Yes, are you home alone?
Who: Dani, Caroline, Scott Summers a bit
What: Caroline introduces Dani to the Portal Gun
When: Last night
Where: Dani's house
Rating: PG-13 for hints at sexiness.
Status: Complete

Caroline knocked on Dani's door. She had two duffel bags. One had a change of clothing and some 'scientifici instruments.' The other had a scientific instrument. From her study of the buildings plans, her idea should work fine.

Dani had come around to the area in her mind where she was scared of Caroline again. It was sort of a neverending wheel rolling back and forth between that and finding her fascinating. The woman had been wonderful for her sex life, but she often questioned Caroline's motives, even in the bedroom. Calling the few times they'd been together 'scientific inquiries' was getting old.

So she wasn't sure why she was opening the door, except that she was. She smiled at Caroline a bit nervously, "It's always interesting when you end up at my house."

"Yes, are you home alone? Is the man with a stick lodged firmly up his ass home?"

Scott was in fact in the kitchen.

"Yeah, he's home. And you have to know that I have a stick lodged about as firmly up." Dani snerked, and stepped aside so Caroline could get past her, then shut the door, "Do you want something to drink? Coffee? Iced Tea?"

"I can take care of that," Caroline said, smiling creepily. "Coffee! I need the caffiene for the SCIENCE!"

"Riiight," Dani trailed off and stared at her for a second, then shook her head, "We all need coffee for science, it's a requirement."

She lead Caroline to the kitchen, where she waved at Scott and started brewing a fresh pot of coffee. Frankly she was okay with never going to sleep tonight, because her dreams had been WIERD lately.

Scott lifted his hand and waved at Caroline. He'd been in a fairly good mood since Emma had been there. Caroline just shook her head, "Coffee. Science. Upstairs. No witnesses." She leveled a look at Scott.

The man glanced at Dani, then shook his head ruefully.

"... So how are YOU today Scott?" Dani almost gave Scott a look that could be surmised as 'save me', but instead she busied herself with getting out coffee mugs. She dumped two teaspoons of sugar and some cream into one of the mugs, then poured fresh coffee into both.

Save you? Oh he wasn't going to save you, this was incredibly amusing. Scott finished his lunch, and got to his feet, "I'll leave you two to your 'science', ladies. Have fun."

Nooooo, damn it, he would so not live that down. She gave him the look of DOOM and picked up her coffee mugs, "Thanks ever so much for clearing out. I'll remember this kindness the next time Her Mighty Highness Ms. FancyPants comes around."

"I think she prefers Queen Frost," Scott replied, waving a hand as he walked outside.

Caroline watched him go, then reached for her duffel, "I'll need your cat. Don't worry, I won't hurt it."

"... wait, which one?" Dani eyed the cat currently sleeping under the kitchen table, wondering if it could hear her thoughts about running for the hills.

The cat perked it's ears, then looked at her. It was mostly hungry, but it got the hint and skedaddled up the stairs! Caroline watched it go, "But...! Cats."

"What do you need the cats for? I mean ... I think we established that I'm willing to experiment, but bestiality is a line I'm really not willing to cross in the name of ... science or anything else."

Caroline pulled out a strange device. It resembled a gun, only not. She pressed the trigger and a blue glow appeared on the floor. She pointed it at the wall, pressed another button, and there was a hole! She hopped into the blue glow, and popped out of the orange circle. Then she giggled magnificantly.

"Wait, what." Dani almost dropped the coffee mugs on the floor. She stared at the blue portal, then stared at the orange portal, then stared at Caroline, "How did ... where did you ... what?!"

Caroline launched into a long and involved explanation as to how it worked. It was long enough that the portals faded, as though they'd never been there to begin with!

Dani could literally feel her eyes start to glaze over as Caroline yammered on with the techno-babble. She had taken several classes in the biology related sciences, but THIS stuff was way above her general level of education. Eventually she just put out a hand and shook her head, "Stop, stop. I don't get it. I'm not for science like you are. But where did you GET this thing? Do I need to worry about the government showing up and asking me awkard questions?"

"Oh, of course not. Like most of the world's great inventions it came to me in a dream! I was hoping to test some practical applications. I have someone who can replicate some of the tests." Laura did parkour, that made her the perfect test subject. She in fact was going to call her in the morning, "But I wanted a subject who was..flexible."

"More flexible, eh?" Dani arched a brow.

"Indeed."

She handed Caroline her coffee cup, then took a long sip out of hers, "Are you sure these portals are safe?"

She definitely didn't want to get into the middle of something more flexible and have that written on her tombstone.

"I assure you, as long as the device is active the portals will remain present." Caroline unzipped the other duffel bag. There would be censor pixelation of the entire thing, were this on TV.

That was a lot of 'scientific instruments'. The sheer amount of them almost made Dani swoon. The wheel had rolled back to being fascinated, though she was never sure how long that would last before she was just terrified again.

She knocked back the rest of her coffee, then poured herself another one. The look on her face resembled someone who had resolved themselves to the fact that they were heading off to war or sacrificing themselves for the greater good, "The things I do for science."
