After his dream about Henrik’s death, Finn couldn’t stop thinking about his youngest brother and hated the fact that eventually he too would have the same dream. He didn’t know what happened when someone here died in a dream, but he didn’t want Henrik to have to witness that. He didn’t want his brother to wake up in pain or wonder if it meant he was going to die in the waking world, but unfortunately there was nothing Finn could do to stop it. However, he could try and stop himself from thinking about it. After seeing Klaus’ post about inviting people down to his bar, Finn had decided that if he was going to have a drink, the best place to do it was at his brother’s bar where Niklaus could keep an eye on him and make sure that Finn only had one or two drinks. It had been the drugs, not the alcohol that Finn had been addicted to, so a drink on occasion was alright and he knew he could trust his brother to adhere to his limit.
Margaery’s latest dream had her worrying about her brother. Her beautiful, loyal and strong brother. He was her protector, her rock in that world. On top of that, which had struck her out of the blue since she’d stopped dreaming for a while, she had just completed her summer internship and now needed to think about her classes and TA work once more. So as she was heading home she decided to call in at a bar she noticed on the way and have a drink. It was fairly unusual behaviour for her but she felt the need just to sit and gather her thoughts before she went home. So entering the bar she took a seat and order a drink.
When Margaery sat down near him, Finn was still on his first drink, which was probably for the best. The longer it took him to drink it, the less likely he was to have a second. He was setting the glass down after taking a sip when he actually noticed Margaery and recognized her right away as the girl he had spoken to once or twice on Valarnet. Deciding that talking to someone who wasn't a member of his family might be a good distraction, he turned towards her, hoping he wouldn't be bothering her, "Margaery, right?"
Margaery turned at the sound of her name and smiled as she realised it was someone she had spoken to on the net before, “That’s right” she nodded, “Finn, correct?” she added holding out her hand, “It’s nice to actually meet you”
Finn nodded, “It’s nice to meet you as well. I hope I’m not bothering you.” Finn was still new to the whole on-line community thing and aside from Stefan or other friends of his siblings’ he hadn’t met anyone in person that he’d met on-line and wasn’t entirely sure whether or not it was creepy to approach people one had spoken to on the internet only once or twice.
“Not at all” Margaery assured him, “It’s actually nice to be pulled away from my thoughts for awhile” she smiled kindly at him. It probably should be creepy but for some reason it really wasn’t. Besides they were in a public place and if he was some creepy guy Margaery was pretty sure she could look after herself.
“I know exactly what you mean,” Finn took a sip of his drink and set the glass down on the bar top, “I’ve been sitting here for a little while now with nothing but my own thoughts.” He cast a quick glance around for Klaus then turned back to Margaery, “One of my brothers owns this bar and he’s here, but he is quite busy, so I can’t expect him to hang around and talk to me the entire time I’m here.”
“Seems as if it is a lucky turn of events for both of us that I chose to come in here then” she said, “I am a good listener if it would help to talk” she offered, or she would be happy to discuss random topics if he wanted his mind taken off things for a while.
“I suppose it is,” Finn smirked, already feeling a little better, but only a little. “Do you have dreams like the majority of Valarnet have?” Finn didn’t mind talking about his dreams. He knew that if he kept it to himself, he’d just go crazy worrying about Henrik and what the dreams might mean for him in the waking world.
“Oh yes” Margaery nodded in confirmation, “I’ve had a number of them” She’d had a feeling it might be something like that, most people’s main issues seemed to be with the dreams, not that she was really any different.
“I hope yours haven’t been bad,” Finn didn’t like to think about anyone else dreaming about a sibling or loved one dying in front of them. He hadn’t really had a chance to talk to many others about their dreams and he found that he was curious as to what Margaery dreamt about, but he wasn’t going to pry into something that was private unless she brought it up.
“Mostly not” Margaery replied, “It is a very different world I dream of, inherently more violent than this one. I personally have survived so far, though others have not been so lucky” In general Margaery didn’t mind discussing her dreams, “Sometimes though a particularly upsetting one hits and I am less prepared for it”
Finn nodded, “I certainly wasn’t prepared for the last one I had.” He frowned slightly, the memory of Klaus running back towards their hut with Henrik in his arms sliding into his head, causing him to take a sip of his drink, “It was about my youngest brother.” He didn’t know why he’d said it, but there was something about Margaery that told him he could trust her.
Margaery placed her hand on his arm, “I’m sorry” she said softly, “Was he okay?” she asked, letting him know she was there to listen should he need or want to talk.
Finn hadn’t expected the physical contact, but he certainly wasn’t going to push her away or anything. Fingers wrapped around his glass, Finn shook his head, “No. He was killed.” It was the first time he’d said it out loud and had been expecting it to feel like his heart was being squeezed in a vice when he finally said it, but he found that it was easier to talk about than he’d thought. Possibly because, deep down, he knew that just because Henrik died in the dreams, didn’t mean it would actually happen.
She’d done it without much thought, Margaery wasn’t an overly tactile person but she was kind and didn’t like to see people upset especially if they were nice and good. “I am sorry you had to experience that dream” she said, “I cannot say I know exactly how you feel but a close friend of mine, my brother’s boyfriend actually, died in my dreams so I believe I know how upsetting the experience can be” she told him, wanting him to know he wasn’t alone.
