There was something odd going on. It wasn’t just the fact that Darcy could now locate anyone in the world. It was an odd sensation, and had overpowered her for most of the day yesterday. She’d spent the whole day in bed trying to get it to turn off. Super powers? Yeah, she didn’t think so. It was odd. It was just like she knew. Thinking about someone, she saw where they were. Anyone. At all. Crazy. She could even see where her mother was.
However the odd part about all this was that Jane hadn’t moved from where she was in quite some time. She was just there by the university and hadn’t moved. It was enough to make Darcy nervous and so she left their home finally and went down to the university to find her.
Jane’s head was groggy when she came around. Her vision blurred, she was dizzy, sick to her stomach and weak as a kitten. She remembered talking to Maia, saying goodbye and then...she must have passed out. The heavy feeling of sleep started to come over her again and she knew she had to get help from someone. With no idea where she was, she managed to pull her mobile out of her jacket pocket and send a quick text to Darcy asking for her help before passing out again.
When Darcy got the text, she went as fast as she possibly could over to the university. She was breaking a lot of traffic laws, but whatever. She had to get to her fast. Something had happened. To both of them it seemed like. As quick as she could, she raced over and practically left the car in the middle of the street in order to race over to Jane. She saw her slumped over onto the side walk and bent down next to her. “Oh god. Jane… Jane wake up!” she shook her a little, looking to see if she could figure out what was wrong while she called 911.
It didn’t take long for the ambulance to get there, though meanwhile Darcy tried desperately to get her friend to be wide awake.
Jane remembered flashes of things once Darcy arrived; Darcy shaking her, talking to the dispatcher, then talking to her in an effort to keep her awake. She also remembered taking Darcy's hand as they loaded her in the ambulance and not letting go, wanting her best friend with her.
Darcy followed into the ambulance and didn’t leave once they took her inside. Of course she couldn’t be in the room where they tried to figure out what was wrong. Still she held her hand until she was told to wait outside. However once they had examined her, she went back to sit with her best friend and hold her hand. Hopefully she was awake.
“Hey,” Jane slowly turned her sleepy gaze on Darcy as she felt her friend take her hand. “You found me…” she said, voice raspy. “How? I’m pretty sure that I was less than vague,” Jane tried to joke, however her pallor took away from humour it may have had.
Oh thank goodness. She was awake and her best friend looked quite relieved. She gave a small squeeze to Jane’s hand and smiled. “Uh.. okay I know this is weird but.. I know where people are. Everyone. And I mean everyone. My head is kind of a mess but I just.. knew where you were.”
Jane's eyebrows almost reached her hairline. "That's pretty cool," she said. "You're kind if like a people gps," she mused. "How'd that happen?"
“Yeah! It’s just like that.” Darcy seemed a bit chuffed about the whole thing. “Uh.. honesty? I don’t know. There was this rock out in front of my car when I went to work and then it was like.. I don’t know what it was. It was a weird color, and then it just happened. I think it’s the rocks fault. What happened to you?”
“I found a rock too,” Jane told her with a quiet smiled. “Guess I lucked out with mine though.” she tried to joke.
“Really? Huh. That’s really lame. I wonder if it was the rock that made you sick. Should I find it? Or .. take it to the doctors?” Darcy didn’t quite know.
“Oh god no,” Jane shook her head, struggling to sit up in the bed. “If it did this to me I don’t want you going anywhere near that thing! When I get out of here…if I get out of here,” she corrected, if the way she felt was any indication then it was feasible she wasn’t coming out of this hospital in anything but a body bag. “I’ll get a HazMat suit from the lab...go back to the apartment and get rid of it,” she told her.
“Okay well yeah you call someone, or let me call someone. Because we can’t just let those things sit there and make more people sick.” Darcy really didn’t want that. “Can I call someone to do that? Because I don’t know how long you’re going to be here.” And she wasn’t going to let Jane leave when she was sick.
"I suppose you could call Professor Carter, she'd probably know who to call," Jane told her. "Number's in my phone wherever that is..."
“Okay Professor Carter. Got it. Will do.” Darcy went to go find her phone and then found the number. “Give me a second and I’ll call, okay? Don’t go anywhere.” She made a face and stepped out into the hall, though hopefully without any nurses seeing.
Jane sighed sleepily and closed her eyes while Darcy stepped out, feeling herself sinking into the pillows as she dozed off a little.
