Pansy was in a sour mood. She didn’t want to be at her apartment, didn’t want to think about Peter leaving in a week to go spend two weeks on assignment with that slut Gwen Stacy. In Sweden, or some shit. Ugh.
With a CRACK! she appeared in the kitchen at her former apartment. Without looking around for Draco or Zuko, she bent down and pulled open the door to the fridge. Beer? Where’s the beer?
There was no beer. Because Pansy didn’t live there anymore. There were, however, a good deal of those fruity drinks that Zuko was so keen on.
Speaking of, Zuko entered the kitchen at the sound of her apparating. He’d assumed it was Draco, but seemed no more surprised or disappointed to find that it was Pansy instead. “Hello.”
Well, he was probably disappointed, right? He’d been expecting his husband and got her grouchy sister instead. Pansy turned to look, after having picked up one of those fruity drinks. “Hey.” She said, somewhat gruffly, and twisted the cap off the thing. Whatever, it was booze. She could drink it.
Not really. Zuko always seemed to do pretty well with a change of pace. Sure, she wasn’t Draco, but he could deal. “Hey,” he repeated, looking a little perplexed at her lack of -- well. Talking a lot. “What’s up?”
“Shit.” Pansy said, giving a shrug. “All kinds of shit. What’s up on your end?” She asked, lifting the bottle for a gulp. Or three. Sometimes she felt guilty unloading on Zuko. After all, he had his batshit crazy family to deal with all the time, and she didn’t like putting her stupid problems on him.
He didn’t really mind -- especially since things had calmed down a bit lately. His sister and her wife had gone off and moved someplace not this city and suddenly life was sorting out into a way that didn’t make him want to have a coronary every five minutes.
“Not much. Looking into college. What’s the matter?”
“Fucking boyfriends.” Pansy said after a moment’s deliberation about how much she should say. “Fucking Peter’s going to Fucking Geneva for some Fucking work thing.” It wouldn’t have bothered her if he was going for a work thing. Who he was going with was the problem.
Zuko blinked at that, and then slipped past her a little to grab one of those drinks out of the fridge as well. If nothing else, the slight Japanese boy was decent to get drunk with. “Geneva?” he asked, casual -- getting into the conversation slowly. “Is that in Illinois?”
“Uh... Switzerland?” Pansy said, then gulped from her bottle again. “All the way in effing Switzerland, and you know who he’s going with? Just... take a guess. Go on, take a guess who he’s going to fucking Switzerland with.”
Zuko looked oddly cornered for a moment, and so took the time he needed stepping back a little and opening up the twist off of his drink. “Uh-- well. Not you, obviously....”
“Definitely not me.” Pansy said, frowning. She turned around to hop up onto the counter. “His fucking cow of an ex-girlfriend. The blonde.” Pansy wished she could hate the woman more, but the truth of the matter was that Gwen Stacy was a perfectly nice person. And Pansy hated her for it.
Wasn’t that always the way? It was the worst when there was no active reason to hate someone that you wanted to. Zuko frowned, tilting his head to the side just so before moving to sit on top of the kitchen table.
“Do you think something bad will happen?”
“No. I just... I don’t know.” Pansy said, shaking her head a bit. “What if she tries to make a move? What if she’s sad she cut him loose? I mean, he’s such a fantastic guy, and she was an idiot to let him go.”
“I think if he loves you, it won’t matter much.” Zuko wasn’t a huge romantic or anything, but he was also pretty sure that he wouldn’t freak out if Draco went somewhere with a person he used to date. Commitment wasn’t romantic, it just was.
“Yeah. Doesn’t make it any less terrifying.” Pansy said, frowning. She lifted the bottle to gulp from it again. She’d never had anything like what she had with Peter, and the thought of losing it--however irrational or illogical--was absolutely heart wrenching.
“What can you do about it really, though?” Zuko was apparently a realist when it came to things like these -- he didn’t see much of a point in freaking about what he couldn’t help. The dream version of himself was always angsting about something or other, and it was distracting as hell. He knew better here. Lately.
“Nothing, I guess.” Pansy said after a moment of contemplation. “I don’t think there’s anything I can do besides sit around and worry.” She frowned, then hopped up on the counter. “You’ll probably be seeing a lot of me until Peter comes home.” She added. “Sorry in advance.”
Zuko only shrugged, taking another sip of his drink. “I don’t mind. Draco will be happy to see more of you too, I’m sure.” Living together was nice, but Zuko did occasionally miss the late night video games battles that Pansy offered, as well as the extra noise. Zuko wasn’t all that loud himself, but he did like the distraction of background noise.
Pansy nodded. “I’ll bring dinner by some night and we can play Mario Kart.” Pansy said, giving him a smile. Playing video games on her system at her own place was great--no one to interrupt her--but playing here with Zuko was just as awesome. She didn’t mind the questions and tips, the talking while they played. Actually, it made things a bit more interesting.
He’d gotten pretty good at video games. Practicing had been his only real choice after Pansy moved out and when Draco was busy. “Seems like a plan,” he said, smiling.
