Neena was glad Thomas had Labor day off. She made sure she had the day off too so they could spend it together. She had hot dogs and burgers on the grill and a glass of lemonade in hand. Dante was laying on the ground next to her lawn chair getting occasional ear scritches. It was just a nice, lazy day for them all.
Thomas was in the chair on Neena’s other side; eyes closed, arms dangling over the sides of the chair as he let all the stray magic and emotions of the week just seep into the ground beneath his feet. The earth was a great recycler of energy, Elaine had said during one of their classes, and Thomas was doing his best to let it do just that as he wiggled his bare toes in the grass. “I so needed this day.”
“After last night I think we both did.” Neena noted with a sigh. Foiling an amateur robbery with Turin had tired her out a lot. “Feeling better?” She asked, turning to smile at him. She understood that he needed to recharge sometimes, and that he had some kind of connection to the classical elements, but she didn’t understand the whole thing just yet.
“Yeah,” he said, lazily turning his head and opening his eyes to smile back at her. “You?” He didn’t really need to ask when he could tell that she was, but he figured communicating aloud was the thing to do. He might be able to sense her emotions, but she couldn’t read his mind. Unless he learned how to magically speak into her mind, he’d just have to make sure his tongue was multi-talented.
“Yeah. I’m thinking of giving up most of my bartending shifts so I can be home more when you are. Not to mention the fact that I almost passed out Saturday night.” She sighed a little. It frustrated her to be so weak. She wasn’t used to taking any kind of precautions to give herself enough time to rest or anything like that. “Next time you get to be pregnant and I’ll work my ass off to support you.”
“Careful what you wish for,” Thomas retorted, winking at her, “The Summerses might build another Freaky Friday device.” He laughed softly, and reached out to stroke Neena’s arm. “How about we deal with one pregnancy at a time?”
She grabbed his hand, planting a soft kiss on its knuckles. “This one is consuming all my energy now anyway.” She finished her lemonade and looked over at the grill. “Should check on the meat before it burns.” Which didn’t mean she was getting up or even letting go of his hand. She wanted to keep touching him.
Thomas squeezed her hand, lacing his fingers with hers. “Want me to take care of it?” He didn’t seem to be in much more of a hurry than she was, but at least he offered. He even sat up halfway.
She chuckled. “We can do it together.” It was silly, but she really didn’t want to let go of him. “I need more lemonade, anyway.” She hauled herself up out of the lawn chair, stretching her free arm upward. The bulge of the baby felt even more obtrusive when she stretched backward.
Thomas rolled his shoulders as he stood, then reached out to caress Neena’s rounded abdomen, feeling a surge of excitement and pride at the thought of meeting their child in person one day. Maybe they would be able to bring his or her big brother home by then, and that thought was both thrilling and a little scary as well, but Thomas wasn’t letting himself worry about it. Right now, they could just deal with getting dinner.
“You’re so beautiful, Neena.”
She put her hand on top of his. Pride, hope, and worry were all fighting to be the dominant emotion. She couldn’t wait to meet their child, either. “I love you.” She said softly, pulling him down for a kiss.
He kissed her, pulling her close for a long moment. He could feel the jumble of emotions between them, covered over with love, and knew that he could handle just about anything that came their way. As long as they kept learning to work together like this, they’d figure things out. “I know,” he quipped, smirking at her when they came up for air. “Let’s get dinner taken care of, and you can tell me all about it.”
Neena snorted and nudged him in the ribs. “Go tend to the meat.” She broke away from him, grinning wryly before she made her way over to the cooler. “You want a drink?”
“Sure,” he said, glancing over his shoulder as he went to the grill. He wasn’t as fond of fire as Harry, but he liked to think he could hold his own at a cookout. He flipped the burgers, shifting them on the grate to ensure even cooking--or at least to prevent the ones that had gotten a touch darker than the others weren’t sitting right over the flames where they could turn into charcoal briquets. “Nothing looks too blackened yet.”
"How much longer?" She asked as she made her way to his side, drinks in hand. She wasn't in any particular hurry, but the burgers smelled amazing.
“Not long,” he said, wiggling a hand in the air as if somehow that would indicate some measurement of time. “Depends how pink you like them in the middle.”
"I've got one parasite already, let's stick with brown." She snickered, drawing him in for a kiss. She couldn't touch him enough when they were together.
“Fair enough.” He set the flipper aside, and wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing her deeply in return. His fingers teased the hem of her top, tickling any skin he could find. He could think of a few ways to pass the time until the burgers were ready...
Neena's mind was going the same direction as his. She had a tall privacy fence, there was no reason to hold back. The kiss sent heat through her whole body. She groaned softly, tugging his shirt up upward. Her fingers searched for his skin as well.
He shrugged the shirt off for her, wondering briefly why he even bothered to wear a shirt at all, and then returned at once to the kissing and caressing. If their bodies were their temples, then Thomas wanted to worship at Neena’s altar every day. Sure, he’d taken to attending church with her whenever he could, but he still preferred this sort of fellowship to hymns and sermons--blasphemous though it may be.
“Want to shake the earth with me?”
Neena snorted, tugging her own t-shirt up and off. “Always. Thank God there’s one strenuous activity that isn’t blacklisted.” She’d probably go insane if she couldn’t be with him. It was their private moments together when they worked best. They weren’t talkers, they were people of action, and his actions always got an eager response.
She ran her hands over his body once she was shirtless, her height making it easy for her to kiss and nibble the skin of his neck and chest. She adored every inch of him, but she especially loved his neck and shoulders. He worked hard at the gym for the muscle definition, and she enjoyed the fruits of his labor a great deal.
