He was still standing a little behind her, just out of her field of vision. The early spring air was chilly, and Ben felt more than a little awkward standing on the patio in a t-shirt and boxer shorts. Even though it was the middle of the night, it was very possible they could be heard by those staying in the adjoining rooms. He felt embarrassed all around.
"I'm not saying I don't..."
Ben moved closer to her, reaching out a hand to touch her shoulder, but it fell back to his side.
"But, Juliet... I'm not as young as I used to be... I'll be fifty, sooner than I'd like to admit. But you know I wanted us to have a baby. I wouldn't have brought it up, if I didn't. But an adoption, it's different for the father... "
