The club was decked out in silver, blue and white for the Winter Wonderland themed New Year's Eve celebration. The DJ was playing a good selection of music and people were busy getting drunk and having a wonderful time with friends. And that was her intention, to create a fun safe place for people to ring in the New Year.

Quentin felt the eyes on him, but didn't turn. Situations like this made him feel a little uncomfortable. Not necessarly in a bad way, Quentin was simply unused to being the center of attention in social situations.

Once his glass was set on the bar in front of him, he finally turned to acknowledge the man who had given him some space. His face was vaguely familiar. "Happy New Year."

"Not if you don't want to," Theodore replied, and flashed a brief smile. He wasn't particularly interested in telling Quentin what he did, in case he was recognized, so he hoped that asking a few following up questions would distract him.

"I don't think I've ever met a Religious Studies professor before," he offered, between sips of champagne. "What sorts of classes do you teach? Lectures about different religions, or something?

"Ah, so yours will remain mysterious." Quentin didn't mind. He couldn't stop the little smirk from lingering on the corner of his mouth, amused at the other man.

"Comparative lectures, yes. There are similarities between most big religions, and quite a few of the smaller ones. In most of my classes we keep it vague, don't delve too deep. Just a sampling about what other people believe in." Quentin explained. "It fulfills some General Education requirements for my students."

Theodore nodded. "I sort of...lucked into a profession that pays me well enough without needing it. I've thought about pursuing something online, because with my career, taking time off to go to school would be difficult to say the least." He fidgeted a little with the stem of his champagne flute. "Education was important to my parents. They were...disappointed with my choice."

"Consider yourself lucky then." Quentin responded. A position that paid well without needing it? That sounded ideal. Though Quentin had a bug--an itch, really. He had to learn. And the formal setting of a school was the most comfortable to him. He'd spent so much of his life struggling through and thriving in the world of academia. He wasn't sure what else he'd do. Hence landing where he did at UCI.

"I'm sorry about that." He knew about struggles with parents. "Hopefully they'll come to support you and at least understand it, even if they don't agree with it."
