Belle had a gallon of ice cream and a cake tucked under her arms as she walked up to Jonas' door. Unable to knock, she kicked softly at, 'poking' Jonas mentally to let him know it was her. Because he totally wouldn't know it was her from her voice.

"Hey! Lemme in!"

	Jonas sprinted to the door, throwing it open without the usual interrogation sequence. "Oh, oh, let me help." He took the ice cream from her and took it to the kitchen table, setting it down. "I'm a lost cause," he lamented.

Life. He thought of the towels from last week, stained red. Thank god they'd gone out with the trash. Aside from that? "Pretty awesome, actually. I've made a couple new friends, been wandering around watching way too many movies, as usual."

He saw her pick up the serving knife and lunged, grabbing her hand. "No. NO. I bought candles and I intend to use them."

	Instinct kicked in before thought had a chance. Her free hand grabbed his wrist, jerking his hand away from the knife, and she pulled it back, ready to move in for a closer strike. With a cake knife. After the initial reaction she relaxed, letting go of Jonas' hand quickly. "Dieu." She shook her head, setting the tool down. "Y' alright?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

To his credit, he wasn't too ruffled. Startled, though, for sure. "Jeez. Remind me not to sneak up on you. You strike like ninja."

He then proceeded to reach across the table, and produced a tiny pack of candles. "Yeah, I'm fine. But you have to tell me how old you are if I'm going to put these on the cake."

He smiled goofily, hoping to defuse the situation. It really wasn't a big deal, to him. So she had insane ninja reflexes--he had grabbed her. His fault.

	"Nineteen." She said, shaking her head. "Hard t' adapt t' real life." Nothing about the Guild or Seattle was even close to the real world, and she knew it. That was way more surprising. "...seriously? I mean, I thought..." He fumbled for a way to put it so it wouldn't seem weird, or offensive. "I thought you were in your twenty's, at least. I guess you're just way more mature than me. I'm going to be nineteen in a couple months."

"...no?" he said, and smiled cheekily. "There's nothing good in theaters right now! I even went and saw that Spiderwick Chronicles movie. Laaaaame."

"Not more mature. Just more adult. The two are rarely de same thing." She shrugs. It wasn't that big a deal, really. "From a really weird society. Been considered an adult for five years now."

The second bit shakes her from her memories and makes her snicker. "Only thing I had half a desire t' see was the Assassination of Jesse James, but I never got around t' it. Might rent it sometime dis week."

	He raised an eyebrow. "Um. Wow," he said. "That's pretty intense." He bounced up and down a bit. "Ooh! Me too. We should rent it." He then suddenly remembered the candles in his hand and shuffled over to the cake, opening the package and placing them in a careful circle around the edge. "Thank god I bought the big box. He nodded. "Agreed! Brad Pit as an outlaw waits for no man! Seven, eight..." He got all the candles put into the cake and then stopped.

"I forgot matches." He paused a moment, staring at the cake, and then waved his hands at her. "Close your eyes, close your eyes!"

He waited until she wasn't looking, and then all nineteen candles flared to life on their own. "Okay, you can open them." He gasped at the lit candles. "Well! Will you look at that."

	She laughed. "I'm not really countin' on it comin' true, anyway." It didn't really bother her. She'd just wished for some fun next time she went on patrol with Miho. "Heck yes!" he said. "Hold on."

He set his cake down and scurried down the hall to the bedroom, returning with a soft package that had a card taped to the top. He handed it to her. "Here."

The card looked like it had been drawn by a third grader with myopia, involving a stick figure Jonas and Belle, hugging on the cover. Belle was identifiable by scribbles of blonde hair, Jonas by a black streaks. 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' was scrawled across the top in a rainbow of colors. Inside, there was a message. Also written in crayon.

'So you're old now. A year older than you were before, which is pretty exciting! I wanted to tell you that not only are you one of my only real friends, you're one of my best. I know things have been rough lately for you, but I want you to know that if you ever need help, I'll be right here. And that you better eat lots of the birthday cake, because that's what birthdays are really about.

Inside the package was a t-shirt covered in drawings and sayings that amounted to movie spoilers for some of the most popular films of all time.
