Integra didn’t remember when Alucard’s birthday was. Which was super depressing in her book because really she should remember these things. Oops? Oh well. But she was being proactive for both that and Christmas, and just because. So she went poking around the County and stumbled upon Midna’s gallery and the tall blonde slipped inside to look around. Curiosity pulled her.
From floor to ceiling and front to back was glass. Colored glass, clear glass, glass in every shape imaginable. There was a gigantic glass elephant and even a lifesize locomotive engine. Midna was getting ready to close for the night, humming to herself as she moved.
“You’re stuff is beautiful.” she said loud enough for the woman to hear her. Then noted prep work to close. “Oh heavens, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize what time it was.” she apologized with a tilt of her head.
“Thank you. I’ve still got about twenty-minutes.” Her accent placed her as non-native, though her english was pretty good. She almost had a slight lyrical note to her voice. The Indian woman nodded her head and said. “I blow all of them myself.”
As well as Integra hid it, she had her own accent, pegging her too, as a transplant to this country. She smiled brightly. “They’re simply wonderful.” she truly was awestruck. Integra had little artistic talent so real, honest art made her feel at awe. “I’m looking for a gift, two actually.”
“That seems to be a thing, lately. What sort of person are you looking for? It’s very important to match to their personalities.” She bounced on her heels, seemingly full of energy.
“My better half. He’s strong, a little mysterious, protective… “ she smiled gently at the woman. She liked the energy, it was a breathe of fresh air. “He’s diligent, and tough, been like a guardian angel to me for many years. He’s been my rock when things have gone bad.”
She tilted her head and thought about it, then held up a hand. “Come with me, I have just the thing.”
Integra arched a brow then followed her. “Alright.” Curious as to what the woman was after. But Integra knew to trust artists. They generally had a knack for it.
“Here…” She pulled out what looked like a glass shield, patterned after the type of shield used by Midna’s own ancestors. “For a guardian.”
She took it gently and smiled, turning it over in her hands. “Oh, this is beautiful.” she held it up gently, before nodding. “One, down, then!”
“And the second?” Midna spun around then sat on a stool and looked up at Integra expectantly.
“For my Father, he’s put up with so much over the years and I want something perfect for Christmas for him.” she smiled. “He worked so hard for us both after mother died, that I know he missed out on things because of me. I want to give him something that’s unique and lets him know how loved he is. But I’m creative-less, so I can’t really make anything myself.”
“What kind of things does he like? What’s his personality? Or maybe you want something for him to remind you of his mother?”
“Old things, mainly. Dad’s a bit stuck in history some nights. He’s very stern, focused on what’s right, hard working. I … I don’t… no.. it was my mother we lost, his wife, and he always said I remind him too much of her.” she said quietly after a moment.
“Well, I don’t have anything that old. Not the kind of old he’d want.” She understood about not wanting something to remind, so dropped that. “But maybe something that reminds him of history.”
“That would work - or I guess something to remind him of me? I mean, he’s back in London, so something elegant but whimsical maybe?”
She darted her eyes, then hopped off of her stool and ran pellmel through the gallery. She returned a minute later, cradling a glass violin. “Whimsicle? A small violin.”
Interga watched her run through the gallery with a smile. She was just full of energy. “That is beautiful.” she grinned then a lightbulb went off in her head “Oh! Any dancers floating around in here?” her eyes lit up a bit. “I did ballet for pretty much most of my life”
“Yes!” She pointed overhead. “They’re dancing above us! She’d be expensive, though.”
She looked up. “That doesn’t bother me. He’s worth every penny I spend.”
“Okay. Let me get that one for you.” She grabbed a ladder and climbed up it like a monkey, teetering precariously.
She watched her go and smiled a bit. Spider monkey. “Thanks, that’d be perfect. Thank you again, these are lovely”
“You’re welcome.” Midna named the price, which was a little lower than she would otherwise, if only because of the look on Integra’s face. What could she say, she was a sap.
Integra held up a card. “That work?” she asked before quietly searching her wallet, grinning to herself. She knew the woman had quoted her something lower, artists! So she planned on a tip for the amazing work.
“That’ll work.” Midna led her toward the front so that she could run the card and charge integra an arm and a leg. Or at least a wrist and a knee. She really liked wrists, Midna did.
Integra didn’t mind being charged a wrist and a knee. It was better than an arm and a leg. And well, actually, Integra didn’t mind splurging, either, since she rarely actually spent money and worse things until they fell apart despite the giant house. >.<
“I hope they like it,” Midna said, genuinely. “Let me know how it went!”
“Thank you, I will.” she smiled and took her packages, carrying them ever so carefully, before giving the woman a wave, and slipping out. She really looked forward to giving these to her loved ones, she just knew that she had found the best gift.
