It had been awhile since Justin had actually seen Lilo in person, so he was looking forward to having lunch with his friend. So much had been going on for the both of them, so he was sure that there would be much catching up to do. They had decided to meet up at a restaurant on the beach, which had a nice view of the ocean. Hey, if they weren’t surfing at least they could still feel like they were on the beach.
As Justin arrived, he sent Lilo a text, unsure if she had arrived yet or if she was still on her way.
Lilo walked in not too long afterward, checking her phone and grinning. “I’m here!” She waved at him before walking over to give him a big hug, beaming. She’d been surfing that morning so she still smelled like salt. It was nice to catch up with her friend.
Justin could smell the salt on her as they hugged and he almost wished he’d been surfing too, “It’s good to see you.” He gave her a bright smile as he pulled away, “What’ve you been up to?” He asked as he gestured towards the hostess podium. They only had to wait a moment or two before another girl appeared and led them to a table, “I feel like it’s been for-fucking-ever since we saw each other.” He stated, taking a seat.
“Honestly, not a lot!” Lilo shrugged and flopped down into a seat of her own. “Surfing, got another dog, things are going good with the boyfriend, really that’s about it.” She scanned the menu, her stomach growling audibly. “I’m more interested in what’s going on with you, anyway.”
“What kind of dog? I’ve been thinking about getting a pet, but I keep thinking a dog would get into my supplies,” And the last thing Justin needed was a dog getting into his paints and chewing his brushes, amongst other things. “I haven’t really been up to all that much either. Spending time with the boyfriend and looking for another job since Black Widow is ending. I actually had a meeting this morning with a gallery owner who is interested in displaying some of my stuff in a show.”
“She’s a mutt,” Lilo beamed. “Ooooh, I’d totally come to see your stuff! And tell me about your boyfriend I want to know everything GO.”
“Oh you’d definitely be invited.” Lilo and all of his other friends. It wouldn’t be the first time Justin had some of his stuff in a show, but it would be the first time in awhile and he was looking forward to it, because it meant there was a chance that he could sell some pieces too. “Are you sure? Because you might not get me to shut up if I start talking about Billy.” He smirked as the waitress came over to take their drink orders.
“Totally sure, tell me everything.” Lilo put her chin on her hands, ready and willing to listen.
Justin grinned after they’d given their orders and the waitress had left, “Alright, but you asked for it. Billy is amazing. He’s a little younger than me, but it’s no big deal. He’s a personal assistant for Zelda Hyrule. A friend of his had gifted him an all expenses paid weekend at this really nice hotel and he surprised me with it last week.” He wasn’t sure just how much detail Lilo was expecting, but Justin was never one to shy away from those details and he never needed to be compelled to tell the truth when it came to talking about his sex life, “We slept together for the first time while we were there. It was actually his first time.”
Clapping a hand over her mouth, Lilo’s eyes went wide. “Awwww,” she cooed. “That’s the cutest thing ever, and you two are so adorable and oh my gosh you look so happy you have mookie eyes eeeee.”
Justin laughed, still smiling. Smiling was pretty much Justin’s default expression so he generally always looked happy, but Lilo was right he was extremely happy with Billy, “And what exactly are monkey eyes?” He asked, brows raising slightly, looking amused, “And what about you and your boyfriend? Hmmm?”
Lilo batted her eyelashes, grinning and fluttering them. “That. That is mooookie eyes. I guess they’re kinda monkeyish too.” She swung her legs and blushed a little at the mention of Will. “Oh, god, I’m so in love with him and it’s kind of ... I don’t know, sometimes I feel badly about it?”
"Oh my god. I don't know why I thought you said monkey." Justin laughed as the waitress came back with their drinks, "I think I'm more tired than I thought." He took a sip of his drink then cocked his head to the side slightly, "Why do you feel bad about how much you love him?" That just didn't make any sense to him.
“I don’t want to put undue pressure on him for him to say it or feel it back, you know? He has his feelings, and they shouldn’t be affected by mine.” She tucked her hair behind her ears and leaned forward to sip her drink instead of lifting it up. It was one of her idiosyncrasies that made her look younger than she was.
Justin nodded, understanding better what she meant, “That’s understandable. I mean, everyone’s feelings are different. In my dreams I’m completely in love with this guy, but at first he kept trying to push me away and said what we had was just fucking, but he’s got a rule where he only sleeps with anyone once, but we’ve slept together more than once.” Justin couldn’t help the slightly smug smirk that crossed his lips at that. “So, he obviously cares more than he lets on. Everyone just shows it differently.”
“That guy sounds like a douchecanoe,” Lilo murmured. “No, I know Will cares, just ... the el word is a big deal and I blurted it out like a lolo the last time I saw him.” She sighed, glad for the arrival of food.
Justin laughed, “Yeah, he kind of is, but he’s fucking hot.” Yes, Justin had a boyfriend, but he could completely understand what his dream self saw in Brian Kinney. He did wonder what would happen if there was a real version of Brian out there and he showed up on Valarnet, but from what he’d seen on Valarnet there were people there who were together in their dreams, but not in real life. “How did will react?”
“So you only sleep with the douchecanoe because he’s pretty?” Lilo’s brown eyes went wide. “You deserve better than that, you know.” Swinging her legs, she folded her arms. “If he comes here and treats you like crap, I’m going to hit him.”
Munching her burger, she swallowed before answering. “Will? He just smiled and blushed and said thank you. He didn’t freak out about it, which is ... great.”
“Well, yes and no.” Justin said, wiping his hands on a napkin then leaned over to take his sketchpad out of his bag, “I’m in love with him. Well my dream self is.” Justin flipped through a few pages until he found what he was looking for. There were two pages of various sketches, one was of Billy, asleep on his side, wearing nothing but a sheet with draped low over his hips, which Justin had sketched while they were away. On the other page was a sketch of Brian that Justin had done from memory, “It’s not much of a stretch to see why my dream self is in love with him.” He said, indicating the sketch of Brian.
“And don’t worry, I’m not seventeen like in my dreams, so I’d hit him too.” Justin smirked and nodded as Lilo spoke again, “At least he didn’t bolt and he still wants to be around you. That’s a good sign.” He had a feeling that Will felt the same way about Lilo, but just didn’t know how to express it.
“Yeah, we still hang out the same as ever. If he’s weirded out, he’s not saying so, so that’s a good thing, I think.” Lilo was clueless about relationships, excluding the ones she was in. She gave great advice to everyone else.
“I don’t think he’s weirded out, but if he’s not used to being in a relationship then he might not know if it’s too early for that stuff.” Justin hadn’t been in a lot of relationships, but he remembered his first serious relationship and how clueless he’d been at the time. “You should ask him about it.”
“Honestly, he’s one of those people that says if there’s a problem, so ... I’m probably being an idiot. He’d tell me if he was upset.” She’d come to terms with her own nervousness as she talked to Justin, and a smile lit up her face. “Thanks!”
"Then it sounds to me like everything is fine," Justin returned her smile. "Also sounds like we're both in pretty awesome relationships." His smile widened into a full blown grin as he spoke.
“Right? Who’d have thought it? I mean, you, you’re a catch, but I’m tall and awkward and I probably smell like ocean funk all the time.” She took some of her hair in her hand and sniffed it, wrinkling her nose.
It boggled Justin's mind that Lilo thought she was awkward when even he could see that she was hot. "You don't smell like ocean funk and you're hot. So shush." He smirked at her, glad that no matter what, she was happy.
That made Lilo laugh. “You’re biased, but thank you.” She stuck out her tongue, glad that he was happy too. That was what mattered.
