Lydia was going to lock herself in her room and never come out. That’s what she’d told herself anyway. Ever since this whole telepathy thing started up, she’d been hearing everyone and everything that came from people’s heads. Her best friend was in love with her brother. Or at least wanted to bone him. And vice versa. She wanted to scrub out her brain. Why was it always someone else? No one ever thought about her like that.

So she was hiding in general, but she knew that she needed to go into work and pick up some clothes for a photoshoot that was happening later on. Thankfully there weren’t that many people around, so she tried to avoid them as quickly as possible and went up to Peter’s office. She thought he wouldn’t be there, and could just let herself in.

When she saw that he was there though, she tried not to look sheepish. “Hey.”

"Somehow, I'm not quite sure that would help. But the offer is sweet and I appreciate it."

Peter holds up a hand and shakes his head a little, "You don't have to, Lydia. I enjoy working with you, and at this point I think it's just something my wife and I have to work through.

Though if I've made you feel uncomfortable, I understand if you'd rather not continue to work for me."

"You're probably right, I just felt like I should volunteer." Just in case it was the right thing to do. She didn't really want to get into a fight with Peter's wife.

Far be it for her to say something about how it probably had nothing to do with Lydia, so she kept her mouth shut. It was his marriage, not hers.

"No, you haven't made me feel uncomfortable. I'm just sorry you're upset. I wish there was something I could do."

"You're such a dear to be worried." He reaches out to squeeze her hand with a gentle smile.

"I'm going to do something special for her. I'm actually working on this dress for her, and I'll ask her to wear it when I take her out for a nice evening at her favourite restaurant. We'll get a babysitter and have an evening to ourselves. It won't fix everything, but it's a start."

She gave his hand a squeeze in return and smiled. "That sounds like a good idea. I'm sure she'll love it." She would love it if someone made her a dress. Though of course not to make up for something that they'd done. It was the thought that counted. "I won't keep you, since you're busy. I'm just going to crash over here and read and stuff." And keep all of those voices that were in her head quiet.

Peter kisses her knuckles and holds her hand a moment longer before letting her go. "Thank you.

Your Halloween costume is up on the rack, by the way. If you'd like to see it."

The dress, he thought, was sexy without being over the top. The bodice was simple and tasteful, and the black and red had layered well on top of each other. Hopefully, Lydia would like it.

Oh! Halloween costume. Lydia beamed and then went over to go find it. "Oh man that is gorgeous!" she turned back towards him and grinned. "I love it. Thank you so much." Ah if things were different, she would have kissed him. But she didn't.

Instead she went to get it off the rack and then go to try it on. She wanted to make sure that it fit, even if he already had her measurements down to a T.

Already she loved it though.
