I'd like to meet you for a little training exercise.
It was nearing noon when Kitty met Scott. They were miles from the road, and even farther from any prying eyes. She wasn't sure why she'd agreed to meet him. Maybe it was the promise of his words, or the way it was difficult to resist the urge to disobey them. She found herself standing about twenty paces from the man. The sun glinting off the ruby lenses of his glasses sent a shiver down her spine. Like despite everything it was that subtle reminder that made everything seem so much more real.
Kitty moved first, closing the distance rapidly and springing through the air, using Scott's shoulders for leverage. He was quick to react, not allowing himself to be thrown off balance and instead grappling for her. The two locked for a moment before Kitty broke free, spinning around. She didn't trust herself not to get stuck into his body, and so wasn't using her powers yet. She wondered if he had his.
Her question was answered when Scott took his glasses off. The night before had been an intense series of dreams that had left him drenched in sweat and his head pounding. The glasses had proven invaluable. Now he was hoping an intense series of usage would turn his eyes back off.
A red beam shot across the landscape. Kitty dodged and weaved as Scott followed her with his eyes. Twice her body phased the beam through and the third time it clipped her and sent her sprawling. She was on her feet in a flash and weaved towards him. She had to close the distance, where she could do some damage.
Scott kept moving back, not letting her get close. He used his glasses to reflect the beam at an angle, catching Kitty by surprise and buying him some more time. The beam had been getting progressively weaker, whatever had gotten stuck 'on' in his head diminishing over time.
Kitty lept in, knocking the glasses away, and the two exchanged blows and grapples for several minutes. Kitty was impressed by Scott's prowess, and Scott by Kitty's skill. By the time the beams had flickered out, the two stood leaning on each other, panting for breath.
"Draw?"
"Draw."
Kitty smiled tiredly, "I think you owe me a drink. That was almost as fun as the danger room."
"Only with less buzzsaws."
"Maybe we should build one." Kitty flashed him a grin.
"Not a bad idea, if you think about it."
"You're the one banging the rich woman," She pointed out, helpfully.
"Yes, I'll bring that up later. 'Ems, we should build a danger room, it'll keep Kitty entertained.' Ow." Scott rubbed his arm where Kitty had punched him, "Okay. Lets get that drink."
