Having your fiance in another person’s body was problematic. It was positively depressing when it was your best friend’s body. A body you were attracted to but knew that doing anything with it would ruin the friendship forever. Even with permission. Clarice just looked at sex differently. She’d barely been able to work through Tink. She couldn’t imagine it wouldn’t screw things up with Thor.
She trudged into Tink’s shop with some coffee, wondering if her friend would look like her friend.
Tink didn’t look like herself. She had dark hair, more curves, and was a bit taller than before. Quite a bit taller, actually. It was taking some getting used to. But she was still just going about her business, doing what she did best. She was under a car when Blink came into the shop, tightening lugnuts, or something that mechanics did.
“Tink?” Clarice said, nudging the strange person’s foot. “Is that you? You’ve got, uhm...you’re curvy.”
Tink rolled out from under the car and broke into a smile at the sight of her friend. Finally! Someone still in her own skin! “Hey! Yeah... Tiffany’s a bit... I don’t know. She’s got a different body shape than I do.” She said, sitting up and putting a wrench away. Her brunette hair was tied up in the same way that Tink’s would have been, and she was covered in grease, like normal. The coveralls fit quite differently, though.
“It’s nice.” Blink grinned at her. This whole thing was disturbing her on a lot of levels. “I think I prefer blondes though.”
Tink gave a little laugh. “Yeah, you and me both. Actually, I prefer girls with pink skin.” She teased. Though, it was true. There weren’t all that many other women in the world she’d been attracted to. Even if she honestly thought she was straight, Blink was the exception.
Blink blushed a little. “Part of me wonders what would have happened if Illyana hadn’t turned out to be alive, but I always kind of figured I’d end up hurt anyway. Not that it would be your fault, just that it wouldn’t have worked out.”
Tink turned to look over at Blink and gave a little frown. “You assumed you’d end up hurt?” She asked, feeling a bit guilty. “Why?”
“Never fall in love with a straight girl,” Clarice intoned. “I never thought I’d be more than a fun time. Which is okay!”
Tink really, really wished that she was in her own skin at the moment. This was an awkward conversation to be having in general, but when she wasn’t herself? Jeez. Way to go, Universe, throwing her for a loop.
“I’m really sorry.” Tink said, scuffing the toe of her shoe into the ground. She was still wearing Tiffany’s running shoes. She didn’t have any others that fit her feet. “I... I wish I could have been more for you.” She wanted to argue with Blink. She wanted to say she could have fallen for the other girl, too, but that she was happy that Illyana was back. That just seemed a strange thing to say. Truth was, she was confused about her sexual experiences over the last year, and wasn’t sure where her head and her heart lay.
Clarice looked at her, smiling softly, and then gave her a hug. “You’re still my friend, and friends are a precious precious thing to me. You’re important, and that’s what matters.”
Tink returned the hug. She let it linger for a long moment. “I wouldn’t let you get away that easily. My friends are the most important thing in my life, so... you’re in it for the long haul whether you like it or not.” She didn’t want to let her friend go. The hug felt comfortable and normal in a time when Tink felt very out of place in her own skin. Because it wasn’t her own skin.
“I’m glad.” Blink missed Tink’s old skin, as much as she missed Illyana’s. She hoped this mess got sorted soon.
Tink finally pulled back and gave Blink a nod and a smile. “Thank God you’re still here. Keeping me sane when insane things happen.”
"That's what I'm best at!"
