wrapped his arms around Alec’s waist as the Shadowhunter turned away from him so Magnus could be the big spoon. After a week of sleeping alone, he was very much looking forward to holding Alec while he slept. “I’m glad I’m back too.” He pressed a kiss to the back of Alec’s dark hair and closed his eyes as he felt the Chairman jump back up onto the bed and begin to make himself comfortable. “I told you he’d be back.”
