Myrcella liked Anna, she was bubbly and fun and she let Myrcella give her makeovers which for the aspiring beauty therapist was a dream come true. She had friends here but none like she had back home. Irisa wasn’t really into all the girly things Myrcella enjoyed and poor Jeremy would probably let her do what she liked but she’d feel terrible for it. So Anna was a godsend.
Today they’d decided to go to the movies later and Myrcella had told Anna she’d show her how to use make up for a natural day look. Standing on the doorstep she knocked and stepped back with a smile.
Anna answered the door. She was freshly showered, per Myrcella’s instructions, with her hair braided back. She’d been packing up some things when her friend knocked, so it took her a moment to open the door. She smiled brightly. “Hey! Come on in. Let me just finish putting these socks into a box.”
“Hi” Myrcella greeted happily, “Oh sure. So umm why are you putting socks in a box?” she asked curiously, it sounded like a very random thing to do.
“Oh. I found an apartment.” Anna said, breaking into a huge grin. “My sister and my boyfriend helped, and I found a place. I’ll be moving on September first. And then I have to think about if I’m getting a job or not before school starts.”
“Oh Anna that’s amazing!” Myrcella exclaimed with a smile, “If you need any help let me know I can lift boxes with the best of them and I’m sure I can convince Jeremy to help” Myrcella was technically living on her own now since her Uncle and Loras had decided the OC just held too many memories for them to be able to start over comfortably. They’d left her the house and when she turned 18 at the end of the month Renly was planning on changing the papers so she owned it officially.
“That’d be wonderful!” Anna responded, still grinning. “I’ll probably enlist the help of all my friends the day of. Pizza party for helping me to move boxes and furniture… I’ve already asked Stiles to help. And I’m sure Peeta will be there.”
“We’ll have you moved in no time I’m sure” Myrcella said smiling, “And I could help you look for a job if you like. I have two right now” she added with a wry smile.
“Oh, yes,” Anna said, nodding. “I think I’m going to need one of those. I mean,” she didn’t need the money. But she wanted to make a home for herself. Give herself something to do, someone to be. “I don’t know what kind of a job I’m looking for, even. But I know I need to find one.” She led the way into the bedroom where she was packing things up. She had plenty of time until September first, but she was excited and wanted to have everything done right.
Myrcella was similar in that she didn’t really need a job but she wanted one. And had ended up with two. “I wasn’t sure either, I mean I got talking to Tessa who runs a bookshop and she mentioned needing someone over the summer holidays. I’m hoping she’ll be able to keep me on at weekends when I go to college too. So maybe you just need to talk to a few people, I mean evening or weekend stuff should fit in right?”
“Maybe I should make a post on Valarnet,” Anna said, moving into the bedroom to continue packing. She continued putting socks into the box until those were finished. “All right. You were going to give me a makeover?” She asked, grinning.
“Oh that’s a good idea. People are really friendly on there. It’s a pretty nice environment” Myrcella said with a smile, “Yep I am indeed. I have everything we need” she grinned holding up her bag.
“Okay.” Anna closed up the box, and then turned to her friend. “I’m ready. Face freshly washed, as per your instructions.” She was smiling warmly, excited to spend time with a friend. “How are you gonna do me up?”
Myrcella smiled, “I thought today we could do a natural everyday look” she said moving to place her make up bag on a table. “So nothing heavy or anything, just something that will accentuate your natural beauty”
Anna nodded, moving to sit down on the edge of the bed. “Okay. That sounds like me.” She laughed, “naturally beautiful.” Then she lifted her hands to brush her bangs off of her forehead.
“You are you know” Myrcella said as she took the foundation and dusted it lightly over Anna’s face, “You have a wonderful bone structure and your eyes are striking Anna”
Anna went very, very pink. She smiled shyly. “Thank you. I don’t… I dunno, I don’t think about it all that often. I’m just me. I’m not anything special.” Peeta seemed to like her. But he was the only guy who ever had.
“I think it’s good not to think about it too much. Too many girls do. The ones you see covered in make up? Like horribly applied stuff, they want you to think they’re beautiful but they’re so insecure they use too many cosmetics and it makes them ugly. All we’re going to do here is a light touch here and there to show off what you already naturally have” Myrcella herself knew she was pretty but so were many girls. It had never really gone to her head. Thankfully.
Anna nodded. She wasn’t sure what she naturally had, but she listened and paid attention. Myrcella obviously knew what she was talking about. Anna had a lot to learn, and she was a very good student.
Myrcella had studied a lot about hair and makeup and of course she’d been going to spa days with her mother for years back home. It was something she held an interest in, which was good since it was her future career. “Okay so with a natural day look we don’t use eyeliner or really much eyeshadow. We will do a small touch of blusher and mascara though”
“Okay. Where do you put the blush? On the cheeks?” Anna asked, making a vague, circular motion with her index finger around her cheeks on either side.
Nodding Myrcella pulled out the blush and used her little finger to show Anna where the makeup would go, “Along the cheekbones, very light use. You don’t need much at all” she advised.
“Okay. Do you want to do it first? To show me how it’s done?” Anna asked, shifting on the bed. She wondered if they should move to the mirror. “Or do you want me to try?”
“I can show you on one side if you like and then you can try on the other?” she suggested, “Over here would be better then you can see what I’m doing” she gestured to the mirror.
“Oooh, okay.” Anna said, excited that she was going to learn something new. Hopefully Peeta would like her with a little makeup on. She moved with Myrcella to the mirror, and then sat down at the chair in front of her vanity. “I’m all ears. Or cheeks, as it were.”
Myrcella smiled as she moved behind Anna, “Now you’ll need to bear with me because I’ve never taught anybody properly before” she said, picking up the little blush palette and brush. She lightly applied the makeup talking Anna through it all, what it was, how to apply and what technique to use.
Anna chuckled, then nodded. She listened carefully, and did her best to imitate. When they were finished with her makeup, she’d learned how to apply it properly, and not to put too much on. She thought she looked absolutely beautiful, and gave Myrcella a big, huge hug. “It’s wonderful! Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. You did so well!” Myrcella praised her as she returned the hug. “Honestly you picked everything up well. I’m going to leave these samples here for you but we should go makeup shopping soon” she suggested.
"Ooh, I'd love that!" Anna said, beaming. "Let's plan for that soon. Maybe after I've moved into my new place?"
“Perfect” Myrcella agreed, “Now, let’s pack some of these boxes right? Then I’m going to treat us to a well deserved lunch. Unless you have other plans?” she checked belatedly.
“Nope! No other plans!” Anna nearly squeaked with delight. Having someone over, doing makeup, eating lunch with a friend… it was perfection to her. And sharing in the packing duties? That was even better. Icing on the cake. “Let’s get started!”
