The dreams were definitely a curse and not a blessing. To be presented with another life playing out for you like a damn television show and to not be able to change a thing was truly torture. Meg had been having the dreams for a while, now, and she’d gone from being mildly curious about them to dreading them. She didn’t even go through the worst of it in her dreams. That honor went to Christine. She looked different in the dreams than she did in real life, but it was unmistakably Christine. The beautiful voice, the big, compassionate heart... Everything that really mattered was the same. It made it even more terrible to watch the Phantom torment her.
Meg had an early shift that day, so she was home before Christine. She sat on the couch. An early start at work combined with rehearsals for Giselle meant that Meg was ready for a little relaxation. She had a plan, though. When Christine came home she would ask if she wanted to talk about the dreams. Meg imagined that if she hated the dreams then Christine must have absolutely loathed them. That was her reasoning, though she supposed she could be wrong. People did have a knack for surprising her now and then.
When she heard the sound of a key in the door, Meg sat up a little straighter and set her mug on a coaster on the table. It was Christine. In her head she was trying to figure out the best way to initiate the conversation, but nothing was coming to her. She’d figure it out eventually.
