The day was finally here. The day when Jem would be moving back into Jubilee’s condo, but this time as the owner. Not only that, but Will would be moving in with him. Jem was still worried about his feelings for both Will and Tessa and he prayed that this wouldn’t be a mistake. In the dreams, it was against the rules of the Clave to have feelings for one’s Parabatai, but they weren’t in that world now, but even so, Jem doubted that Will felt the same way about him, so he had resigned himself to keep those feelings to himself and perhaps in time, he would get over them.
Jem hadn’t had much to move over to the condo, more or less the same things that he’d taken from it after he’d moved into the little one bedroom apartment he’d been living in for the last couple of months. The fact that he’d lived there briefly before made the transition easier for Church and the moment he’d let him out of his carrier, he’d gone straight to the bedroom Jem had had when he’d lived there before despite the fact that now Jem would be sleeping in the larger bedroom, which had been his cousin’s.
Will was looking forward to moving in with Jem, he’d enjoyed living alone to begin with but then he’d begun to get bored and restless. He was a fairly social guy so being so isolated wasn’t good for him, especially when those first dreams had hit. He felt so sorry for his dream self, cutting himself off like that from everybody because of a curse that wasn’t true.
But then Jem, his best friend and the boy who he now felt like he’d known all his life, had come sailing in with a wonderful idea. Will had jumped at the chance, it had been perfect timing too since Will’s rent period was coming to an end. He’d rented the place furnished so the only belongings he had were the things he’d brought. One large suitcase and a few bags, he’d loaded himself up and now stood in front of the address he’d been given. Knocking on the door he entered, “Jem? You here?”
Jem had left the door unlocked, knowing that Will would be coming at some time that afternoon and he had figured it’d be easier for Will to let himself in, in case Jem was busy unpacking and couldn’t get to the door. “I’m in the kitchen.” He called at the sound of Will’s voice. He had decided to start unpacking the plates and glasses and utensils and various other kitchen items first.
Dumping his bags and stretching his arms and legs he wandered into the kitchen, “Hey roomie” Will grinned, “Already hard at it I see” He’d told Jem he’d help unpack everything and move whatever he needed but it seemed he’d already been at it for a while. Part of Will worried he might over do it but he was here now and would keep an eye on his friend.
Jem smiled as Will walked into the kitchen and he turned away from what he’d been doing, “I figured it was best to get these things unpacked now so it’ll be easier to eat dinner tonight.” Not that they were going to be cooking or anything like that that evening, but even if they got take out, it’d just make things much easier, “Did you find the place alright?” Jem had wanted to show Will the condo before they actually moved in, but with his cousin coming back and Laura and Cass packing their own stuff, there hadn’t been a chance to do that, “I should show you around so you can choose a bedroom.”
"Good plan" Will agreed, it would definitely make take out eating easier if they knew where cutlery and cups were. "Yep, no trouble at all actually" he smiled, "Your directions were great" Will didn't mind not seeing it first, he trusted Jem. "Sure, unless you want me to help you unpack the kitchen first?" he offered.
Jem smiled, glad that his directions had been easy to follow, “The unpacking can wait for a few minutes,” He gestured for Will to follow him and he headed into the living room, which was much bigger than the one he’d had at his previous apartment then through to the first bedroom, which he had claimed and had been his cousin’s when she lived there and the largest of the three, “I hope you don’t mind, I’ve already decided on this room.” There wasn’t much in the room aside from the bed and dresser and Jem’s suitcases.
Will followed, his own place hadn't been small but this was really nice. Roomy without feeling too big, they'd have fun here he just knew it. "Don't mind at all, it's your place after all" Will said with an easy shrug and a smile. "It's a great place Jem" he added warmly.
“It’s your place too, Will.” Jem smiled back, his pulse rising slightly as Will smiled at him. He would need to get that under control now that they were going to be around each other more. He couldn’t let his feelings get the better of him, “Let me show you the other two bedrooms so you can choose yours.” He turned and led the way to the other two bedrooms, one of which had been his when he’d first moved to Orange County and had been living with Jubilee. This was the room where Church was currently stretched out on the bed.
Will smiled at that, "Our place then. We have a great place" he amended, slinging an arm around Jem in an almost but not quite hug. When they got to the first room Will chuckled, "I think this room has been claimed" he smirked.
Will’s arm around him didn’t help very much with his attempt to get himself under control, but he did his best not to blush too much. As they reached the other bedroom, Jem laughed and ducked out from under Will’s arm to step into the room and lift the cat from the bed, “This had been my room when I first moved to the states. I think Church must remember that. He’ll have to get used to my new room.” He scratched the cat’s head and he began purring.
Will felt a touch of envy as the cat enjoyed Jem's attention before he scolded himself, honestly he needed to stop this. Jem was his parabatai and he shouldn't feel anything else for him. "Ah I see. So is he likely to grump at me if I take this room and he realises I'm not you when he comes for cuddles?" Will grinned.
“No, I don’t think so. Not once he figures out that I’m in a different room.” Jem said, walking back towards Will, Church still in his arms. “Then again, he has a tendency to like only me, so we’ll see how he does around you on a regular basis.” Of course he hoped that Church would would get along well enough with Will.
"Well lets hope he does warm up to me then since I'm gonna be around for a long time" Will grinned, "I'm sure I can charm him, I've never failed to win someone over so far"
Jem could have agreed with that comment, but he didn’t want Will to question what he meant by his response so Jem simply smiled and nodded, “I’m sure you will.” Setting Church down on the floor, he watched as the cat wandered out of the room to relearn the condo then Jem turned back to Will, “Well, I should let you unpack. I still have a few things to unpack in the kitchen.” Jem was glad that Will was there now and hoped that he’d be able to keep his feelings in check around him.
Will nodded, "My stuff won't take long then I'll help you in the kitchen, we can get take out as a reward for all our hard work too" he grinned his winning grin.
