Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:link, midna

Who: Link and OPEN
Where: Rooftop of Link's Apartment complex
When: July 4th evening.
What: Fireworks, food, and apparently a keg.
Rating: We'll put high here just because who knows who'll show up.
Status: Open | Ongoing

Link's party had come together at way too late a time for him to expect anyone to arrive; though, confirmation from that Midna person had given him cause to believe at least one person might show up. What's more, he'd only been in Orange County a short while, it's not like he knew anyone, or anyone knew him; it's more a long the lines that he just felt the need to light off a few fireworks and to open it up should anyone care to join him.

The optimistic male had gathered a couple of wayward neighbors to help him gather his grill up to the top of the rooftop, and given them each a couple of beers in thanks. They, unfortunately, had their own parties to attend and wouldn't be showing up for his, but he didn't care. He had a bag of fireworks and even if Midna didn't show up, he'd at least get some enjoyment out of the entire situation. A few other neighbors did, slowly, begin to make their way up and mingling occurred, but really Link was waiting for darkness to show up so he could light off some of the better equipment he'd purchased.

His grill was currently on, and a few varieties of meats were on it, cooking up. Dressed in Red, White, and Blue shirt and a pair of cargo shorts, Link looked relatively relaxed by the time people started showing up, happy and content. Though, if he were honest, he'd say it was days like holidays that made him homesick for high school friends, as well as his brothers and sisters. Still, he'd chosen to venture out on his own, and he had no regrets. Yet. Or so he hoped.

That Midna person had promised a keg, and she'd deliver. She showed up too, dressed to the nines - or maybe the black strapless snakeskin dress, ruched and mini, wasn't that exactly, but she still looked damn good. Even if distinctly lacking American fervor. Her makeup was glossy and done to perfect, eyes smudged and slightly feline by the way the streaks of black had been applied - and when she arrived she found a few of those neighbor-folk to help her get the aforementioned keg to the roof, and then she sashayed up herself to join the party.

Mmmm. Smelled like meat up here.

"Hey sweetcheeks, don't you look all festive," she greeted, going to check out what was cooking on the grill. Hopefully hot dogs. Bring on the pig testicles.

Link grinned when she appeared and he blinked several times at the show she was putting on with such a dress. Pushing up from his chair, he hopped to his feet and quickly wiped off his own outfit before shrugging as he looked himself over, "Right, of course. Well, I mean, Happy 'Murica day and all that right? Still, uh, I suddenly feel incredibly under dressed. Granted I really don't own anything more classy than a shirt that buttons, oh and it's collared..."

Still Link finally just moved towards her and offered his hand out towards her, "A pleasure to meet you in person, Midna. Did you want some food? Hot dogs are cooking, some patties, and whatever else people may have brought up. Typical American fanfare and all that. Also you brought the keg, and I was actually thinking you were just joking. A bit."

The 21 year old simply rocked on his feet a bit before shrugging his shoulders, "So, uh, not sure who all is coming... my only real friend in the OC is sort of/kind of out of town. Still, should be a bit of fun... how are you doing? Long day at work or... whatever? Or you probably had it off... Fourth and all that."

Midna shook his hand, scoffing a bit. "I never joke about kegs, Link," she informed him, and aw, he was just so cute. She kind of wanted to pinch his cheeks, both on his face and behind him - just to get him to squirm, because it seemed like fun to her. Instead, she patted that cheek of his (on his face, for now) and took in a deep, satisfying breath of meat-and-smoke scented air.

"I'm all about the hot dogs. They go well with beer. And oh, right, Zelda? Yeah, she texted me earlier. Told me not to break you too much," Midna winked. "Which, okay, cool. I mean, fireworks and shit...don't want you to be too drunk and blowing off limbs."

It'd put a damper on the party if they had to call 911.

Link grinned and turned up a brow, shrugging, "Alright, never joke about a keg. Got it, ground rules being established. All promises will be made on kegs from now on. I promise, on this keg's ability to provide copious amounts of alcohol, to never joke about a keg again..."

