Alright, so the dream she'd had Monday night had been enough to unsettle her, considering the Cabal had detonated a biological weapon that targeted Abnormals specifically, sending them into rages directed at humans. Of course Helen and everyone in the Sanctuary had been thrown into overdrive trying to figure out what the Cabal was really up to. And then Ashley's father had shown up, as had James Watson, which only heightened the sense of something really bad was going to happen.
That sense of dread had lingered with her all the previous day to the point of distraction. Ashley just couldn't shake the feeling that something big and something terrible was coming in her dreams. But she didn't have any answers for anyone who potentially asked her if something was wrong. At least none that she wanted to give yet. She'd managed to at least snap out of it, for the most part, when she had to teach, but otherwise she was otherwise distracted by trying to figure out what was going on in her dreams.
Well. Her dreams gave her the answer to that question Tuesday night. Ashley woke up early and sat upright, pressing a hand to her forehead.
"Well, fuck that," she muttered. Sighing and knowing she'd never be able to get back to sleep, she slid out of bed and went to fix herself some coffee. Unlike her mother, she did actually drink coffee, though that tended to be reserved for times when she clearly needed the caffeine boost.
In the dream, all of her sources said that what the Cabal had done was just a dry run. Even worse was that they had three days until the real attack happened. Ashley knew they couldn't let it happen. The chaos would engulf the entire world, not just their own corner of it. Of course, she knew what had to be done, she just hadn't yet brought her idea to her mom. Because she knew it would be met with fierce resistance even if it was the safest option to keep that weapon from detonating. Infiltrating the Cabal headquarters, locating the weapon and either disarming it or taking it back to Sanctuary was the fastest, and possibly the best, option. She wasn't stupid, though. Ashley wasn't going to go in there alone. She'd talked to Henry about infiltrating Cabal, and he'd agreed to go. Even then, Ashley knew her mom wouldn't allow it, so she'd need to give her a very, very good reason for letting her go.
And now that sense of dread hung heavier over her. Funny how she'd wished for another dream to tell her specifics of what was going on so that she could then relax, and her dreams had done the exact opposite when it gave her the answer. Knowing there was a larger attack coming had shot that sense of dread through the roof. If she'd been distracted yesterday, today would probably be worse. Though at least she'd have an answer if one of her friends that knew about the dreams asked. Today she was more willing to talk about it, even if she wasn't sure that would do any amount of good.
Considering she'd had dreams the past two nights after having had a reprieve, Ashley had to wonder if the dreams were gearing up to assault her each night until this thing with the Cabal was done or not. Yet even with the sense of dread, Ashley knew they would be able to stop the Cabal. Her mom was smart and resourceful. Even if the infiltration wouldn't be allowed, there would be some way that they could stop what was happening. After all, James was there, and her father, even if she was still sore about the fact he'd kidnapped her the last time she saw him. But he seemed to actually want to help. So that was something, anyway.
Or so she hoped.
