The club was decked out in silver, blue and white for the Winter Wonderland themed New Year's Eve celebration. The DJ was playing a good selection of music and people were busy getting drunk and having a wonderful time with friends. And that was her intention, to create a fun safe place for people to ring in the New Year.

It's funny how everything in the world seems to stop whenever the one person we can't stop thinking about is suddenly standing there, looking more beautiful than we remember. Peter's breath felt like it was caught in his throat when he saw Lucy, her smooth tendrils hanging at her slim shoulders, hair he wanted to sift his fingers in.

He cleared his throat and stepped close to her, his arms going around her. She was his friend, hugs were permitted, he hoped. "It does, doesn't it?" he said as he pulled away, his hand slipping into her dainty one. He moved far enough away to have a good look at her while still keeping her hand in his. "You look beautiful," he said. For his part, Peter hadn't dressed up very much. He'd just thrown a blazer on over his regular shirt and jeans, and now he felt downright under dressed.

Hugs were definitely permitted and she grinned as she returned the embrace blushing a little as his hand took hers and he complimented her, "Thank you. I thought I might as well dress up, I don't do it very often" Lucy wasn't really a girly girl, she was much comfier in her jeans but sometimes the occasion called for it.

"So how have you been?" she asked him, pleased beyond belief that she'd ran into him. This night was going to be much better now.

	When she blushed, it only endeared Peter all the more. He offered her his elbow as any proper gentleman (or prince) should. "I've been well," he answered. "I've had a few more dreams, but other than that, everything is status quo." He gave her a broader smile and ran the pad of his thumb along the blush that dashed along her cheek. Lucy hated the fact that she blushed so easily but unlike her sister Susan she wasn't used to male attention. She took his elbow as she listened, blush deepening when he ran his finger on her cheek, "I've just been enjoying being lazy" she said honestly, "I don't return to work until next week. But I've had more dreams too. Have yours been better this time?" she asked knowing his were not very pleasant.

	"I'm not sure," Peter replied. "When they left off, my mother was having my brother." The thing was, he thought she might not survive the birth, so he added, "But let's not talk about all of that right now. Any resolutions for the new year?" That was a better change of subject. 	Nodding Lucy got the impression the dreams weren't a happy subject right then so allowed him to change the subject. "I think," said Peter as they reached the punch bowl. Here, he let go of her arm so he could pour her a glass of punch before he continued, "that resolutions mean turning over a new leaf. The trouble with that is, you always have the old leaf underneath. Do you want anything in this?"

Peter wagged his brows at Lucy and dipped into his pocket for the tiny bottle of Dorothy Parker gin. It was New Years, it was always a good time to drink.

Truth told, Peter was surprised that Lucy readily agreed to a little something in her punch. She didn't strike him as much of a drinker, but he gladly poured a few drops into her glass before he handed it to her and made his own.

Once the gin bottle was empty, he tossed it in a nearby garbage can, then raised his little plastic cup. "To making our leafs a little more manageable," he toasted.

	Lucy wasn't a massive drinker but growing up in the UK it wasn't such a big deal there. She'd grown up having wine with dinner and from age 16 she'd drank with friends, never too much but she could handle a small amount. Peter took his own drink. There wasn't much there so it was gone in a few swallows. He watched Lucy over the rim of the cup the whole time. When it was gone, he breathed out with an "Ahh, that was good stuff." It burned a little going down his throat to his stomach. It wouldn't be his last drink of the night, but it was a start.

He tossed the cup, then offered to take Lucy's as well, if she was finished with it. "Do you want to dance?" he asked.

	It was good, though she was glad he'd put less in her cup than his own.She had a feeling it was rather potent. She finished it and handed over the cup so he could throw it away. "As long as you promise not to mind if I tread on your feet" she grinned at him, she wasn't that bad but dancing wasn't really something she did in public all that often. "Well, usually I would," Peter teased lightly, offering his arm to Lucy again, "but for you, I'll make an exception." With that, he led her out to the dance floor. Currently, a slower song was playing which was fine by Peter. He enjoyed dancing, but faster dancing always felt a little strange to him when dancing with someone else, especially when he just wanted to feel that someone close to him.

Unsure if she was a more formal dancer or not, Peter's hands slipped down to Lucy's waist, one of them moving gently to the small of her back to pull her closer, the feel of the material of her dress a bit of a thrill under his hands. She felt good there and he hoped she wanted to be there against him, too. "Alright?" he asked.

	She smiled as he led her to the dance floor and found she too was glad there was a slower song playing. It was far less embarrassing than trying to dance to something more pop orientated. 	Peter didn't know if Lucy was here with someone or not. She could have just been passing time with him, waiting for someone else to show up, but Peter didn't think so. Not with the way she was looking at him. "Tell me more about you, Lucy girl," he said, feeling sweet from the booze that had been in his punch. "I want to know about you. Do you like what you do?" Lucy wasn't here with anybody at all and she was assuming Peter wasn't either, she hoped he would have told her if there was anybody special in his life. And if she was honest she might be hoping for him to seek her out closer to midnight but she didn't let herself think about that too much.

"I do" Lucy smiled, "It's not what I expected, I'd never considered being a personal assistant but it's good fun. And Harry is a pretty good boss"

Cheeky and adorable, or at least Peter thought so. As they danced, Peter's hand idly slid along Lucy's back, slowly, just enjoying the feel of her. Sometimes, he felt her warm, smooth skin. "Good," he said, "that's good, to know business. I know a little about it, but not much, just that I work for one and have to make them money. Too bad things aren't a little more like my dreams."

	"I can't say it's something I've ever really wanted to know much about but it's fairly interesting. Her smile was beautiful. Peter found himself rendered a little speechless from it for a moment. When he found his voice again, he felt a little foolish, but spoke anyway. "I'm not sure if I like my dreams or not," he said, "Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I'd like some of the things in them to be real, though." Peter glanced at the clock. It was nearing midnight and, for some reason, he was feeling a bit nervous. Nervous because he knew just who it was he wanted his lips on at the stroke of New Year's Even, but he wasn't sure it would appreciated. Nonetheless, he stuck close.

Lucy followed his gaze and felt her heart jump a little when she saw the time. She very much wanted to kiss him and took comfort that it looked like he wanted it too. The closer it crept, the more nervous Peter got. He wished it would slow down, but at the same time, he wanted it to speed up. For the duration of the song, Peter danced in silence. He'd only been making chit-chat to fill the space that was somehow not even empty. As they moved, Peter looked at Lucy, and when the countdown began, he counted with the rest of the crowd.

He didn't shout the numbers, he just said them, until the zero mark was hit. He felt adrenaline move through him as he raised his hand to the back of Lucy's neck. Streamers and confetti fell in her hair and people were singing around them, but Peter leaned in, his head tipped slightly to the side and he kissed Lucy there on the dance floor, knowing his breath had alcohol on it.

It was strange how the silence between them didn't feel awkward as they danced. It gave Lucy time to just enjoy the feel of them moving together to the music and of his body pressed against hers. It wasn't something she'd properly experienced before.

When the countdown started she mouthed the numbers but didn't speak. Then when it hit zero and his lips pressed against hers she closed her eyes and let her instincts guide her.

	Peter's plan was to kiss her briefly, but as soon as she reciprocated, he only deepened the kiss more. Lucy's hair fell between his knuckles as he kissed her, his other hand against the curve of her back. When he broke it, he let his forehead rest against hers. "Happy New Year," he exhaled.