Blinking a bit at the pat to his cheek, and then nodded, "Good, plenty of those. Most people seem to be the burger sort so you likely have pick of the wiener litter. I should have gotten brats or sausages, damn it. Anyway, uh... yea... Zeld-- she said what? No.."

Link's hands came up as if to halt the conversation and shook his head quickly, "Oh, absolutely not. Nope. I will not be handled with kid's gloves. Break me all you want, all I have to do tomorrow is shop for instruments. I do not need to be completely on my game for that. As fun as it'll be, I will not let it sacrifice tonight's enjoyment... and if there's not risk of exploding limbs. Is it really 4th of July?"

"Livin' dangerously, then? I like that," Midna chuckled, giving Link a once-over as if seeing him in a new light. She'd just let him handle the wieners and, after finding a cup to hold under the spout of the keg, poured some golden ambrosia (cheap beer goodness) into the container. One for her, and one for Link when he was done literally playing with fire. Then they'd toast to something nice.

She took a large swallow of her beer, most assuredly agreeing with him. "It's not the 4th without the risk..." Said so impishly! With a bat of those volumized lashes. "I'm just glad you really did have a party though, 'cause I got the day off specifically to party. Traded my shift with one of the other girls. The club I work at is having a party too, but this - " Midna gestured with her cup, "...is more low-key and what I need."

Especially after having weird dreams.

"Right?! Risk is always fun, gotta have a bit of risk or you don't feel the thrill of living really. I mean, sort of right? Yea, you get it," Link said as he turned the hot dogs on the grill, before serving up one to her. Handing her a plate, he then managed to acquire his own cup while she fixed up her food the way she liked it.

Filling himself a cup of beer, he took a drink and then let out a breath. Nothing beat a cold beer when it was such a hot day. He was convinced of that. Another drink before looking back towards her, then around at the party and shrugged, "Well I'll be honest, wasn't exactly aiming for low-key, but I'm glad it's worked out that way for you if you needed that. I can understand a desire to wind down after a long day. Oh and, what club do you work with? Have I ever been there? I don't frequent too many clubs really, the music's not exactly my style usually."

Link continued to sip from his own cup, the gold liquid a soothing treat at the end of a hot day. He appreciated it. Not to mention from a cold keg, it was almost perfect.

Ooh, that wiener looked fabulous. Midna took it with a thanks, and she wasn't exactly ladylike - so she basically slathered that puppy with ketchup, mustard, onions, relish, and anything and everything else she could get on it before she took a huge bite. Mmmmm. The sound she made, a happy hum, was one of approval. Score one for Link's grilling skills!

Her other hand, when she wasn't shoving hot dog into her mouth, held her beer and she took another generous sip. "It's more low-key than what would have gone on at the club," Midna explained, after swallowing, when her glossy mouth was free and not stuffed with food or drink. "Because...I kinda work at a strip club. I'm an exotic dancer."

Stripper. Whatever he wanted to call it. She was used to the judging stares and the shock by now - but she didn't let it bother her. It was a good night job, right? Good money. Maybe eventually she'd want to find something else, like bartending at the place that one guy was talking about. That reminded her to go in and officially drop off a résumé...

"Oh!" As if she suddenly remembered. "Let's toast." Midna held up her cup, grandly. "To risks? And taking them?"

Link would happily admit that he was a fantastic cook; you grow up with enough brothers and sisters, especially in a foster home where a bunch of them were younger, you learned how to cook and you learned how to cook well so everyone could be happy. Was he a world class chef good? No. He could cook comfort food though, which helped with the diner. Should he ever get back to that.

Taking a drink slowly, he raised a brow at the mention of her club and then nodded his head as he thought on about it. He furrowed his bows, staring ahead, thinking for a moment. Not the fact that she worked at a strip club, or was a dancer; it did surprise him, of course, but only because he'd never actually met someone who did that for work. It wasn't something he expected, but he hardly judged. Link was a foster kid who learned that his parents were murdered in two separate cities. He didn't have room to judge, they all had experiences.

