Okay, apparently some people also needed more practice on paperwork. That silly Dr. Brinkman, ruining it for everyone. Shame on him.

"Kidney failure could be a lot of things," John said, as if that weren't obvious. "Do you have a reason to suspect it's murder?" And why was that something that interested him? Must have been all those dreams rubbing off. Some days he considered himself a bonafide detective.

Irene considered her response carefully. "Murder, not necessarily, but it could have been an accident." She sat down. "Kidney failure doesn't affect the lungs. I found weird crystals in one lung, and I sent it for testing, but it could be anything from an indication of drug use, to something like calcium oxalate." Calcium oxalate was one of the primary ingredients in ethylene glycol, or antifreeze. "I thought if I could get a hold of Dr. Brinkman, he could tell me about any other symptoms that might suggest poisoning. Whether it was accidental or on purpose."

How many people really breathed in the makings of antifreeze on purpose though? Actually, no. John wasn't sure he wanted to know the real answer to that.

He just hmmed at that, because there was still a little part of him that wanted to work through the how and why of a discrete murder. It was very un-doctor-like of him, and he should probably stop that. He had general practicing to do. Colds to diagnose and tiny sighs to give to people who were worried about the silliest of things. Boring things.

"Well, I am sure he's here today, Doctor Adler." Why yes, he had noticed her ID card. That was a thing he did now.

"I appreciate it. Am I allowed up there? I am technically a member of staff, I just work out of the morgue instead of this building." Irene chuckled.

That question got her another eyebrow raise. It was just his natural reaction to everything, honestly.

"I don't see why you wouldn't be. But I can show you the way up, if you're -- er. Uncomfortable?"

"Only if you aren't busy, Doctor ..." She trailed off. "Sorry. Doctor ... Watson?" She didn't want to get in his face, so she squinted to read his ID card. "Don't want to take up your time if there's no need." She'd just finish her coffee.

"Watson, right. John Watson." His smile was charming, easy. Personable.

"It's no problem. I can only drink coffee in silence for so long before I feel the need to be exceptionally helpful."

She wasn't sure if he was joking or being sarcastic, but if it wasn't obvious, she usually erred on the side of caution. "I'm not usually burdened with people wanting me to be helpful, so I'm doubly grateful when someone is to me."

It was a little of both -- mostly just good humor though. Watson wasn't really the sort to be mean for no reason. "It really is no problem," he smiled and stood, nodding with his head. "It's just this way."

"Thank you." Irene waited for him to finish getting rid of his stuff. "It sounds silly, I'm sure, but giving his family some closure would actually make me happy."

"Oh, that's hardly silly at all. I don't know why you'd think it was, honestly. It's very kind of you." Stuff gotten rid of, he lead her out of the cafeteria and toward the elevators.

"'Closure' has become a bit of a joke, among coroners." Irene smiled a little bit. "I still take it seriously, but I'm becoming a minority." She followed him out the door and down the hall.
