Who are you and would you like to earn some money?
Who: GlaDOS and Lena
What: GlaDOS gets a test subject....
Where: Out and about
When: after GlaDOS got her new look
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13
GlaDOS was trying out her new body in public for the first time. Really, Mayuri had outdone himself but she’d never admit that. That would be a compliment, that would be nice. GlaDOS wasn’t nice.
Her heels clicked on the concrete as she walked. She was wearing white (of course) pants, with a matching white blouse that accented her figure. Her hair was the color of pearls and put up in a bun.
Lena was walking down the sidewalk carrying a platter of food. Covered of course. She had spent her day harassing restaurants to try and get hired. Some had shown interest but not many and she was feeling down. She'd graduated top of her class and now nothing.
So preoccupied was she that she nearly ran over the woman. Just barely able to spin and avoid her. Glad she did. The woman was In white. That'd have been messy. "I'm so sorry"
“Watch where you’re going, you could have ruined my outfit, and then I would have to buy another one and the funding for clothing is not unlimited.” GlaDOS said, folding her arms and glaring at her. Her eyes glowed faintly yellow, and her face was expressionless save for a mocking smile on her face.
Lenalee rolled her eyes a bit. “You could just wash it, yeesh.” she carefully rebalanced everything and looked at the woman. “A lot less expensive than replacing everything.” people! she didn’t understand them sometimes.
“Washing.” She looked at Lenalee like she was mad. Or a petri dish underneath a micron microscope and every little detail was of great interest. “Who are you and would you like to earn some money?” Humans liked money right?
Lenalee blinked slowly. First the woman was scolding her for almost ruining her outfit and now she looked at her like she was mad for suggesting she should just wash the items. “Lenalee, and depends.” she wanted to earn money to support herself but a random woman on the street made her a smidge wary.
“My profession is science and I need someone to run some tests. It’s only a little dangerous and you would be compensated fairly.” Pause. “I’d offer cake but you don’t need the help.”
“What kind of tests?” she wasn’t dumb. She was very cautious of things that sounded too good to be true. “And what would happen to me?” she canted her head at her, not entirely sure of it yet. But it was interesting, sounding, at not the usual work. Could be fun? Could be deadly. Oh boy.
“That depends upon a skill assessment,” GlaDOS replied. She looked at the girl and said bluntly. “Physical tests, for new equipment. You wouldn’t be very useful in the biological chambers.”
That sounded less terrifying. “Somehow I think that’s a good thing. Alright. Why not?” she shrugged a bit. “I’m game then.”
The woman with white hair nodded her head in approval, then whipped out a contract. “The Enrichment Center is not responsible for accidental death and dismemberment.”
“Sounds risky but what the hell. Life’s only lived once, right?” she actually would read through the entire thing. Just cause of who her family was, if she didn’t read it down to the fine print, they’d kill her.
The fine print was a little frightening and a little hilarious, as it included just about any waiver that could possibly exist, up to and including waiving responsibility for alien abductions. “I’m working on that. Only living once.”
“ Good for you!” she said as she finished reading the fine print. Alien abductions huh? Weird but whatever. Life was more interesting when you took risks. Even if she knew her family would beat her for being so reckless.
Humans shake on it, right? GlaDOS held out her hand. “Review it. Sign it. Bring it to the address on the back. Then. Then we shall have tests.”
Slender fingers touched hers in a shake, careful. “Of course. Sounds good to me.” no worries right? RIGHT? oh. Wait there were some. She had no idea what she was getting into. “Thank you”