Instead, his thoughts on what exactly a strip club's 4th of July celebration might be. A sip to his beer, looking back at her, "So was the party at the club for staff only, or for customers? For fear of sounding dumb, but if it involved customers--that'd be indoors right? No fireworks. And if a staff party, why would it be any more higher key? Other than probably more people..." Noting the people located there currently.

"And yes!" Grabbing up his beer he held it out towards her and tapped against her own, "To risks, and to taking them."

"To risks, and taking them!" Midna echoed, and clanked her cup against Link's. Then she began gulping the beer, and just about finished it all in one go - which led her to fill up again, at the keg, in need of more fuel. His question made her giggle impishly for some reason - she hadn't expected him to want to know the details. Most people just acted like it was no big deal she was a stripper, but they were really judging. He didn't seem to be judging, at least, so she would give him props.

Once she had her next beer, she licked her lips, sloshing the ambrosia in its cup. "It was a wristband thing - you know, pay 20 bucks at the door and get all-you-can-drink domestic beers for the night," she explained. "It's like technically 14 hours of straight drinking if you come when the club opens and stay 'til close, plus with a military ID it's only 10 bucks. Private shows in the back rooms were also discounted, so..."

The fully nude ones. She'd be working her ass off for those drunk soldiers if she'd been there. It'd just be really rowdy, hence why this was much lower key.

"And at 11 there was supposed to be a bikini bull riding contest. Next time we have the bull though, you oughta come by," she teased. "It's fun."

"Wow, sounds like one hell of a party. That'd suck, you'd probably make a ton of tips too. That'd be cool, but god it'd be busy and packed and... wow. Still, you wouldn't get to see any fireworks, and really. Don't you want to see some fireworks on the 4th?" Link shrugged before finishing his own beer to refill his cup as well.

"I really should. I'll make sure to wear a bikini and everything. I don't have many assets a bikini would help show off, but I think I could take you all on. Probably get at least 12 dollars in tips. At least. Right? Give me your best guess, on a regular not-lady's night night... how many am I getting thrown?"

Link was serious too, curious now because damn it he wanted to ride that bull. He imagined he could pull it off too. Drinking out of his cup now, he went back to the grill and pulled off more hot dogs and burgers to set on plates near by. Should anyone want to buffet them for a moment. Setting himself up his own burger before turning back towards her, "You have to let me know when the bull's there next though. I'll do it. I've always wanted to do a mechanical bull."

"You've always wanted to do a mechanical bull?" This made Midna snort, an unexpected remark from Link earned an unexpected laugh, and she nearly spewed beer everywhere. "I mean, sounds kinda kinky? But if you like that, well..."

She was just jerking his chain, really. Mostly. Maybe she liked giving him shit for some reason. It was ingrained within her, and went deep within her blood and bone marrow, you see.

Still, she cut him a break. "Okay," she finally got ahold of herself, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. "I will definitely let you know. Because I really want to see you as a bucking bronco, gotta say. Especially for tips. I wager you'd get..." Her dark brown eyes narrowed in teasing speculation. "12.50."

Link stopped halfway through his drink and looked at her, eyeing her a bit and then gave her an upturned brow, "See? Now why do you have to go and make it weird like that? Because, I meant ride it-- that didn't help. Okay, well, let it be known that Link wants to do a mechanical bull. And listen, to each their own right?"

He grinned still and drank from his cup and then as she began to judge him he held his arms out to let her get the full breadth, sizing himself up and down, then looking at her. At her comment he thought about it, "Well the fact you went higher than my previous conceived rating, I'm going to go ahead and call it a win. That's enough for at least one big pack of beer and a small six pack of good beer. I can manage this."

"Wait, can you tip a stripper 50 cents? How does that work? Where the heck do you put the quar--nope, nope. Nope."
