Her pout lifted almost immediately, melting away into a sort of giggle. "I probably should!" Deryn was nothing if not cheery, especially for a girl who had just dropped all of her things in the middle of an aisle.

Of course, bending over to retrieve a few things only resulted in her dropping more. It was a like a bad stand up act except less intentional. "I'm very bad at this sometimes." She didn't seem particularly apologetic.

Maybe it was just him but he wasn’t sure how anyone would go through a grocery store without one. Even if picking up one or two items. Plans could change as they walked through the store or remember a dinner party they planned weeks ago. There was no telling what someone could grab as they passed by the groceries.

He was still attempting to help her gather up her groceries. He watched as she dropped more of her items. Standing straight he looked at the few groceries he had in his cart. “I’m heading out. Just have to buy my groceries,” he started to speak. “You should use my cart.” He set the other can he had picked up into his cart. Away from his own groceries that he moved into the built in child’s seat.

Seemingly delighted by that idea, Deryn smiled, wide and toothy and just radiating pleasure. It was the little things, always the little things. "Aw! That's really nice of you, thanks!" She dropped the rest of her things into the cart -- sugar, butter, sprinkles, an abundance of neon colored band aids.

And then she stuck her hand out for proper greeting, like she was just used to talking to strangers in grocery stores and bogarting their carts. "I'm Deryn."

It wasn't that big of a deal. There weren't that many of his own items in the cart and he was finished with his shopping. If it wasn't used by her then it would be used by someone else. And she was standing right next to him. "You're welcome," he said as he looked down at the cart now filled with her stuff.

"I'm Hal," he said holding out his hand.

She shook, wild and excited and with a little more bounce than was strictly necessary. "It's really nice to meet you. I'm done shopping now too, so I won't hold you up any."

Hal looked down the aisle. "Well I'll walk with you down to the cashier," he said with a smile. "It wouldn't be holding me up." It would be nice to have the company.
