That pretty much confirmed the single dad theory. Daisy seemed to be over the moon about her mom's new furniture though, which was probably a good thing? She was young, still. Maybe the nuances of 'divorce' rolled off the backs of some kids, like raindrops off a duck's feathers. Some had a difficult time with it. Neal sort of took his own parents separation in stride - he had to. One day he woke up and his mother was gone, and he didn't get an explanation until years later after his father disappeared too.

"Nice to meet you. That's rough, the whole...half time thing," he said, tone sympathetic. "Where do you guys live? I'm around Santa Ana myself."

"It's... new." Severus responded. "Not far from here," he added, but then Daisy cut him off.

"We walked here today!" She exclaimed. "And I got to push the stroller!"

"You pushed the stroller?" Neal was as thrilled for Daisy as she was for her own self! "That's awesome." He'd have given her a high five but she was focused on the happiest of happy meals, and he dunked a nugget into the crack sauce. "You like being a big sister, huh?"

The kids seemed pretty jovial. As for Sev, he obviously was more affected by the divorce. It was wearing on him, anyone could see that - but divorce was one of the most stressful life events anyone could go through, so Neal could understand. He wished he could help more, but didn't want to be some random stranger kind of just...barging in.

"I'm the best big sister in the world!" Daisy chirped. The word 'world' sounded more like 'woohrd.' She took a moment off speaking so she could drink apple juice from her juice box.

"Daisy's very proud of her baby brother," Severus chimed in. He was thankful that someone was distracting her. It was going to be difficult to get Daisy to anything otherwise. The playground was too alluring, and Daisy couldn't very well eat inside the structure. That, and it was nice to have someone nearby. Normally Severus wasn't social, but he found he needed other people around more and more now that Romana was gone.

Proud of her baby brother? That kid was too cute. She was like a little burst of rainbows and sunshine, how could anyone stand it? Or say no to the little face? If Neal ever had a daughter, he'd be the first one to be wrapped around her tiny finger. "I bet you are," he grinned. "Hey, so do you like dogs? I was planning on picking one from the shelter since I just moved here, and it's only me in my apartment. What's your favorite kind?"

Just not one of those little fluffy ones that yipped all the time and were so tiny, old ladies or socialites fit them into their purses and carted them around that way.

Daisy was, quite possibly, the cutest little girl on the planet. Funny, how she came from such dark and reserved parents.

"I like Pongo!" Daisy responded. "Pongo Pongo Pongo!" She was bouncing in her seat with each repetition of the word.

Severus was struggling with David now, putting all of the things on the table just outside of his reach. Though, the baby was getting fed up with this action and was likely about to burst into tears.

"Yes, Pongo," Severus said, finally. "The Dalmation."

"Oh, right, yeah...Pongo," Neal had to picture it, since it'd been awhile since he'd seen 101 Dalmations. He imagined that owning one was a popular thing after the movie came out (the multiple versions of it) and then sort of fell off the wayside after the hype died down. Cruella de Vil wearing a coat of the furs? Scary stuff. "Yeah, I can see why you like Pongo. He's a pretty awesome dog."

The last nugget had been consumed, and would settle like a brick in the pit of Neal's stomach. Seriously, he knew what was in these things and yet he wanted to pretend he didn't - the sheer amount of chemicals would depress anyone, but how could something so bad for you taste so good? Sigh. "I better get going, but maybe when I rescue my new best friend, I'll introduce you," he said to the bouncy girl. "I'm on the Valar network," Neal added for the benefit of Severus. "Just look me up, if you want." He grinned at the blob with eyes, babies were so roly-poly and fat at that age (it was kind of adorable), and tickled him in the belly to get him to scrunch his face and laugh. No tears!

"He's the best dog. Him and Lucky." Daisy said. "Lucky is the one with black ears and a black circle over his eye," she added, for clarification. Because that part was very important. Then she bit into her hamburger with finality.

Severus chuckled. "Seems everyone's on Valarnet lately. I'm there, too." He nodded once, giving the man a silent 'thank you.' This quasi-single-parenting thing was difficult at the best of times. "Hopefully we'll see you again soon."

David gave a little squeal of laughter, reaching chubby hands for Neal's fingers. He wanted to get one of them into his mouth, though he was still not quite sure how to.

Daisy started to sing a chorus of a goodbye song of her own design.
