Vala surveyed the room party from her vantage point on the mini-landing in the middle of a flight of stairs. She was very pleased with how this event had gone off, everything going smoothly, everyone enjoying themselves and she had a drink in her hands. So far, a great night, she praised herself.
“Rather amazin’ isn’t it?” Glinda said as she came up beside a woman who seemed to be surveying the room, “Fantastic party. Don’t tell anyone but I’m positive Marie could not have pulled this off on her own” she added in a slightly quieter tone, “I mean I love her but she’s even ditzier than I am and she doesn’t have the blonde hair” she added tossing said hair over her shoulder.
Vala laughed, swilling her wine in her glass. “Oh she couldn’t, that’s how someone like me gets paid,” she winked at the woman next to her then took a sip from her wine.
“Really!?” Glinda said, her hand on Vala’s arm, “You did all this? Oh now this is fate” she said bouncing a little in her heels.
“You bet, darlin’,” Vala grinned, turning to face the woman and lean on the railing with one elbow while they talked. “I’m Vala, Vala Mal Doran,” she held out a hand to shake the other woman’s. “What makes you say this is fate?”
“Glinda Upland” she replied, shaking the offered hand, “Well I just happen to be looking for an incredible events organiser and I do believe my luck may be in”
“Well, events are my talent, incredible just comes naturally,” Vala winked, putting her glass down on the tray of a passing waiter and picking two up, handing one to Glinda. “To fortuitous circumstances,” she clinked their glasses together and took a sip in toast. “So how can I help?”
Glinda accepted the glass with a smile of thanks before giving Vala the brief outline of the fashion house. “So really there will be a number of events to help with, we’d offer your services to our designers as well you see, and they would all culminate with the launch party”
“Sounds like a major project...lot of work involved...co-ordination...planning...” Vala teased out, making it sound like she was unsure about the idea, looking into her glass and swilling it as she pretended to think. After a minute, she looked up at Glinda with a grin on her face, “I’d love to do it!”
Glinda was slightly hesitant at Vala’s words and frowned, surely all those things were what events people did?...Oh, Glinda smiled when she saw Vala’s grin, “Oh you had me worried there” she told the other woman.
“Nah, come on Sparkles,” Vala grinned. “I’m Australian, it’s no worries mate,” she patted Glinda’s arm as she over accentuated her fairly normal accent. “I’ll get started tomorrow, do you have a list of contacts you want me to talk to?”
Glinda smiled brightly, “That accent is simply adorable” she said clapping, “Oh my, really? You don’t want to discuss terms and things first. My accountant insists that I remember to do that”
“Thanks,” Vala laughed, she felt relaxed this evening and while she’d never run a tight ship, she always kept her affairs in order on the periphery. “Sparkles, I can get the ball rolling on some things and call your accountant tomorrow to sort all of that out,” She clinked their glasses again. “You got her number for me?”
Glinda quite liked the nickname, it was almost said with affection unlike some of the meaner things she knew people had called her in the past. Maybe it was the accent. She gave Vala a blinding smile, “You’re going to be perfect, I can tell” she said as she nodded, “And I absolutely have” she opened her small pink bag to retrieve Elphaba’s card and her own (glittery, pink, bright. Not your average business card) and handed them over.
“Should I hazard a guess at the overall theme of this show?” Vala teased with grin as she held up Glinda’s card.
Glinda smiled with a blush, “I’m a big fan of pink” she smiled, “It’s just such a happy color”
“That it is,” Vala agreed, filing the cards away in her handbag. “So what sort of thing do you want for your finale party?”
“Bright, happy, but probably a little more refined than I’d tend to go for” she grinned, “I occasionally need to be reigned in a little, or so I’ve been told” she told Vala in a hushed tone like it was a big secret.
Vala chuckled,” Ok, so mostly pink...with some...green and purples mixed in maybe?”
“Definitely green, it goes good with pink” Glinda replied, ignoring the funny feeling of deja vu that came with that phrase, “Maybe speak to Elphie too, she’ll know about colors that look good and professional”
“Ok, will do, Sparkles,” Vala told her, turning to lean both elbows on the railing and look out over the party. “You want anything else? You want a bar? Entertainment?”
“Oh we’re going to need the whole shebang” Glinda confirmed, “Whatever you can do to make it memorable and wonderful and basically the biggest hit ever!”
“Ohh...I like the sound of that,” Vala grinned, her mind conjuring thoughts of acrobats, flaring bartenders, waiters in (fashionably) next to nothing as they walked around serving people and fire performers on platforms. “Anything...off limits?” she asked, figuring she should probably figure that out before she went crazy with it.
“From me? Absolutely nothing, go completely mental!” she grinned, “Elphie will have to sign off on it all but as far as I’m concerned it needs to be just the best party in the world”
Vala looked at Glinda and grinned as she nodded, having pretty much being handed the reigns to the biggest, most expensive stallion on the face of the planet. “Alright,” she held up her glass to clink with Glinda’s again. “Here’s to the the biggest party this city’s ever seen before,” she smiled.
Glinda’s smile lit up her face, “I will definitely drink to that” she said happily clinking her glass with Vala and thinking how lucky she was to have found their event planner tonight. Things were definitely moving along nicely.