Maybe it was vain of him to spend so much time on his looks, but it wasn’t just for looks that he worked out. Yeah, it looked great on camera, but he wanted to have the strength and endurance to outrun the real life badguys they seemed to encounter every other week. The flexibility to bounce back when he got knocked on his ass. He was working on spiritual training, too, so that when emotions were high, he could bend, and not break.
But he couldn’t deny that he loved seeing the look in Neena’s eyes when he had his shirt off.
He ran his hands down her spine, kneading the small of her back, and the curve of her buttocks. He knew he’d never be able to convince her to hold still for Elaine--at least not until her belly was as big as a beach ball--but that just meant more things that he could do to pamper her. And, by God, he was going to take advantage of every single opportunity to do so. “You’re so beautiful.”
She sighed softly, her eyes closing in delight as he ran his hands over her body. Her lips curved into a serene smile, and she gently pulled his head down to kiss him. She was glad she wasn’t far enough along for her belly to get between them too much. She loved the way it felt to press against his body and be encircled in his arms.
The kiss was long and loving. Her hands stroked up his back, her nails dragging delicately over his skin.
Thomas smiled against her mouth, stroking her arms, her stomach, her sides. His fingers teased at her waistband, and over the front of her pants; dipping down between their legs. Moving languidly but with intent.
Neena moaned softly, shivering as his hands wandered over her body. She couldn’t help but gasp when his fingers brushed up against that very sensitive area. Her own hands fell to his waistline in response, undoing his pants. She’d have to slither out of her boxing shorts at some point, but right now she was content just to take her time and work his pants off at a leisurely pace. She wanted to go slow and easy, and not just so she wouldn’t pass out in the middle of things.
Thomas sighed softly, teasing her through her clothes, then moving on to stroke her outer thighs, and back up the length of her torso. He bent his head, nuzzling the curve of her neck; the upper swell of her breasts. Their relationship may have started in a blaze of wildfire, but now it was a steady, glowing ember--just waiting to be fanned to flame.
Neena moaned softly. His hands and lips felt wonderful. For a moment all she wanted to do was stay still with her eyes closed and devote all her attention to the way it felt as he explored her. “I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this.” She wondered what it would be like to grow old with him and watch their children grow up. It was going to be one hell of an adventure.
“Good,” he murmured, letting a whisper of magical energy escape from his fingertips. “Because I still have a few tricks up my sleeve.” Water let him sense the vibrations another person’s emotions, but Earth? That let him make his own vibrations, inciting deep, primal feelings like lust. And when the two elements combined?
Well, he was still getting the hang of it, but it was a hell of a one-two punch.
Neena moaned softly, opening her eyes to meet his. That felt really good, but part of her worried at the same time.. “You haven’t been able to do anything like that for a while.” She hoped he wasn’t getting his old demons back.
“Look at me,” he said, holding out his open hand for her to see. “No burns. No blisters. Not even a hint of redness.” If she was still worried, he was certainly willing to let her look him in deeply the eye, and see if there was a monster inside. But he felt clean. Whole.
She nodded, kissing him softly. “Sorry, I’m not used to things getting good and staying that way.” She stroked his face, her fingers trailing up into his hair. “Guess I better get over that paranoia, huh?” Because now, with both of them topless and his pants hanging around his hips was the time to talk about this. Totally.
“It’s all right,” he said, “Sometimes getting over it is easier said than done.” He let his magic dance over her skin again as he kissed her, giving her a chance to get used to the feeling. And maybe, just maybe, to distract her from her worries.
It was a good distraction. Neena sighed softly and let her edginess bleed away. He was alright, and his magic would keep him safe from the worse part of his nature. She had to believe that. She kissed him tenderly, pressing her body against his. She didn’t even care that they were both a little sweaty, it felt damn good to be with him. His powers were definitely helping to sweeten the deal.
Thomas rocked his hips, pants slipping further down his legs as he ground against Neena. “So,” he purred, “How do you want to do this? Think I can still pick you up like a doll?”
“I’m interested in finding out.” Neena said with a smirk. She slid her hands over his butt and hips. She knew exactly where to grab to get a handful of flesh. “It’s either that or I could try to ride you, but right now I’d probably fall asleep after a couple minutes.”
Thomas chuckled, and slid his hands down Neena’s thighs, hooking her shorts on the way down. “Let’s just get these out of the way, and then…” He bent his knees, and lifted, tapping a little of that earthcrafter’s strength.
Neena gasped when he picked her up, wiggling her legs a little to get completely out of her shorts. She grabbed hold of his shoulders, laughing loudly. “Oh God, you could drown a small child between my legs right now.”
“Mm…” Thomas groaned, lifting her up to settle her more securely around his waist. “Good thing there are no children around to see this.” Their own little one, he supposed, would be rather preoccupied with the whole growing thing.
That particular child was in no danger of drowning, anyway. Neena locked her legs around his waist, using her arms for stability as she rolled her hips against his, teasing him as well as herself. “No, but we’ll have twenty if we keep this stuff up.”
More groaning from Thomas as he felt that wetness drag against him. He wasn’t sure how long he could concentrate on keeping himself rooted in the ground, but he felt good so far. It was almost as if he didn’t really have to try. “If we get to keep doing this, I’ll have as many as you like,” he purred. “I wonder how much wetter you’ll get if I try a little watercrafting.”
Neena laughed. “I’m more interested in seeing what you can do with your staff right now. Save the kinkeir magic stuff for when there’s no hot dogs threatening to burn.”
Thomas chuckled, and shifted their weight, sliding himself between Neena’s slick folds. “Your wish is my command.”
All in all, Neena was pretty pleased with both his staff and the results of her wish.