Finn has known that there were other people on Valarnet who dreamt about family or friends dying, but hearing Margery say she had, had a similar experience helped him just a little, “I’m sorry. Were you there? In the dream, that is.” He wished he could stop thinking about Henrik covered in blood, clothes torn as Klaus had carried him back to their hut.
“I wasn’t there, no” Margaery replied, “I saw his body later but the two people who were with him at the time of his death had fled. I take it you were there in yours?” Her voice was soft and soothing.
Finn nodded and took a sip of his drink, which was still a little more than half full, “I was inside when I heard my other brother coming back. We…” He paused for a moment, unsure if he should go into more detail, but decided that Margaery had more than likely heard crazier stories than his, “We lived in a village that was primarily made up of werewolves. On the full moons we’d stay in, but one full moon my brothers, Klaus and Henrik snuck out to see them change and Henrik was attacked.”
“Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry” Margaery said, although there were no supernatural creatures in her dreams she knew others had different dreams of magic and monsters. “Are you worried about your brother having this dream too?” she asked gently, after all it had played on Loras’ mind when he had dreamed of Renly’s death.
“I am. He’s only sixteen and I don’t know how they’ll affect him. I know there are other people here who have dreamt of their deaths in the dreams, but I don’t recall seeing anyone so young talk about it.” If there was a way to stop Henrik from ever having that dream, he would, but he doubted it were at all possible. “Has your friend dreamt of his death?”
“I cannot say I recall that either” Margaery admitted, although the amount of people that had died in their dreams seemed to be increasing. “He has not yet. Though my brother has told him about it, so that he is prepared for when it happens” she told him.
“Part of me wants to tell him, but at the same time, I don’t want him to know. I know he’ll dream it eventually, but…” Finn sighed and took another sip of his drink, “Would you want to know? If someone knew something awful was going to happen to you in the dreams?” He was curious how her brother’s boyfriend had reacted upon hearing about his dream death.
Margaery nodded slowly, “I think I would want to know” she said, “I know it would not prepare me completely for experiencing it but at least it would not be a complete shock when it happened, you know?”
“I don’t know if I’d want to know,” Finn said, setting his glass down, which was half full by now. “I would expect each dream to be that one then.” Dreaming about someone else’s death had been awful, but what must it be like to dream of your own? Finn hoped he never had to find out.
“I suppose it depends on whether or not the dreams come in an order” Margaery replied, “Some people seem to have them in a story order whereas some jump from here to there. But it would still be such a terrible shock if there was no warning”
“Mine appear to be in order so far. However, I’m aware of other things that happen because other than my youngest brother, my sister is also dreaming.” Finn wondered why they didn’t all dream in the same order since they were siblings and all, “How have the dreams come for you and your brother?”
“My brother dreamed mostly in order” Margaery said, “But mine have been more sporadic I think would be the word, and they are still out of order but talking to him I have been able to piece together how things should go. When I came here and began to dream I always assumed they would happen as Loras’ did”
Finn wondered if perhaps the best course of action would be the get together with his siblings so they could all talk about their dreams together, instead of over multiple texts and get a better feel for what everyone has dreamt about so far. “I’ve spoken to my siblings, but there are quite a few of us, so it’s hard to keep track of what exactly everyone has dreamt.” He’d have to text Rebekah later to try and figure out the best course of action for getting everyone together.
“I imagine that would be quite difficult” Margaery nodded, “Thankfully Loras and I are the only ones here and dreaming, well except for our grandmother but she hasn’t mentioned anything yet. Do you have any family occasions coming up? Maybe you could speak to them all together then” she suggested.
Finn’s brows rose slightly at the mention of her grandmother, “I would hate for my parents to have these dreams. I wouldn’t want either of them, especially my mother dreaming about Henrik’s death.” He didn’t know if his mother would be able to handle seeing that, not after Finn had almost died six years earlier. “Not to my knowledge, but perhaps I can suggest a dinner.” That would probably be the best way to go about it.
“Well my grandmother in the dreams is kind of like my mentor so I’m lucky she is here, if anybody can deal with them in a pragmatic way it will be her” Margaery told him, “But I think dinner would be a good idea. Make the experience a pleasant one even thought what you have to say is not so pleasant”
Finn nodded, glad that Margaery had a support system in place for something like this. This whole dream business wasn’t exactly normal, but having support and people who didn’t think you were crazy was a good way to deal with it, “It will be an interesting conversation, that’s for sure. I can safely say that we have never had a family conversation that consisted of talking about a past where we were vampires.” It sounded absurd, but also not at the same time.
"I wish you the best of luck with it" she told him sincerely before her cell phone beeped at her, "Oh I am afraid it is time I was going, but I do hope you are feeling somewhat better than you were before"
“Thank you.” Finn smiled, feeling somewhat lighter than he had when he’d first arrived at Klaus’ bar that night, “It was a pleasure to meet you in person, Margaery. Perhaps we’ll see one another again soon.” She really was a lovely girl and if there was one thing Finn needed more or, it was friends who were completely separate from his siblings and their friends. Not that he didn’t like his siblings’ friends, but he needed to be making some of his own. “And thank you for the conversation.”
Margaery too found that her thoughts didn’t weigh as heavily on her as they had when she had entered the bar, something she was very grateful for. “It was lovely meeting you too” she said with a nod, before reaching into her bag and scribbling her number on a piece of paper. Handing it to him she smiled, “In case you need to talk again and I don’t happen to be around” she told him.
