Will had dressed in his best suit - which admittedly wasn't the best - and gotten together a briefcase, even though he didn't really need it. He wanted to make a good impression.

He gave his name to the desk sergeant when he went into the headquarters building, sitting himself down for a long wait. He tried to will himself calm; the worst that would happen would be that he was turned down and he'd go back to the dogs.

	Understanding partner. That would be the crunch point, he thought. With the right person, a person like Graham could grow. With the wrong person, well. "Small talk is overrated.
