Who: Zuko and Draco When: Valentine’s Day Where: Their place What: Valentine’s Day Rating/Warning: Low Status: Complete
Draco and Zuko had agreed on a quiet Valentine’s day at home. Draco had ordered food from their favorite restaurant and they were now settled on the sofa, snuggling and watching a movie. It was kind of perfect, apart from the question he’d been asked earlier that week which had been bouncing around his head. Today was probably not the day to bring it up so he tried to push it away.
His arms were wrapped around Zuko and his fingers were stroking absently while his head rested on top of his husbands.
Unfortunately for Draco, Zuko was like some sort of psychic in terms of knowing when his husband had something on his mind. That, plus a distinct lack of tact, had Zuko squirming a little in their sort of arranged seating. "Die Hard isn't that thought provoking," he pointed out, in half questioning.
“I happen to think that Bruce Willis in his singlet trying to save everybody is very thought provoking” Draco replied amusement in his tone as he smiled at his husband.
“You would happen to be wrong,” Zuko said, not quite prim, but definitely amused. He squirmed a bit until he was sitting up straighter and frowned at the television for a while as if trying to decide if Bruce Willis was worth that much thought. Zuko did suppose he wasn’t sure how anyone sweated that much.
That caused Draco to laugh, "Okay, maybe I am wrong" he relented leaning forward to grab his wine glass from the table dropping a kiss to Zuko's shoulder as he did.
“It’s been known to happen,” Zuko agreed dryly, grabbing his own wine before they were so tangled again that he’d be unable to. “So if it wasn’t Bruce…?”
“Very rarely” was the quick reply before he shrugged, “Just something somebody asked me the other day. About having a family. And whether we were going to or not” he said as casually as possible.
Yeah, even casual didn't really make Zuko pause on that question any less. He couldn't even think to get any more parting shots into their little false argument.
"What?" He asked, as if just a little more clarification might make that sort of conversation easier or any less strange. "… We are a family." Him and Draco. And they had Pansy too. And maybe Zuko's little sister if she could be tolerated for the moment.
“Of course we’re already a family” Draco said before explaining, “But they meant like...kids. If we’re planning of having any in the future and I guess I was kind of stumped by it”
Zuko had known what he'd meant, he wasn't exactly poor at context clues. It just wasn't something he wanted to think on really. He sniffed slightly and shrugged. "You don't have to have a good answer. We're twenty." No one needed to know stuff like that at their age.
"Who even asked you that?"
“I guess” Draco agreed, “Just hard to get it out of my head, you know?” He sighed, “Oh just one of the girls at the record company. We got chatting and she asked, her sister had just had her first kid” he added so Zuko knew it hadn’t just been a random out of the blue question.
“Huh,” Zuko said, as if he was trying to wrap his mind around the topic now as well. It wasn’t going over very well. “Huh,” he repeated. And then he shook his head. “Nope. I’m twenty. I can’t even legally purchase liquor in this country. Not thinking about it.”
That made Draco chuckle and he pulled Zuko against him and kissed his neck, “Love you” he said simply, “Sorry. I’ll try and not think about it too” he promised, though he wasn’t sure how successful he’d be. Why did that woman have to bring it up?
Because women were weird and confusing. At least, that was Zuko's thought on the matter.
"Don't worry about it. You shouldn't be sorry." Zuko shifted a little closer, so he could rest his chin on Draco's shoulder. "Now shh, I think Bruce is going to do something really cool, soon."
Well Zuko wasn’t wrong. Thank god they had each other to level out the crazy women.
“Mmm okay. Doesn’t he do that a lot in these films?” Draco said settling down again happily, the reassuring presence of Zuko by his side was really all he needed.
"You'll have have to wait and see," Zuko teased, messing his fingers through his husband's too-soft hair. "I'd hate to spoil it."
"I don't mind" Draco said as his fingers found their way under Zuko's shirt to stroke along his skin, "I'm getting distracted anyway"
"I worry about your focus," Zuko teased, tipping his husband's head back in order to steal a proper kiss. "We should really work on it." Yeah. Innuendo.
